Gale doesn't say a word for some time as he holds you, his arm wrapped around you, his hand tracing small circles on your shoulder as you stare blankly into space. If you cried, he would wipe away your tears. Your anger would be met with a patient sigh; maybe a cooked meal after the last uttered obscenity had been spilt. But right now, you're not sure how you feel. Numb, empty? What does it even matter? After all, nothing ever changes.

All you know is that next to him, in his arms, the shadows can't reach you. A brief respite from that which haunts you.

A tender kiss to your forehead, the scent of Blackstaff wine on his breath. The subtle tint of scarlet on those well-spoken lips. He only whispers that you are safe. There are no fake promises that everything will be okay. He, of all people, knows how the winds of fate twist and turn, sometimes bringing tranquility, other times chaos.
