Shhh he’s too busy yearning..

one of my go-to comfort thoughts when things are shitty is that first night Gale and Tav go to bed together after they lock in.

Yawning around the fire after dinner. A shared sleepy look; maybe he nuzzles her ear, a whispered, "Shall we?"

The others gently teasing them as they stand and say goodnight. The slow amble to his tent—their tent, now. Holding hands (his are clammy, he just can't help it), bumping shoulders.

The slow undressing, a little nervous because it's still new, still a little unreal. Making room for her boots beside his; clearing space for her pack; a hook for her coat right next to his robe.

The settling in. The getting comfortable. The configuration of limbs and hair and pillows and blankets. He frets, checks in too much, asks her seven times or more if she's comfortable, does she need anything: more pillow? More blanket? Less blanket? Are her feet cold—they feel cold, does she want spare socks? Doesn't quite know what to do with his hands, what's proper. Through it all, she leads him with gentle reassurance; he falls into it quickly.

Talking and kissing in the dark. Kissing and touching and feeling each other out with awed curiosity. Comparing bruises and scars and moles and birthmarks. Learning. Laughing—the giddy kind you can't rightly explain, that just comes spilling out unprompted from a well of raw, unmitigated happiness. He does this all night; by morning his cheeks hurt from smiling so much.

Every time he wakes he thinks he's dreaming. Has to touch her to make sure she's really there. Sits up and watches her face as she sleeps, how her mouth and brows twitch, listens to the cadence of her breathing. Lies back down, covers her pulse with his palm and soothes himself to sleep with its metronomic rhythm. She hugs his arm to her chest, curls around it, cat-like in her sleep. His heart can hardly handle it.

And how he relishes her realness—how she fills the void instead of creating one; how she warms his skin instead of leaving him cold. How easy it is to exist with her, how effortless. How welcome he is. How adored.

The spectre of what he has done, what he must do, looms always in his thoughts but for those few hours with her, it's just noise, a mosquito buzz in his ear.

He forgets his goddess.

He forgets the orb; forgets himself.

But he will never forget this for all his days.

The first night of the rest of his life.

drives me up a wall how woman abusers in Bg3 just aren’t taken seriously as abusers at all in the games or by a lot of people playing.

like people playing Gales routes aren’t like taking mystra actions seriously it’s like they see this as a love triangle or a petty cat fight and they get jealous over mystra and see it as like Gale holding onto a ex instead of like??? Dude who was clearly groomed struggling to have autonomy again after it this is just crazy to me part of it absolutely is just woman abusers not being taken seriously and the assumptions that “women would never be capable of hurting a man ever because the man automatically has power over her because he’s a man” which?? Not true?? Also fucking yikes!!!

Wanted to edit this and make it even more clear im not saying Gale is the only example of this I was just talking about Gales situation specifically here

When it comes to Gale’s two most popular hair styles—his canon hair style and the wonderful ‘wizardly up-do’ mod—I have to say I love them both, equally. however, anything where his grey streaks are enhanced is absolutely my favorite, by a lot, it’s not even close

BUT!

I have always loved the fact that his canon hairstyle has an impossible-to-achieve, not-quite-tucked-but-not-totally-loose, gravity-defying-swoop thing happening with his hair over his ears:

And sure, I get that it was almost certainly a design choice Larian made to easily show off Mystra’s earring…but I like to believe that it’s a combo of a little bit of vanity + a little bit of insecurity on Gale’s part, and he is deliberately using magic to get his hair to do that and to look that good.

And I love that, because it means Tav can be stinky, sweaty, covered in goo, surrounded by the rot of the Shadowlands, turned into a Mindflayer, etc—

—meanwhile, Gale is magicking up his hair and thinking: “My hair simply has to be perfect for Tav 🥰 Not a strand out of place 🥰 Tav is so RAVISHINGLY BEAUTIFUL/HANDSOME AT ALL TIMES I simply cannot present myself as anything less than a well-groomed gentleman 🥰”

Hello again everyone and I am sorry for the silence. It has been a month - literally and figuratively.

Let me make up for it with a small gesture towards your comfort. When spending time with Astarion after the tiefling party, I feel Gale would do his utmost to woo, wow and pamper his new boyfriend as much as the situation allows - and turn Astarion's whole seduction scheme on its fluffy head.
