Social media video shows a United Airlines’ passenger being dragged from his seat and down the aisle of the Louisville-bound plane on his flight Sunday night. Apparently, United had intentionally overbooked the flight - a common practice - and asked the man to relinquish his seat to make room for crew members. According to the man, he is a doctor and refused the request because he had to be in Louisville for work. [ 558 more words ]

A pedestrian was struck by a duck boat in Boston on Sunday morning. The accident occurred on the corner of Newbury and Clarendon Streets around 11:30 a.m. Boston police said the pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries but was taken to Tufts Medical Center with some head trauma. The woman who was hit admitted that she was crossing the street against the crossing signal. [ 556 more words. ]

Uber made an announcement last Wednesday stating it has been recently testing new software that tracks and analyzes data from individual drivers in an attempt to increase safety for Massachusetts Uber users. The technology tracks things like sudden acceleration, braking and whether drivers are holding their phones when they drive. In 2013, around 4,735 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents in the United States. In other words, one traffic accident-related pedestrian death occurs every two hours. Furthermore, nearly 150,000 pedestrians reported to emergency rooms for treatment of non-fatal accident related injuries. Due to obvious reasons, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to get killed in a car crash compared to vehicle occupants. Owing to the high number of passenger injuries and fatalities, federal and state authorities have been making serious efforts to create awareness about pedestrian safety.
