I want to like Tumblr, but I have seen some concerning things since I have become active here and it has the hair on the back of my neck standing up.

So apparently, @humans, there is a member (at least one) of Tumblr staff that holds a position that classifies transgender people as sexually explicit just on the basis of them being transgender. It appears, to me as a new user, to be more targeted against transgender women than transgender men, but I see that both have been summarily blocked, innocent posts flagged as mature and either hidden or totally removed, and accounts lost because Tumblr staff decided they were in violation of the terms of service.

As a new user - and I say new as "newly active" because the prior dashboard had this site unusable - this concerns me because it appears to be totally arbitrary and targeted bigotry. Is this really the impression that you want to give to people coming to the site? And if it is, why haven't you explicitly spelled out in your terms of service that transgender people are not allowed to use this service? Blindsiding people with arbitrary, unwritten policies is well known in any professional environment to be an incorrect and user-hostile thing to do. I know as a social media manager if I applied the same kind of arbitrary standards to moderation, I would be fired in a heartbeat, and I work for the Department of Defense no less - not exactly a liberal bastion, to put it lightly.

Additionally, if there are unwritten policies that extend the terms of service, why are there none that address accounts designed around harassing and mass reporting of other accounts for the express purpose of getting them banned? Again, as a new user, seeing these accounts in action was one of my FIRST IMPRESSIONS of your website, @humans. Is that really the kind of face you want to show the world? Letting bigotry fly free while punishing innocent users because of prejudice?

Maybe there's work being done behind the scenes but I can't in good faith spend money here if my first impressions of this site are actually true. I'm not going to spend money to support a service that is user hostile and bigoted - and unless Tumblr does something openly to address that and takes a hard turn, at least based on my current impressions, I never will.
