i don’t think people understand how much of life is grief. not just people dying, but losing the version of yourself you thought you’d become. grieving the city you had to leave. the friends you lost not in argument, but in silence. the summer that will never come back. the feeling that maybe you peaked at 12 when you were reading books under the covers and believing in forever

Why you should write healthy marriages:
1. They aren’t done enough.
2. They help other people understand what a healthy relationship looks like.
3. Fights can last for weeks and still be part of a healthy marriage.
4. Stereotypes. Break all the marriage stereotypes.
5. Soft cute couple moments DON’T stop after marriage.
6. Marriage is completely independent of character arcs. Those two individuals with trauma will still be two individuals with trauma but with gold rings.
7. A healthy marriage is one where people understand that their partners have baggage/trauma/flaws, but love them even in rough patches.
8. It isn’t that healthy marriages aren’t compelling, it’s that people don’t know how to write marriages correctly.
9. Marriages being an end goal often perpetuates that women are trophies to be won.
10. Marriages being an end goal often perpetuates that someone’s “freedom” ends there. Bury this trope, please, I beg of you.

People will say I'm being mean, but man, I feel this stance so much.
So many people in fandoms seem unable to rationally assess the quality of the story, just because hey, the two hot characters interacted with each other, so it's automatically good!
So many characters get mischaracterized just because people to fit them into one of the stock relationship roles and/or make being gay their entire personality.
So many important details that the creators put into the work get lost in translation and rarely appreciated because if it's not shipping related, it's irrelevant.
So many people got attacked, because they didn't enjoy a ship, a character, or a story that the shippers liked so much just because of the shipping. I was a victim of this myself.
And it's frustrating, because if I like a piece of media, I want to talk about the various aspects of them - the writing, the character growth, the themes and symbolism, but often to find it I need to dig up through piles and piles of shipping content that I don't give half a shit about.
And I don't want to get attacked over expressing a dislike over something.
Please note though, this isn't to say every shipper ever is a bad person just for liking a ship, or even that they all act the same way. There sure are chill shippers out there! All I'm saying is that I don't vibe with this mentality, and wish that fandoms had more people that focused on different stuff - and that the toxic fraction of the shipping community is prevalent enough to push me away.
Enough said.
my #1 goal in writing is to make stories where there is no possible way to ship the characters without stretching it, so that you can actually interact with and understand the story through a lens that isn’t just shipping. please god you can engage with media in a way that isn’t primarily with the goal of shipping and if you won’t i will find a way to force you to
#mini rant#altair rants#and another important note: some will assume I was probably being The Asshole in the situation I've mentioned#and that I've said something mean to someone's face after they said they like something#but the truth is. that person wasn't even talking to me. they just oversaw me talking to someone else and got offended lol#and then I got banned from the discord server we were in. for stating I dislike a character they liked for the shipping. amazing

i see "men bad" jokes as very similar to suicide jokes. like making them every once in a while isn't the worst thing, but if you Keep making them constantly. it DOES shape how you start thinking and you WILL become a more unpleasant and bitter person and also make people around you uncomfortable. and sometimes you just gotta choose to not make or engage with certain jokes, even if they are amusing to you, because its just not who you wanna be
