Backlog sketchbook pages from the last two weeks (I’ve been sick, so I haven’t been on top of posting them.) First, a watercolor attempt I did at the cemetery after I picked up a Winsor & Newton Cotman Sketcher’s Box. I wish I hadn’t tried to be so true to life with the bushes, grass, and door, as I think the shadowing in shades of grey-purple turned out nice and I’d like to have seen the piece stick to that. As it is, I think it clashes somewhat
Then, figure studies from life that I’m really proud of.
Drawing from reference; Mushrooms and a Lucky Charms cupcake.
Finally, some random doodles. Bad chibis, my new phone case, and some sakura branches. Lavender Colerase pencil with Cotman watercolor over top. I really love how the limited color palette on this page turned out. 😍 Expect more of this color palette in the future.

Hey! I did three pages of figure studies from life yesterday, and I'm super proud of myself! I'm only going to share the last page, because it was the longest pose and I'm more proud of it. But they're figure studies, which are traditionally done from nude models, so I've marked it as 'Sensitive Content,' so people who don't want to see nudity don't have to. (And so no one reports me to Tumblr for posting nudity. I'm just an artist.) The pose is from behind, so no mamaries or genitals, but there is a BUTT. So, if you are uncomfortable with seeing a NAKED HUMAN BEING and their NAKED BUTT, you have been warned. Scroll on, friend. That said, I'm really proud of this butt. It isn't a perfect drawing, but it's very close to the reference.

Subversive Valentine's! I actually really like how this turned out. I picked up a Sakura Micron brush pen, yesterday, and it is WAY easier to control than my old one. I see much brush pen practice in my future. 😍

Studying noses. The top section is artist studies, where I've copied noses from various artist's work to understand the composition and the difference in styles. (Original artists credited beneath their art, includes gabbyd70, cameronmarkart, juicyink, and juditmallolart.) Then, the rest of the page is from reference photos, using the techniques I learned from the artist studies. I'm trying to get better at drawing faces, and I can't find any free resources on drawing parts of the face, just how to draw the head and place the features, so I'm trying this method instead. So far, I think it works pretty well. Obviously you don't just completely rip off someone's style, but if you're having trouble knowing where to even start drawing something, taking a look at how other people draw it can help. I'm probably going to do 100 each of noses, mouths, and eyes to help me figure out how to go about composing decent faces (there's 60 noses on this page, so I've finished a fair bit of those.) And then probably hands? 😰

Oh-No — Giri. A punny doodle from a while back. Unfortunately, this one got ruined when I tried to color it with alcohol-based markers (the lineart ink turned out to be water-based. :/ ) Oh, well. I've learned, and may attempt another, or a series of different ones on this theme.
