kids these days are like “i need chat gpt to write an essay that would normally take 12 hours in 2” but back in my day i did that all the time by using a little technique called “writing some absolute bullshit.” and yet i still walked away with a better essay and more critical thinking skills than i would get if i used chatgpt. write a bad essay that you started on the day it was due, but write it yourself.

Hi Viktor, i hope this isn't too strange or melancholy, but how do you handle being lonely? i find myself okay with being alone, as in physically distant from others, but when the physical separation is compounded with emotional isolation or distance i find myself doing very poorly. like right now. i was wondering if you could impart some wisdom, as my current situation of lonliness doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon, and i am, to put it delicately, at my wits end.

Loneliness is not unfamiliar to me, even though I am no longer alone. It is a quiet companion and, perhaps, a lifelong one. I wonder if this is not the case for us all, to varying extents. I digress. Emotional isolation carries far more weight than physical distance, and I well understand its heaviness.

I have learned that this burden must first be acknowledged. You have taken this first step. Noting the given circumstances is essential before taking action. You are lonely and loneliness lies. It suggests you are forgotten, invisible, unworthy, and… alone. But you are none of these. You are human, experiencing a deeply human emotion.

Though connection may now seem distant, it can be breached with a simple word, a shared thought, a short message, even a query in an inbox. These fragile threads keep us tethered to one another. And when the silence is loudest, I find that creation helps connect me to the world around me. I play my fiddle, I sketch new prototypes, I repair Jayce’s clothes, I do something that reminds me I am a part of something greater, and can contribute to it.
