My favorite Annie Cresta moment is when she goes to a very recently bombed out war zone with Panem’s Most Wanted to get… a dress. A Dress! she wants a wedding dress! It’s Annie, a 17 year old and a Capitol prep team against the world. I love that Finnick didn’t go maybe he’s macho ninja training maybe he’s shaking back and forth in a fetal position waiting for her to get home unbombed I don’t care neither does she! mind you she’s in and out of reality mid ride and katniss is still like “damn she’s cooler than i thought” yeah kat me too

your life will improve vastly when you give yourself permission to hate something just bc you don’t like it. you don’t have to invent reasons why hating it is praxis. in fact “baselessly” hating shit is really really fun. open your heart to being a hater. for love

why do you think there’s a lack of starks in feastdance? it feels like they’re so sidelined
Thats's a good question. it’s important to remember that Feast and Dance are concurrent so it’s not as if we're missing chunks of a character's timeline they're sort of supposed to be considered one book (they were orginally) but yes Sansa only has 2 chapters, Bran has 3, Arya has 5 but Jon has 13 so he's the outlier (classic Snow). I think the answer is that this is a set up period for the Starks Proper. Bran is transitioning to the Three Eyed Raven, Sansa is transitioning to Alayne and Arya is transitioning to No One. all of this because their true story, in my opinion, is that they're Starks. they're the blood of Winterfell and they need to come home. that's the story we'll really stick our teeth into in Winds and see come to fruition in Dream. Jon, well he transitioned to dead so
#but no of course jon has much more to come but we've all (me) talked it to death so i'll spare you#starklings#asks

