Reminiscing With Ambiance

Ambiance was officially started in 1992, but I have been in the DJ entertainment industry for much longer than that. Here are some of the major changes that I have seen over the years:

*My first rig consisted of two (household) turntables, an old stereo amp, a used Numark mixer, second-hand speakers that stood on the floor, a wired microphone, and several crates of 45′s, albums and some 12 inch stuff. I was a “dj”. Wow!

*As I began to get busier, it was necessary to upgrade some equipment. I purchased a pair of Technics 1200′s- still probably the best turntables ever, in my opinion. Then a new 4 channel Gemini mixer and new Peavy speakers with stands were added. A dual cassette player, as well, soon followed (remember “cassingles”?). Looking like a (somewhat) true pro now.

*Bought some dance floor lighting soon after (uplighting wasn’t a thing yet).

*The new CD format revolutionized the industry a while later. This meant replacing your entire vinyl music library with cd’s- an expensive proposition, but so much more practical. Of course equipment had to change, as well. Initially, some went to “Walkman”s (seriously). I upgraded to a dual cd player (with a Walkman back-up, which I still own, but obviously don’t use). There were cd singles which were very cost effective, like its predecessor, the 45, but when they weren’t available, I would have to buy an entire cd for just one or two songs. The sound from this format was so much better, though. This trend lasted for several years.

*Then the digital age approached. I was determined to avoid this for as long as I possibly could. Running music from a laptop? NO WAY! Too much to go wrong. What if my system crashed? I’m not very tech savvy. The CD format suited me just fine. I fought it for long time, until people started to question me on my continued use of cd’s. “Hey”, I would say, “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”. I was being left in the dust. It quickly became obvious that I had to give in. Of course, it soon became the best decision I ever made and now I can’t imagine it any other way.

*Look at us now: uplighting, photo booths, wedding ceremonies, multiple systems, etc., etc., etc. Where will it go from here? Doesn’t matter. I’m committed to be there. Gotta stay on top of things!

Amazing wedding on 2-6-16 with Joanna and Craig at La Luna Banquet Hall in Bensalem. Great couple. Tons of fun. First dance was to “Is This Love” by Bob Marley. Guests filled the dance floor all night to the sounds of Beyonce, Pitbull, Bruno Mars, Notorious B.I.G., etc. Off to Fiji for their honeymoon. Ambiance would like to wish this awesome couple the very best.
