The gig was supposedly a straightforward one - just a security stint at some boss's joint, making sure no one entered or left without a valid pass, making sure no one interrupted whatever shit was happening in the "studio room" (not Scar's business to know) and making sure no one got handsy with the... actors.

The actors that Niska's buddy had on payroll looked rather a lot like streetwalkers and their johns. Was this just a flimsy front for a brothel operation? Figured. He'd thought that Valentino guy looked more like a pimp than a producer (whatever the fuck that was supposed to be.)

As weird as this gig was, at least it wasn't another turf tussle - all Scar really had to do here was stand around for a few hours, keep his mouth shut and look intimidating. Which, admittedly, he was quite good at doing. His lean, looming vastayan frame, the shimmer-purple tinge to his popping veins, and his dead-eyed glower had made him stand out enough in the line-up to get picked for this job.

Unfortunately, his unapproachable vibes didn't seem to deter one of the actors from approaching him anyway.

Scar narrowed his eyes in the actor's direction, and his ear twitched; his only immediate acknowledgement of being spoken to.

This guy(?) was... tall. Taller up close. Part of it was because he was in platform heels, but part of it was definitely just his legs being really fucking long.

Huh.

The chemthug had been hit on plenty of times. He'd never had to direct his attention upwards before, though. So this was what it was like being towered over, instead of the one doing the towering. He felt mildly uncomfortable.

Which was ridiculous, because the actor looked like he was built like a toothpick.

"...No coin," Scar told the actor in a flat rumble, after a suitably bemused pause. This curt and concise response had become his go-to - namely because it informed hustlers fishing for their next john that he was a waste of their time, and everyone else was usually so insulted by the implication that he thought they looked like a streetwalker that they abandoned the attempt at flirtation. Either way, it helped make the awakward interactions end quickly. (Or started a fight, but frankly fighting was easier than talking to strangers anyway.)

There is this thing I started to do a few days, where I think about the relationships and create categorized lists of the potential relationship or relationships between my OC & a character. It’s just to help get an idea of the interactions between the characters for the roleplay/story, then figure out the undecided and other relationships along the way.

Though I don't have any triggers, there are things I won't do with my OCs because it would truly be out of character for them.

I research a lot for my OCs, world building, and roleplaying, and I put much thought in various topics. But there is something in particular I have a personal experience with and it's something those who have also experienced or something similar, which is official adoption (legal adoption). For various other people, they have specially when there is no consent involved, no informed consent, and the lack of looking into alternatives (kinship (only if there is anyone alive, and safe for said person or people, to community/tribe (if you are familiar with ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act), you will understand what I mean), to guardianship; then fostering last); I only have experience with the lack of consent and informed consent. And there is also the issue of not being trauma informed (which is especially important when it comes to newborns and infants, and if the bio mother/parent had trauma (before, during the pregnancy (physical pain or injury, serious illness, war, natural disasters, terrorism, witnessing a death, rape, domestic abuse, incarceration within the criminal justice system, poverty, adoption trauma, medical trauma, family trauma, refugee trauma, traumatic grief, abuse and neglect (physical, sexual, emotional or psychological, religious, financial, digital, stalking, educational)—and those on the receiving end (and the causer) might not even recognize it was, is, or has been done at all or to a certain extent (even if the trauma suddenly hits them the worse they've experienced, though it could also be what leads them what realize they have trauma and what caused it); generational trauma comes to mind (humans being blank slates were never true, people just used to believe it was; but there are people who still believe this dangerous myth. "Stop it! That’s enough, okay? That’s enough!" (Vi)

Jinx didn’t recognise the sound that left her throat as she rounded on the enforcer with every bit of rage she deserved. There was NO WAY she was staying here! Just because Ekko was taking his sweet time making a decision didn’t mean everyone else had to play nice. Not when Miss High-And-Mighty had the information needed to destroy them all. Was she seriously the only one seeing the dangers here?! Hot-shot enforcer returns the gemstones and stomps on all the trencher trash terrorists: Case closed and a big juicy promotion! Sheesh. It was like everyone had forgotten all of a sudden that the only good enforcer was a dead one. 

"Stop it! That’s enough, okay? That’s enough!" 

A flash of incensed disbelief consumed Jinx’s face at Vi’s intervention before hardening into renewed anger. 

Ohhhhhh, so it’s like THAT, is it? 

Yeah. Figures. 

That was fine! Totally fine! Vi wasn’t the only one who’d changed sides. What was her deal, anyway? The sister she knew wasn’t one to shy away from a fight. She also wouldn’t have risked her neck for an enforcer. A cruel, humourless smirk found Vi as Jinx’s fingers lifted the barrel of her pistol. 

I’m stronger than you now. 

She had all her toys back again. All of them! Hand-delivered by Ekko for being a loyal Firelight. How was this for loyal? Blasting the enforcer’s brains out felt like a pretty good way to keep things safe ‘n sound. Can’t lead poison back to the bug-nest if you never leave, after all. 