do u think jon is more like ned cat lyanna or rhaegar?
I think Jon is purposefully a study of Nature vs Nurture
he does his best to take after Ned and be a son his father wouldn't be ashamed to claim
Robb had become a hero king; if Jon was remembered at all, it would be as a turncloak, an oathbreaker, and a murderer. He was glad that Lord Eddard was not alive to see his shame. A Storm of Swords - Jon X
and when he takes command he tries his best to act as he was taught in Winterfell even against his own wants
"My lord, will you sup with us? Owen, shove over and make room for Jon." Jon wanted nothing more. No, he had to tell himself, those days are gone. The realization twisted in his belly like a knife. They had chosen him to rule. The Wall was his, and their lives were his as well. A lord may love the men that he commands, he could hear his lord father saying, but he cannot be a friend to them. One day he may need to sit in judgment on them, or send them forth to die. "Another day," the lord commander lied. A Dance With Dragons - Jon III
He even assuages some of his guilt over Ygritte by comparing himself to Ned
Many a night he lay with Ygritte warm beside him, wondering if his lord father hadfelt this confused about his mother, whoever she had been. Ygritte set the trap and Mance Rayder pushed me into it. A Storm of Swords - Jon V
but as we all know this is much more of a Rhaegar moment
For the first time in years, he found himself remembering Rhaegar Targaryen. He wondered if Rhaegar had frequented brothels; somehow he thought not. A Game of Thrones - Eddard IX
Grrm has confirmed that Rhaegar was in love with Lyanna but that doesn't mean he wouldn't have felt guilty stepping out on Elia and publicly humiliating her at the tourney. Like Jon, he's falling in love and probably believed this relationship was for the greater good. Jon shares a few things with Rhaegar without meeting him or learning about him
"But I am not certain it was in Rhaegar to be happy." Clash of Kings - Daenerys IV “Jon is smiling. A sad smile, still, but definitely a smile of sorts.” A Storm of Swords - Samwell IV
What we hear about Rhaegar and what we see from Jon in other people's povs is their shared melancholy
"Not sour, no, but... there was a melancholy to Prince Rhaegar, a sense..." The old man hesitated again. "Say it," she urged. "A sense...?" "...of doom. He was born in grief, my queen, and that shadow hung over him all his days." Clash of Kings - Daenerys IV
obviously Jon was born in similar way. Death everywhere, not just Lyanna and Rhaegar but the war surrounding them even if Jon doesn't know it yet and Grrm loves to play with stuff like that
Even though Rhaegar's seen as the warrior Jon seems to get his fierceness from his mother. The most obvious example being the Lyanna/Howland Jon/Sam dynamics
They shoved him down every time he tried to rise, and kicked him when he curled up on the ground. But then they heard a roar. 'That's my father's man you're kicking,' howled the she-wolf. [...] "The she-wolf laid into the squires with a tourney sword, scattering them all." A Storm of Swords - Bran II Halder lifted the sword for another blow. "Cut us off a ham!" Rast urged, laughing. Jon shook off Pyp's hand. "Halder, enough." Halder looked to Ser Alliser. [...] Thorne smiled. "The Bastard wishes to defend his lady love, so we shall make an exercise of it. Rat, Pimple, help our Stone Head here." Rast and Albett moved to join Halder. "Three of you ought to be sufficient to make Lady Piggy squeal. All you need do is get past the Bastard." "Stay behind me," Jon said to the fat boy. A Game of Thrones - Jon IV
"That evening there was to be a feast in Harrenhal, to mark the opening of the tourney, and the she-wolf insisted that the lad attend. He was of high birth, with as much a right to a place on the bench as any other man. She was not easy to refuse, this wolf maid, so he let the young pup find him garb suitable to a king's feast, and went up to the great castle. A Storm of Swords - Bran II A few nights later, at Jon's urging, he joined them for the evening meal, taking a place on the bench beside Halder. It was another fortnight before he found the nerve to join their talk, but in time he was laughing at Pyp's faces and teasing Grenn with the best of them. A Game of Thrones - Jon IV
When his fallen foes sought to ransom horse and armor, the Knight of the Laughing Tree spoke in a booming voice through his helm, saying, 'Teach your squires honor, that shall be ransom enough.' Once the defeated knights chastised their squires sharply, their horses and armor were returned. And so the little crannogman's prayer was answered... by the green men, or the old gods, or the children of the forest, who can say?" A Storm of Swords - Bran II "Listen to me," Jon said into the quiet, and he told them how it was going to be. Pyp backed him, as he'd known he would, but when Halder spoke up, it was a pleasant surprise. Grenn was anxious at the first, but Jon knew the words to move him. One by one the rest fell in line. Jon persuaded some, cajoled some, shamed the others, made threats where threats were required. At the end they had all agreed […] From that day forth, neither Rast nor any of the others would hurt Samwell Tarly. A Game of Thrones - Jon IV
This is the moment that Jon turns from the bratty 14 year old to a man whose story is largely about defending the weak or the marginalized. Bringing the Wildlings to safety and trying to humanize them to the Westerosi obviously but defending Satin from his own men, defending Shireen from Val etc. He's a walking bleeding heart Fox news would eat him alive.
CATELYN well let's talk about it. I don't need to give a backstory here we all know what it was so it's the most interesting thing in the series insane just how alike they grow to be
His mouth tightened. "And you see fit to loose the Kingslayer. You had no right." "I had a mother's right." A Storm of Swords - Catelyn I
“You wanted a way to save your little sister and still hold fast to the honor that means so much to you, to the vows you swore before your wooden god." She pointed with a pale finger. "There he stands, Lord Snow. Arya's deliverance.” A Dance with Dragons - Melisandre I
Cat gives up Jaime and Jon gives up Mance with the hope of saving the Stark girls. They put love of family over fear of enemies every time, something that can't be said about Robb when he's given the same opportunity so we know it's not an all around Stark family lesson.
"Robb." She stopped and held his arm. "I told you once to keep Theon Greyjoy close, and you did not listen. Listen now. Send this man away. I am not saying you must banish him. Find some task that requires a man of courage, some honorable duty, what it is matters not… but do not keep him near you." A Storm of Swords - Catelyn II
All of a man's crimes were wiped away when he took the black, and all of his allegiances as well, yet he found it hard to think of Janos Slynt as a brother. There is blood between us. This man helped slay my father and did his best to have me killed as well. "Lord Janos." Jon sheathed his sword. "I am giving you command of Greyguard." A Dance with Dragons - Jon II
again something Catelyn had to teach Robb but Jon learns on his own "friends close enemies closer" is Not! Helpful! when your enemies have swords get them out of there!!!
"Wars need not be fought until the last drop of blood." Even she could hear the desperation in her voice. "You would not be the first king to bend the knee, nor even the first Stark." […] Robb's face was cold. "Is that why you freed the Kingslayer? To make a peace with the Lannisters?" "I freed Jaime for Sansa's sake . . . and Arya's, if she still lives. You know that. But if I nurtured some hope of buying peace as well, was that so ill?" A Storm of Swords - Catelyn IV
"If it please m'lord, the lads were wondering. Will it be peace, m'lord? Or blood and iron?" "Peace," Jon Snow replied. "Three days hence, Tormund Giantsbane will lead his people through the Wall. As friends, not foes. Some may even swell our ranks, as brothers. Now back to your duties." A Dance with Dragons - Jon XI
Making peace with your enemies isn't weak, sometimes it's the smartest thing you can do in a war and it's what Jon and Catelyn both urge and yearn for as opposed to Robb and Ned who, both dislike it but, view successful combat as the key to peace.
“Sometimes she felt as though her heart had turned to stone.” A Game of Thrones - Catelyn VI
“Instead, he blamed Jon Snow and wondered when Jon's heart had turned to stone.” A Feast for Crows - Samwell III
and then of course they'll both resurrect from the dead to fulfill a greater purpose which thematically... i mean i cant even talk about it thank you George thank you so much
So who is Jon the most like? We have the most evidence for Cat but we also have her pov the longest so there's so much to play with. Ned is his greatest role model while Rhaegar and Lyanna will always symbolically be written into his story so flip a coin and smash these barbie dolls together however you see fit
#asks#i thought i finished this but then i remembered you asked me about catelyn#oh oh oh here i go#that one girl who really doesn't play about jon and catelyn#Jon Snow#anyone who read this before i edited the typos no you didn’t

