Tumblr media
Bob Goff is a man that I really look up to, and would consider to be panache.  He displays himself in a style and manner that shows confidence in himself, but also draws confidence out of others he’s around.  The image he gives off is simply beautifully genuine and humble, creating a panache persona.
In the image attached, he is surrounded by balloons, which honestly is kind of strange for a grown man to be featured in front of a bunch of colorful balloons, but Bob can pull it off.  Why? Because he owns it in his casual yet joyful manner!

How One Stupid Tweet Blew Up Justine Sacco’s Life
As a marketing communications major this is a question discussed quite frequently.  Social media’s purpose is to provide a platform for communicating with others and sharing curated or original content.  Therefore, I think that social media platforms such as Twitter are a positive force for democratic debate.  For example, Sacco’s tweet, among others, spread like a wildfire in a matter of hours.  This is a great tool in communicating with others across the nation and world.  However, with such a great opportunity to share with many people, comes a great responsibility and ownership.  The saying goes, “everything online is public,” which is so true and as citizens of the United States, we also get the honor to practice freedom of speech.  And here is the truth, that with great sacrifice of others, we get to practice freedom of speech - whether that is on social media or not, and with that we must own whatever we say so think before voicing opinion and be wise in what is put on the internet, and stay true to what you believe and who you are - while respecting others.

Another Purpose Of The Onion Article Concerning Obama
The main purpose of The Onion could certainly be argued that it is to entertain the audience, and that may be true, but another purpose in this particular article, “Obama Criticized For Living In Lavish Mansion While Most Americans Struggle To Make Ends Meet,” could also be to persuade.  In observing the article it is made obvious that the author is very critical towards the Obama and his lifestyle by the word choices made.  For example, in the very first sentence the theme for bashing the President is set by bringing to attention the poor economy, which had demanded citizens to tighten their belts, however Obama and his family continued to enjoy a lavish lifestyle free of any financial worry.  The article continues to bash on the president in picking a part pieces of how he lives care free in the white house - enjoying a bowing ally in the basement, avoiding cold walks outside to get to his office, and etc. The article also brings into discussion other commentators that side with the author, which ultimately help make his claim.  The whole article is quite controversial and is topic to be debated, which is also why it could be considered to be persuasive; most persuasive things are argue-mental.

Essay 3: Great Source
We Are Social provides great statistics regarding the number of people that use social media and so much more.  According to the 2019 report, 67% of the population has mobile devices, and 45% are active social media users and 42% are mobile social media users.  There has been a continuous growth in these statistics over the past few years and it is only expected to incline. This information will be very helpful in my introduction paragraph for essay three to show the amount of people social media affects.

Unit Three: “Successful Plagiarism 101″
Brooks Winchell’s purpose in writing, “Successful Plagiarism 101″ is to both inform and persuade the reader.  Brooks is persuasive in the deliverance of his story.  For example, using words such as horrendously plagiarism and blatant theft encourage the reader that plagiarism is bad and should not be conducted. The author is informative in explaining the process of plagiarism - copy-and-paste method, or changing every other word, etc. and also then explaining how to avoid it.  For example, Brooks suggests tips to the student, and ultimately the readers.  Some example Brooks gave included, unity and wholesomeness throughout the paper, citing a variety of different sources, and proper use of quotes.
Brooks was successful in informing the audience of plagiarism. However, in terms of persuasion, the author lacked unity.  For example, in the beginning of the article it appeared that plagiarism was bad and this was going to be the general stance throughout the article.  However towards the end, the author explains how to properly plagiarize.  I think this this is contradiction.

Research Paper: How Social Media Affects Teens
For Essay number three I have decided to research how social media is impacting adolescences.  The longer I have thought about it and the more research I have conducted on this topic, the more I find my heart hurting.  A recent article shared by Child Mind Institute, shared statistics of a study conducted that found how many people ages 14-24 felt they were affected by social media.  The results found that it increased depression, anxiety, and self-esteem.  The article also brings to attention the impact social media has had on communication, cyber bullying and imposer syndrome, stalking and the sense of being ignored, and lists ways to lower the risks of potential complications and tips parents can take action in doing in order to prevent negative impacts from social media on their children.

