The Forest
He walked in the work room, expecting to see Alador working, just like always.
This time, however, Darius saw him curled on the floor, against the corner, crying and shaking. His breath was quickened and there were fluids all over his face. His hair, that he was pulling on, was disheveled, or more accurately, a complete mess.
"Hey, Alador, I'm right here." Darius told him, putting a hand on his shoulder. His ears perked, showing he was listening. "It's Darius, I'm here for you." He sat on his knees on the floor, offering out his other hand to hold.
He inhaled a shaky breath, and then latched onto Darius, hugging with all of his might.
"You're doing well, keep breathing." He rubbed circles into his back soothingly. He didn't even care about all the germs and tears and snot getting on his outfit. He had to be there for Alador. "In... and out. Yeah, just like that. In and out."
The crying soon calmed down, and they just sat together, hugging, until Alador was ready to let go. He didn't exactly get off, more switched positions to rest in his lap and lean his head on his shoulder.
"Thank you."
"Mhm." He inhaled shakily, and Darius began to massage the back of his scalp with his fingers.
"I should get back to work."
"If you have a minute, why don't we go and talk about it?" Alador sighs, but allows him to hold him for another minute.
"Okay." Darius draws a spell circle on the floor, and they are encapsulated inside of abomination goo.
When the goo falls to the ground, they are in a forest together. It is covered in green grass, overlooking a lake. There was the sound of wind rustling the leaves of the treetops above, and birds chirping softly in the distance.
"You're gonna get all dirty."
"I have stain remover." He adjusts Alador to sit a little more comfortably in his lap. They listened to the noises for a little while. The air around them smelled like flowers and fresh water.
"Darius?"
"Hm?"
"Why here? You hate getting dirty."
"Is this place not of comfort to you?" He asked, and there was silence. "Exactly."
"Why do you keep- You're always there for me. Why? Aren't you mad at me?" Alador asks. Darius sighs.
He was sad, really. Upset that he chose Odalia over him, time and time again. He understood, of course. His parents were not easy to stand up to. Odalia is manipulative and abusive. He had kids that needed care. The logical reasons doesn't change his feelings, however.
"Why were you crying today? What happened?"
"She's trying to force our children to work for the company."
"That must be stressful."
"They're my kids." He says softly. "I want to protect them as long as I can. What we do is dangerous work, and I don't want them to get hurt."
"I understand." Darius grabs his hand, gently rubbing his thumb over it. "For now, let's take a break." Alador nods, and they sit in silence for a long while.
Eventually, they decide they are tired of sitting, and want to walk to the even more secluded part of the forest. They hold hands during the walk, a subtle comfort that leaves both of their hearts fluttering in their chests. Alador positioned their fingers to interlock, just like they did when they were kids.
"I miss you." The engineer said, sounding genuine and sad and tired.
"Ah, forbidden love, hm?" Darius teased, and Alador chuckled.
"This isn't a movie plot."
"It sure feels like it."
Alador moved closer to him, and Darius wrapped his arm around his shoulder. It was peaceful. There was no one around to bother them or catch them being corny.
"How come you don't like being dirty anymore?" Alador asks.
"Reminds me of you."
"What?"
"Being dirty," He inhaled, bracing himself for the teasing that would certainly come his way. "Reminds me of you."
"You sound like a lovesick teenager."
"I am an adult, thank you very much." Darius retorted. The engineer smiled.
"I'm sorry, for everything."
"I get it. I understand why everything happened. I'm not mad at you."
"That doesn't make sense." Alador grabbed his hand, messing with his glove.
"When have I ever been mad at you for more than a couple of days?"
"Still doesn't make sense." He looked up, seeing a butterfly flutter in front of their path. He looked at Darius, who nodded, removing his arm from around his shoulder.
When they were kids, he used to infodump about whatever bug he was following around. Ask questions, tell them the point of certain things on their bodies, how they're different and similar to witches, for example. As he grew, he must've gotten told to quiet down and shut up about the bugs.
"Alador?" Darius asked, unnerved by his silence. He stopped and rubbed his neck.
"Sorry, I got distracted."