Do you think Rhaegar would be disappointed Jon didn't have any Valyrian features?
No we don't really have any reason to believe that. Grrm answered a question about Rhaenys once:
Do you have any idea what Rhaenys and Aegon looked like? (Hair color, eye color, etc.) - Rhaenys looked more like a Martell, Aegon more a Targaryen.
and while there's a lot of debate in the fandom about Rhaegar's role as a father there's nothing in the text to suggest he treated Rhaenys differently than Aegon. it was Aerys that had the problem
“When Prince Rhaegar returned to the Red Keep to present his daughter to his own mother and father, Queen Rhaella embraced the babe warmly, but King Aerys refused to touch or hold the child and complained that she “smells Dornish.” A World of Ice and Fire - Aerys II
Awoiaf places a not insignificant amount of worth on which parent a child takes after but I think if Rhaegar had a problem with having a visibly Northern son it would have been foreshadowed by now with him taking issue with a visibly Dornish daughter

Do you have any Rhaegar wins AU fanfics!!! Or in general other asoiaf fics :D
Unfortunately my favorite thing about Rhaegar is that he's dead. hyped up his whole life just to die 10 minutes into his first battle but that's okay bc all of westeros has decided to keep glazing him for 16 years after that anyway. he's truly Him.
fics in general i made a list here!

I hope I'm not just a mutual to you, but someone you want to bring up in irl conversation so you have to awkwardly and cryptically say "my friend..." and refuse to elaborate on my origins or the origins of our friendships

what I love about catelyn’s characterization is that she isn’t everyone’s mother. she refuses to treat jon like one of her own. she doesn’t have any “motherly instincts” towards theon. even with brienne, she connects with her on more of a woman to woman level than through some mother-daughter dynamic. she never feels obligated to play the angelic “mother to all” figure.
but that’s the best part about her journey as a mother—it’s kind of messy. she has a favorite child, she’s forced to choose between her kids, she actively resents a motherless boy, she dislikes the hostage child living in her home. like yeah catelyn’s love for her children is beautiful and “pure” or whatever, but it also makes her cruel, selfish, impulsive, ruthless, even vengeful.
tbh catelyn’s sense of motherhood is just so unapologetically human, so refreshingly honest. she may be a mother, but there’s nothing romantic or intuitive or easy about it. catelyn stark loves her children, but it’s not that simple.
