The other night you quoted Homer at me. Why? You forced us all to learn it as kids. In the original Greek, no less.

Do you have any headcanons about Snape that you care to share? :)
A few that I can remember now:
-  After the First War Snape decided to pay more attention to the Muggle world, mostly because it was a way to maintain a connection to Lily. In the same way he never sells his childhood house he also can never let go of his father’s heritage. So Snape knows a lot about muggle politics which he finds far more interesting than Wizard politics which are much more static.
-  Like the good logician he is, Snape is crazy good at Mathematics.
- He got Outstanding in Potions, DADA, Charms, Herbology and Arithmancy for his NEWTS and an E in Transfiguration.
- He loves Quidditch but is terrible at it. Ironically, he’s very good at football (Soccer). He’s a wonderful goalie because he is very fast and ridiculously unafraid of jumping towards a pile of gravel to stop a ball.
- Unironically loves Eric Cantona who once kicked a fan in the head.
- Snape really likes poetry which is proven by the poem we can suppose he wrote accompanying the PS challenge.
-  In 1983, Snape discovered This Be The Verse by Philip Larkin and he immediately became his favourite poet. (”They fuck you up, your mum and dad / They may not mean to, but they do. / They fill you with the faults they had / And add some extra, just for you”).
- Snape also loves John Milton mostly because of his favourite lines of Paradise Lost: “Long is the way / And hard, that out of Hell leads up to Light.”
- He prefers muggle alcohol. His favourite whiskey is Lagavulin, a preference he shares with McGonagall.
- He schooled himself into a Received Pronunciation but when he gets angry or nervous he reverts to the filthiest brummie accent.
- “Fuck me”, “fuck this”, fuck’s sake” – at least 20 times a day in his head, but he is very careful never to curse in public.
- Is often found in the kitchens at night for a biscuit and a cup of tea. The house elves are all quite fond of him.
- Snape only drinks black tea, surprisingly with milk and two sometimes three sugars. Dumbledore is secretly puzzled at this. McGonagall is just horrified.
- Apart from English, Snape speaks Latin, Scottish Gaelic and Modern Greek (and he can read Ancient Greek).
- The darkest humour you can possibly think of, Hozier was thinking of him when he wrote the line about the giggler at a funeral. In the same vein, Snape uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism although this is basically canon.
- Would never believe anyone who told him sincerely they liked him.

Neva. (Stress is on the last syllable)
Actually, sounds fine.
The other day I learned on Twitter about a girl that was nearlly named after the river on her town. So, reblog with what your name would be if it was based on the river that goes through your town (or the closest river)

Literally the best I’ve read today.
Personally, after having read everything D/V-related of your authorship, I considered the 2nd universe to be the case in terms of how I would’ve perceived their relationship should it be real. (Gods, I sound boring)
Anyway, in my head Downey has lost it during “ A year, out of order”, and Vetinari much, much later.
I think, it took less time for Downey to fall for Vetinari, but took more to reconcile; Vetinari is vice versa - for him it took much more time to untangle the nature of the ”Thing” they always had, but after that he reconciled more easily and made a move more quickly.
Now I wonder what was Downey’s realisation “Oh crap I love Dog-Botherer. I’m fucked. Time to keep it quiet for the rest of my life.” How did that go?
I mean for me it depends which universe I’m writing.
In the To-Morrow To-Morrow/Macbeth Universe both kind of realize it when they’re young during the play.
I headcanon that they’re basically a very weird, discreet Thing from circa the Macbeth play to when Vetinari goes on his Grand Sneer. While on the tour he half-hazardly writes but it peters off causing Downey great distress. He laments with Willis a lot, during this time.
When Vetinari returns he’s Gung Ho for Patricianship and Downey has also you know, moved on with his life so has a new person. Vetinari has a lot of Weird Feelings about this but doesn’t say anything. Anyway, he’s going for the Hot Seat.
Downey, also, spends a few years being (rightfully) angry at Vetinari for basically ghosting him. “We were a Thing for five years then you fucking ghosted me for a vampire who is 600 years older than you. What she saw in you is anyone’s guess, Dog-botherer. Which a 600 year old vampire is interested in a 25 year old is also anyone’s guess.” Not sure how Vetinari would recover from that in terms of having Downey trust him again.
That said, Feelings Doth Remain because life is like that. However, once the Hot seat is taken they do that stupid thing of never talking to each other. Because they’re very useful and mature.
Though, even when Downey is single he’s like “well, I can’t say anything because a) Hot Seat and b) I’m 100% sure he’s moved on and c) Considering how it fell apart the first time and that he’s never talked about it let alone apologized, pretty sure there’s too much baggage and d) Conflict of Interest as he’s patrician and I’m guild leader” etc. So it just kind of ... peters on that way.
I don’t know if they ever come to a not-bittersweet ending in that world.
-
In Thus Always/Conjure universe oh Downey figures it out at like 25/26/27 and then is MORTIFIED. He spends the next 25 years being DEEPLY EMBARRASSED about this development.
Downey’s Revelation is at a party and Vetinari has returned from the Grand Sneer, so he’s all very exotic and exciting for everyone. Downey is sulky about this. At some point in the night Downey is outside having a smoke and Vetinari joins him and asks for a fag. Downey gives him one. Vetinari goes to light it but can’t find his matches. Downey says, ‘No matter, I have mine.’ Leans in and lights Vetinari’s cigarette. As he is doing this he looks up so he and Vetinari are awkwardly staring at each other. It is in THAT MOMENT that the for one William A. Downey, assassin, the world moves.
And he promptly thinks: Oh fuck.
Two days later Ludo is all: You two should be flatmates! Cue - The Incident of the Murder Flat.
25 years later he relates this to Vetinari who says: I was wondering if you were going to kiss me that night. I assumed I misread the signs.
Downey throws his hands up and stalks off.
Anyway, they figure it out obviously and are old dumb gays together.