"No, um..." He glanced at the bug. "What are the antennae for?"
"So, since they're so small, they get disoriented and lose their way easily. The antennae are kind of like the balance bone in our ears, except these guys have an exoskeleton." He kept talking, getting more and more excited and happy that Darius asked and would actually listen.
Eventually, the butterfly flitted off, into the sky, zooming somewhere far away. The sun was setting, at that point, casting long shadows and painting the clouds a beautiful shade of orange. They walked back to the lake together, sitting down on the ground next to the water, which became colorful due to the sky.
"Thank you, Darius." Alador said, holding his hand.
"I'd say today has been a pretty good day. What do you think?"
"Yes." There was silence for a moment. "May I kiss you?" Darius used his hand to turn his head towards him, and quickly pecked him on the lips. Alador wrapped his arms around his neck, and pulled him in for longer. Darius put one hand on his back, and one grabbed onto his hair.
Alador was the first to pull away, panting for breath. He touched their foreheads together.
"Odalia's gonna kill me."
"I'll kill her first." Alador smiles, and then kisses him again. Darius' hand drifts down to his hip.
"We're alone. Are you comfortable?" Alador asks, trailing kisses up his jaw, to his ear.
"No." Darius said simply, kissing his neck.
"Don't leave a mark, please." Alador requested, and Darius moved up to his jaw. Their lips met again, kissing deeply until they ran out of breath.
They looked into each other's eyes. Why did they ever break up? There was nothing but undying love for the other.
"I love you." Alador admits.
"I love you more." Darius smirks at him, before the engineer kisses it off his face.
The sun has already set, and they could see the stars through the treetops by the time they were done with their make out session.
"Don't ever leave me again, darling." Darius says.
"I won't, puddles."
"Promise?"
"Promise."

Fandom: The Owl House
Ship: Darius x Adrian or None
Characters: Darius, Adrian Graye, Hunter
Word count: 1,069
Warnings: Emperor Belos, tell me if I missed any!
AU: Adrian Graye isn't a total meanie, pre-canon (Hunter is 4 years old)
A/N: First fic!!! I hope you enjoy!
Heavily inspired from this fic:
Unique
Adrian heard a knock at his door, so he got up and opened it.
"Mr. Adrian?" He looked down and saw the little kid.
"Oh, hey. Hunter, right?"
"Can you make me look handsome?" Adrian blinked at him. He was like, 4.
"What?"
"Uncle says I'm ugly. My ear has a notch in it and there's a gap in my teeth and-"
"Come in." Adrian cuts him off, closing the door behind him, summoning his penstagram. "What else did he say about you?"
"He said my ears are too big and my cheek scar from when I was a baby and I fell, he said that's not making me handsome either, and that my hair is all wrong because of the floppy piece." Hunter tugged on it lightly. "Can you make me handsome?"
Adrian pressed send on his message to Darius.
"The Emperor called Hunter ugly. He's in here trying to get me to fix him."
Adrian poofed away penstagram and looked at Hunter.
"The Emperor is wrong."
"Mr. Adrian, Uncle can't be wrong-"
"Yes he can. And he's wrong on this. You are beautiful just the way you are."
"I dont wanna be beautiful, that's for girls! I wanna be a handsome boy."
"Okay, kid, listen. You are a handsome boy. The Emperor is wrong. You are a beautiful boy. You are a pretty boy."
"But Uncle says I'm not. Why are you lying to me, Mr. Adrian?"
"Okay, kid. Think about it like this. How many people have told you you're ugly?"
"Um... just Uncle."
"And how many people say the Emperor is wrong about that one?"
"Um... just you."
"I'm willing to bet that some of the other coven heads think you're handsome too. And if we coven heads agree that the Emperor is wrong, he's probably wrong."
"But he can't be wrong. I think you're wrong, Mr. Adrian-" Darius bursts into the room, picking up Hunter and kissing him gently all over his face. This makes the kid giggle and try to push him away.
"Mr. Dahariuhus! Stohop!" Hunter says, and Darius does as he's told.
"What happened?" He asks Adrian.
