Lit meme:
A C O M A F ladies || Nesta Archeron
She comes across as rigid and vicious, but I think it’s a wall. Against feeling. I think Nesta feels everything - sees too much; sees and feels it all. And she burns with it. Keeping that wall up helps from being overwhelmed, from caring too greatly

i love that dorian havilliard has been through hell 10x over and has the best character development but is consistently ignored by fans, bloomsbury, the characters, and the author

“I wonder if some part of me knew what was waiting for me. That I would never be a gentle grower of things, or someone who burned like fire—but that I would be quiet and enduring and as faceted as the night. That I would have beauty, for those who knew where to look, and if people didn’t bother to look, but to only fear it… Then I didn’t particularly care for them, anyway. I wonder if, even in my despair and hopelessness, I was never truly alone. I wonder if I was looking for this place—looking for you all.” “I was looking for you, too,” Rhys murmured.

IN DEFENSE OF LUCIEN
A lot of people are hating on my smol ginger muffin so we need to get something straight. Lucien was a victim too. Lucien was traumatized and brutalized under the mountain too. And he has just as much right as Feyre to be Totally Not Okay.
I’m not trying to excuse all of his actions, but I’m trying to put them into perspective since some people seem content to say “Well he’s clearly siding with Tamlin in all of this.” and “Lucien is such a bad friend for not helping her” etc.
Let’s do a rundown:
He was forced back into the presence of the person who carved out his eye with her fingernail
He was dragged before the court and was threatened with having his mind crushed by Rhys because Amarantha wanted to know Feyre’s name
He was forced to watch Feyre (his friend) face the wyrm and shouted down to her to save her life
For saving her he was whipped by his friend/High Lord
He was in the second trial right along with Feyre but could do nothing to save either of them
He had to watch Feyre be beaten/tortured and eventually killed which aside from being horrible on its own probably dragged up a shitload of bad memories about what his family did to his lover
A family which is also under the mountain with him and he likely had to interact with
And with all of that, Lucien still did more to help Feyre under the mountain than Tamlin did.
So yeah, Lucien is probably pretty fucked up over all of this. But he did still try to help Feyre in ways. He tried to talk to Tamlin for Feyre. He tried to get her more freedom. He took her to the village. He tried.
But he seems to be clinging to the ‘stability’ theory, possibly as his own way of coping. So yes, he didn’t save Feyre, but did she even once try to understand or help him? And she has no right to call him a coward for not doing enough for her when as far as we can tell she never really considers him. (I’m 100% not hating on Feyre, I’m just saying that her views of Lucien’s bevahiour are skewed by her own trauma and emotions.)
Not to mention, the way that Tamlin treats Lucien is also super, super icky. Lucien has absolutely no control in their friendship, and considering how long the two have been friends and Lucien’s dependence on Tamlin for safety (he’s certainly not gonna go back to Autumn if he breaks ties with Tamlin) He’s pretty much in a (platonic) abusive relationship with Tamlin too. I mean:
“Tamlin’s emerald eyes were feral as he snarled at Lucien, ‘Did I ask for your opinion?’ Those words, the look he gave Lucien and the way Lucien lowered his head…”
and
“’Don’t give me that look, Lucien’ Silence again. Then a vicious snarl, and a shudder of magic rocked the house. Tamlin’s voice had been low, deadly. ‘Do not push me on this.’ I didn’t want to know what was happening in that room, what he’d done to Lucien, what Lucien had even looked like to cause that pulse of power.”
So Lucien is being emotionally and possibly physically abused by his friend/High Lord who has complete control over his life. I’m not at all surprised that he didn’t defy Tamlin for Feyre. He didn’t even fight for himself.
Yes, yes, yes, Feyre deserved help. And we all wish Lucien had given her more. But her view on Lucien is skewed. Lucien is likely traumatized himself and is in an abusive friendship with a horrific power imbalance.

A Study in Grey: The Assassin’s Blade (5/5)
“Tell me your deepest secret,“ she said softly. After a long moment, he spoke. “The only secret I’ve borne my entire life is that I love you.” He gave her a slight smile. “It was the one thing I believed I’d go to the grave without voicing.” His eyes were so full of light that their loveliness almost stopped her heart.”