Possible Research Topics
The three possible research topics I have chosen are; how social media affects teen’s self-esteem, how teens perceive religion, and the impact of nonverbal communication in organizations. All three of these topics are something of interest to me as they involve passions of mine, concern my major or potential job, and have a bit of controversy. In addition to being an interest of mine and having some sort of connection to myself or are forward-looking, there is a lot of published research on all three of them.  As a marketing communications major, I feel that the topics concerning social media and the impact of nonverbal communications are relevant and would actually help me better develop my career.  The topic of how teens perceive religion is something that I find very interesting and may be viewed as controversial.  I look forward to doing the research on any of these topics, and will definitely have a tough time deciding which one to choose.

Tumblr Post Two: Week Four
Link to the article.
In the article, The End of Courtship,” the idea is shared that valuable, traditional dates and face-to-face interactions have been forgotten in today’s realm of dating.  Instead, people are hiding behind screens while communicating with their crush or partner and are neglecting all aspects to a relationship other than simply “hooking up.” Online dating websites have contributed to the laziness of men (and women) in putting time into getting to know a girl and takes away the unknown fun of the first date.  The amount of effort that goes into relationships or before the relationships form has greatly decreased in recent years - making it more selfish love than anything else.
There is a lot of truth in this article, especially for me.  I grew up in a home where the men were taught to treat ladies with respect and vice versa.  I learned the value that relationships have - both the good and bad relationships.  I also learned how to distinguish which relationships are good and which are bad and what to look for.  I learned not to settle for a man that is “good enough,” and that effort and energy must be present in any good relationship.  Lastly, I see the value in face-to-face interactions rather than communicating through a screen.  Call me old-fashioned, but the traditional courting this article talks about is what I strive to have.  I rather be nervous to go on my first date because I don’t know much about a man, rather than be bored going into it because I already know everything about him through their social media or texting over phone.  Like the article mentions, there is beauty in traditional, face-to-face dates because it gives us the opportunity to grow - both in who we are and in meeting someone.

Summary Of “The Cult of Overwork”
In the article, “The Cult Of Work,” the idea that working long hours is revealed to be damaging to the employees and also the businesses as the employees are not providing their full potential out of lack of recouping away from work.  Changes in how much time employees devote to work has changed drastically in the past thirty years.  For example, bank analysts for junior bankers and Wall Street Journal would agree to work fifteen-hour days in order to achieve more pay. On average people work fifty-five to sixty-five hours a week, this includes the highest and lowest paying jobs.
The theory that putting long hours in at work will get you more money may be true, but research shows that working such hours is damaging to one’s health.  It causes a person to lose sleep, feel emotions of anxiety and depression, and their clarity and judgement declines.  However, even some people attempt to get away from work, technology has made it seemingly are harder for people to achieve this.  Therefore, it seems that the idea if one works so many hours then their job will become worthwhile, becoming a ritual in their lives.

First Post: Autobiography
My name is Anna McCosh and it is my second year at UW-RF. I like to describe myself an ordinary girl that lives life to the fullest.
My background is simple. I was born June 24, 1999, in Mankato, Minnesota and raised in Granite Falls, Minnesota. I was homeschooled until ninth grade, and then I went to public school.  I truly enjoyed all of high school and was active in many organizations, but my favorites were FFA and the sports I played, specifically basketball, which I continue to play here at UW-RF.
Now I am loving college life and am active in different organizations here as well.  I served as an officer on the Agriculture Business and Marketing Society for the past two semesters.  I am a member of the UW-RF women’s basketball team and thoroughly enjoy it.  I have met great friends that I always enjoy being in the presence of.  My major is marketing communications and I hope to use it someday to market for a company and do public relations work for them.  My biggest passion is people – I love encouraging others and making them feel valued because everyone is so special and should feel valued.  This is me in a nutshell.  I am an open book and simple.
Below is a link to a music video that is very interesting and valuable to me.  I find great motivation and encouragement in it and use the energy get from it to then encourage others like I mentioned above.