"He won't make me handsome!" Hunter points an accusatory finger.
"But you're already handsome. Are you trying to be more handsome than me?"
"I wanna be the handsome-est!" Hunter says. "So much more handsome than I am right now, because I'm sooooo ugly. Uncle said so!"
"No one calls my boy ugly and gets away with it."
"But Mr. Darius, I am ugly-"
"Perception." Adrian says. The boy turns to look at him.
"What's that?"
"Different people see things in different ways. Do you think you are ugly?"
"Well I must be, if Uncle told me so."
"Did you believe you were ugly before your uncle told you so?"
"No sir."
"Because your uncle sees you in a different way than we do. You see yourself different than your uncle. But no matter who sees you any way, you are always gonna be handsome. All that matters at the end of the day, is how you view yourself."
"But... why doesn't Uncle see me as handsome?"
"Your uncle's eyesight has obviously gotten worse. He should get his eyes checked." Adrian joked, glancing at Darius to make sure he was doing good.
He's not exactly good with kids, but he's doing his best to learn. From Darius, who had all but legally adopted this boy, and from Raine, who was a generally well-liked school teacher, Adrian was doing his best to learn and make up for, well, everything.
Darius nodded encouragingly, but kept Hunter protected in his arms.
"But seriously, kid. Here." Adrian opened a drawer on his bedside table and pulled out a bracelet with a fancy jewel on it. "May I put this on you?"
"An illusion stone?" Darius asked.
"I'm trying to teach a lesson, here." Hunter stuck out his hand, and Adrian put the bracelet on his wrist. "Come look." He points at the mirror. Darius sets down the boy, and he walks over to the mirror.
"I'm handsome now?" Hunter asks.
"This," Adrian knealt down next to him. "Is what the Emperor wants you to look like. No ear notch, no tooth gap, no cheek scratch. But then, what makes you unique?"
"Uni-key?" Hunter tilts his head, looking at the illusionist.
"What makes you different. What makes you special."
"But... I am special. Right?"
"Mhm. Inside and out. Which is why you don't need this." He tapped the bracelet. "Because your scar, and your notch, and your tooth gap, they make you special. Your personality makes you special. You are special. You don't need to hide behind an illusion, because that just hides how unique you truly are." Hunter slowly starts nodding.
"I think I get it now! I'm special because of the things that my uncle sees as ugly, right? He just doesn't see them the way everyone else does, you see them as uni-key and his per-session is different than ours. What he says is ugly, is actually just special-ness!" Adrian giggles at the silly words the kid made up, even if it was just because he was a kid and couldn't pronounce the true words correctly.
"Exactly correct." Hunter hugs the coven head as tight as he can. "Oh. Okay." Adrian slowly moves his hands to pat his back awkwardly.
"Thank you, Mr. Adrian." He says, releasing the hug, and then giving him his wrist with the illusion bracelet. "I don't want this anymore." The older man takes off the bracelet, and then the little kid runs out of the room.
"Well congratulations, Adrian." Darius says. He sighs.
"What?"
"You just taught him a life lesson." Adrian stands up and looks at him in confusion.
"I mean, that's not really a-"
"I must say, very hypocritical of you, given you hide under an illusion all day every day, until you fall asleep."
"Yeah, yeah. I get it." Adrian opens the drawer and puts the bracelet back inside. "But I'm Head Illusionist, Darius. What else am I supposed to do?"
"Fair. But, you are doing good with the kid." Adrian crosses his arms, face heating slightly in embarrassment.
His whole personality was being mean and sarcastic, he couldn't be good with kids. It went against his reputation, kids were never really around him. Being 'good with kids' was a complete 180 compared to his normal personality.
"Shut up."

A couple of notes:
I am a minor. Please don't send me anything NSFW.
I enjoy writing, and that will be my main theme. However, this is my blog, and I can do what I wish on it.
Constructive criticism is appreciated, and please tell me if I forget a warning on a post I make.
Asks remain open! I can do prompts for The Owl House, Sanders Sides, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and probably more!
Lastly, I hope you enjoy it here! Until next time!
