Hey Everyone. I’m sorry if I’m beating a dead horse here, but I’m really needing something to keep my head up. I want to do some commissions, but I don’t think I’m getting any visibility. Tumblr nerfed my art tag awhile ago, and I don’t think I show up in search without a lot of finagling …. I need to earn money somehow, and doing art is really one of the only things I can do right now. Covid is hell, and I just want to do something to smile. Open Commissions!

I know that these are stressful times, especially for people to figure out where money is coming in from during mass quarantine.

For myself I am disabled and immunocompromised so I have a HARD lock down on myself staying home. I also cannot work a normal job, so I have been a freelance artist working from home for awhile now.

My commissions are honestly always open, but I’m just posting this as a boost so that if anyone is interested in hiring me for a commission they know that they can!

My commission rates start at $20 for a basic line art, and goes up from there for shading and or coloring. I have lots of examples of my art on my tumblr art tag and on my pixiv. So you can take a peek there if you want. I have them linked. I’ll do smut, nsfw, ocs, fanart, etc. You name it.

And if anyone wants to hire me for a larger more expensive project like a gif…… I can do that too. but it will cost a lot more than a commission, based on detail, length, and how many frames I do. It is animating after all. I’ll have to hear your idea and quote you a personal price for that.

20 ways to draw a more consistent character

1. Draw the most common appearance for your character. This is your comfort zone. (Color)

2. Draw your character from the front, the side, and the back. This is something called a ‘turn sheet’. It’s a little boring to do, but will be very helpful to you in the future to have on hand.

3. Draw your character from the front, the side, and the back, but have them in nothing but their undies at most. This is to show off how your character is built. Drawing nothing but a straight pant-leg with no structure under it is no way to learn! (Skip this if your character doesn’t wear clothes)

4. Draw your character at three different ages than they currently are. (Must be noticeably different. No ages: 4, 5, and 6, etc.) Color one of them.

5. BANG! Your character just heard a loud noise right behind them. Draw their reaction!

6. Draw a bird’s eye view of your character.

7. Draw your character feeling very happy. Show body language.

8. Draw your character feeling very angry. Ditto.

9. Draw your character feeling very sad. You know the drill.

10. Draw your character with a different body type than they usually have. This helps you map distinguishing features onto different ‘templates’.

11. Draw your character if they were the opposite gender.

12. Draw your character as a different species than they normally are.

13. Somebody has just handed your character a live duck. Draw their reaction. Keep them in character.

14. Mary Sue the HELL out of your character. (Due to being asked “What is Mary Sue?” several times, I have included a link to the evil that is Sue: [Click if you dare.]

15. Draw your character lifting something heavy. (no magic allowed!)

16. Draw your character in an opposite role than they appear in your story/continuity.

17. Draw your character doing something they enjoy.

18. Draw your character doing something they do NOT enjoy.

19. Draw your character in a dynamic pose that is not a profile shot (from the side).

20. Draw the most common appearance for your character. Color it. (Pssst! See if it improved from the first one you drew. I bet it did!)

What paper type would you recommend for prints from Catprint? Also, would you say that the light white gloss like the "standard" print paper that artists print on?

Kiriska: I personally use Catprint’s Light Card Stock Matte for prints, but will be gradually switching to Heavy Card Stock Gloss for my postcard-sized ones. 

I don’t really think there’s a “standard” paper because everyone has their own preferences and what’s available to them (especially if they’re self-printing), so just go with what you like. Catprint has a sample pack of papers they’ll send you for free, so I highly recommend getting that and feeling each of the papers and trying to decide from there.

Barring that, you can always just order a single print of a design on various paper stocks. Catprint has no minimum order, after all.
