a funny thing about having a Problematic Blorbo is that you'll periodically come across a post along the lines of "um let's not forget that [Blorbo] is a bad person..." listing their various crimes, and if you have a modicum of intellectual honesty you find yourself nodding along and saying yeah it's true... but it's the greyness of their character that makes them so compelling... At the same time though you have a little Saul Goodman in your ear going "your honor in their defense: who cares like omfgggg who caresssssss like come onnnnnn"

big fan of stories that, while undoubtedly being about the power of friendship, acknowledge that the power of incredible violence is just as important

I also appreciate the storytelling of Zenos taking the form of Shinryu again to chase after the WoL.

Because it has long been established that Midgardsormr flew from the Dragonstar to Etheirys. Dragon flew through the universe, passing multiple worlds, to get to one that still had abundant life. Because, at that point, most of the worlds were dead. And Midgardsormr could make that trip because dragons aetherical density is fucking staggering and their scales and eyes are full of it. That's why we have the whole Vrtra scales protecting against aetherical corruption blahdy blah.

So taking the form of the dragon allows Zenos to literally fly through space, across the known universe, to get to you. He didn't take the warp drive portal. That closed behind us. He had to do it the hard way. And man broke speed records, I can assure you.

Man also didn't have Hydaelyn's coordinate crystal. He just zeroed in on your soul and booked it.

Yes. Cut a man down because he's a coward. Call that shit out. Show no mercy. One-shot enemies on the battlefield. Cut through a magical barrier with your sheer might.

I will never forget running up to you, stabbing you with my lance, and then watching your health move exactly one pixel and me going, "Uh-oh," but trying to kill you anyway. Or you calling me pathetic, leading me to want a rematch. Immediately. Right now. You get back here, you bitch, I ain't through with you!

Complaining that you're cheating in the second fight, as if I don't descend onto other enemies like a tactical nuke from high orbit on the regular.

Those were the days. Come back, bestie. No one tests my reflexes as well as you.

im a blorbo apologist but also they did every bad thing they did and i will get mad if u ignore that. complexities

I think it's kind of funny that it's as he's given the title Viator that Zenos truly serves the people of Garlemald. He doesn't do it consciously, he couldn't care less about the outcome, but his actions in that time is what allows the people to finally be free and to start rebuilding a Garlemald that's more than a colonial empire.

He abdicates the throne, something no one else in his line would ever have done. Most would be frothing at the mouth to conquer it. And as he spends his time waiting for WoL, he traverses the wasteland, killing all the monsters he sees which effectively keeps the people there safe.

I just love that Zenos ends up saving his people and then the entire world against his will because he wants to play with the WoL. Just following WoL carrying the light leads him to create a better world. Zenos was one of Hydaelyn's children too in the end, despite having been the one to cause a lot of the suffering.

Anyway, he's a funny guy and I love everything about him.
