–Overview–

Alus’ motivations in battle are always to pacify, not to kill. His training has focused mainly on techniques to tire out his opponents or disarm them so that he may end combat peacefully and without bloodshed. If blood must be spilt, let them be crippled instead of dead. But things don’t always work out how he wishes, despite his grandest regrets..

He holds incredibly stubborn ideas of what ‘honor’ is when it comes to fighting. No tricks, no surprise attacks, no two-on-one, nothing. If Alus was to have his ideal way in war, he’d fight everyone on equal footing; bare-handed and bare of armor so that he may hurt himself while hurting others, knowing the pain that is war first-hand, and never forgetting the suffering which fighting incurs. It is only due to the overwhelming odds and numbers he must face and the number of people he must protect and save that he shields himself and others with tools and armor, usually that of the Paladin.

If Alus is not in the front leading the team, he is in the back healing the injured - and if that injured was fallen as an enemy, he does not care.

+ Alus’ upbringing as a street dancer has given him significant skills in quickness, flexibility, and freedom of movement.

+ Alus has developed his own personal style of martial arts that is a strange hybrid of techniques known in aikido and capoeira. He has no dojo, no master, nor does he officially belong to any martial art guild. Most of what he knows about hand-to-hand combat he’s developed just out of viewing others and asking random people for advice.

+ Alus does rigorous strength training daily and combat exercises, mainly techniques known for as gladiator sword+shield techniques.

–Any lasting combat injuries?–

[SPOILER] Alus has a plethora of scarring all over his body, everything from animal claw marks to burn marks to sword slashes and bullet holes and more. Luckily he has never suffered a permanently debilitating injury besides some surface numbness on his scar tissue and mild numbness in his left-hand fingers. Despite these ghastly scars, his hands and face are completely devoid of them.. It almost seems as if he’s keeping those scars underneath his clothes for a reason.

1. VASH THE STAMPEDE - Trigun

My biggest inspiration for Alus! Vash is an incredibly goofy showman, loud and rambunctious, always fun and cheerful. He’s also, strangely enough, one of the most tragic heroes ever written - he’s somewhat emotionally distant and ridiculously self sacrificial, and cares so deeply for humanity and the value of life that it can destroy him, yet strong enough to do it all without making anyone worry. He’s absolutely everything I want to write Alus to be.

2. Ruka Sakurai - Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side: 3rd Story

Full disclosure - I never really did his route all the way! He’s not really my type, I’ll be honest. Which makes it all the more ironic that he really reminds me of Alus! He tends to wear a lot of white and pastels, he loves the idea of being a superhero, and calls the protagonist ‘Princess’. BIG Alus vibes - though a bit more shady and raunchy? (More like Arc in that regard!) His mysterious and seemingly emotionally distant nature gives me big Alus vibes as well. It feels difficult to get close to him, yet he’s right there within reach all the time, you know? Very friendly. But... distant. Also. His bangs are exactly how I draw Alus’. 👀

3. Judge Harry T. Stone - Night Court

who wants to get fucking obscure. This is literally the character I referenced in terms of personality when I first created Alus - I wanted to reference a really good example of what a reasonably realistic modern hero would be, a literal saint-like person in terms of kindness and understanding. Harry is patient and friendly with just about everybody and loves to make light of dark situations. He befriends pretty much everybody he meets, especially criminals, and is just like... god, such a nice dude. I wish I knew him in real life. Also, this character made me discover Mel Tormé. One of Alus’ themes is his version of ‘April Showers’.

Café Nobilitea: Alus is the proprietor of a western-style teahouse with a distinct theme for elegance, royalty, and other-worldliness - His café is bright, full of flowers, and always playing soft kind-hearted piano music; the type of place a person could become lost in whence they’ve become tired of the grueling and dark outer world; a real heaven and haven. He often spends his free time there and enjoys sitting with his customers to get to know them.

Grand Company Militia: Alus is a very active member with the Eorzean grand companies in fighting against the Garlean empire and any other threats to the peace there might be upon the world. It’s very possible your character might have teamed up with him at some point in active duty.

The Prince on a White Horse: Alus patrols random fields often in order to keep the peace. Your character or someone your character knows might have been saved by the mysterious ‘Prince on a white horse’ while being attacked by bandits or beastmen, who oft leaves without giving his name.

A Fellow Warrior Of Light: Alus has helped out the Scions of the Seventh Dawn on occasion due to his status as a Warrior of Light; one of many.

Long-Term ANYTHING!: Friendships, rivalries, casual familiarities, romances, anything. Alus has lived a long life without any PC RP interactions, and I feel his writing suffers for it. I want someone who will be there for the long run and get to know him. I want stories to develop. I want Alus to grow because of other people.

Open-minded villains!: Alus has the patience of a saint and will befriend the nastiest of criminals no matter what. Alus will stop them from directly committing serious crimes he may be there to witness (murder, kidnapping, robbery, etc.), but will ultimately be very forgiving and calm when dealing with these topics. He wants to genuinely make a connection with people he doesn’t understand and strives his best to soften anybody’s heart, no matter how hard. His ultimate goal is to change their ways for the better through patience and understanding.

Platonic flirts!: Alus has a lot of love to give and happy to give it to nearly everyone and anyone. He throws around the words ‘I love you’ quite easily, and if he is especially crushing on someone, he will hold their hands and hug them openly despite his normal dislike of physical touch. He is most happy when he has a large circle of queerplatonic relationships, but will be absolutely exclusive to their ‘steady’ when he has made that romantic commitment.

Distant family members!: Alus knows very little of the Beauregards; his adoptive father and surnamesake did not speak of them much.