And what about Vi? She was no match for her sweet baby sister’s shiny guns, chompers and new toys. Toys that worked real good. She’d even share! Hunger bled into the rigid lines of Jinx’s lips. What would Vi sound like, balled up and screaming on the floor with a stingy attached? 

“She started it!” Jinx snarled, blue eyes flashing past Vi in an attempt to see where the six-foot-coward had retreated to. Ohoho, she’d find her! Maybe some of Ekko’s bugs would help, too. None of them were wild on this dumb idea, anyway. Maybe they just needed someone brave enough to take the first swing. 

A frustrated growl simmered at the edge of Jinx’s breath as her feet wound around Vi, pressing for a break she could duck through. 

What’s wrong sis? 

Too scared to hit me? 

You can hit me. 

Go on.

Do it.

timeline : the pirate's life. (for one piece, arcane, fantasy)

sirena, a sea-fae, was captured by a wealthy fishmonger family that owns islands in the northeastern sea. she sings songs and stories of individualized prosperity, and the songs give their audience (culturally "high class" buyers) a temporary piece of her siren power. in the seas, she was a powerful shaman; a voice for the ocean. now, landlocked, she is a paper princess living in a castle of glass. perceived as an adopted daughter; in reality, they sell her songs to the highest bidder. the richest families in the archipelago, marines, and even pirates travel through the night and pay the price to hear her song. but sirena is not helpless. she divines songs of her freedom, in secret. she has ran away many times. and, each time, they endured to bring her back, terrified of losing their magical fortune. sirena is part of an ancient lineage of matriarchal shamans who emigrated from the ocean's depths (descendants of the vastayashai'rei). the natural bioluminescence of her body has a highly complex photonic-hypnotic ability which allows her to completely shapeshift into a "human" form. she can look and act like anyone, but her "adoptive family" forced her to appear small and feminine in order to put humans at ease and feel safe around a "sea witch". for her own safety as much as theirs. sirena is currently on the run, moving farther and farther away from her prison, hoping to make her way back to the sea... and her people, so that she may convince them not to drown the whole world as revenge.

Ekko made a point to blend in when he was out and about on the streets of the lanes. He had to make himself look more like those around him, like the addicts. It was the one time he let his veins show. However, he also used a bit of his abilities that his Vastaya blood granted him and changed his hair to a black color. His skin also took a darker tone than his natural, going with the dark lighting.

This was how he looked when he found someone on his way back home. A vastaya clearly, but she was different. The way her skin looked, it reminded him of what his looked like when he wasn't hiding it. His gloved hand ran along the surface of the scales on his ear. Different patterns but it was the same.

He looked around, to make sure none of Silco's men were around, and quickly rushed over to the stranger. "You shouldn't be out here, it's dangerous." He said, already trying to take her out of view. If someone stood out, they disappeared and he knew where to. To Singed. "You must not be from around here, otherwise you would know that."

Even being older than most people she walked by, Neeko was definitely not used to the concrete jungles, she still preferred the ones in Ixtal, made of trees and where she could run free with her Pakaa family and, of course, her dearest Nidalee. Yet, she knew she still had much to learn about the world outside the Oovi Kat island, and so here she was, looking around and taking mental notes of every shiny new thing her yellow eyes focused on.

She felt someone taking a hold of her arm and dragging her away from the busy streets, yellow eyes focused on the new face as she tilted her head slightly, antennas shifting as she inspected him. She sniffed the air a few times before opening a broad smile. "Friend! You're friend! Neeko smells good in you, also Neeko smells something familiar in you, friend smells like Neeko's old friends..." She nods and looks up at him, eyes finally catching a glimpse of scales, a bit different but still similar to her own, and she lights up almost immediately. "Friend is Oovi Kat! Friend is like Neeko! Friend is family!" Neeko didn't even give the poor boy a moment to understand what it meant before she climbed over on his back, tail swishing as she found her balance perched up onto his back, examining his scales closer.

It was strange to see Ekko carrying blame, as though any of the multitude of catastrophes that had shaped their lives were on him. It was challenging enough weighing up all of the differences between her memory of the nine year old boy and the person standing in front of her now. Maybe Ekko was measuring all the differences in his memories against her too. 

The topic of Powder - or Jinx, as she preferred- was a difficult one for everyone. Whatever Silco had done to get inside of Powder’s head had left its mark as some cruel final jab towards Vander. But to imagine Powder falling for such a monster…to imagine her choosing him over her best friend? She couldn’t comprehend it. Maybe one day Powder would be able to shed some light on it all, but right now it felt like Silco along with other sensitive topics were off the table. Vi could live with that. It didn’t matter now. Powder was alive. Silco was gone. They were back together. That was what mattered. 

“Maybe not back then.” Vi mused, resting her elbows on the balcony railings to watch the hum of life below. 

Ekko had been a kid back then. Sure, he was competent. He’d ran with them before, taken solo jobs up top and even gotten them out of a fair share of bad run-ins, but nobody had been a match for Silco that day. Not as a group, and certainly not alone. 

“...Half the undercity told me she was dead before you picked us up.” The words felt like a confession. She hadn’t been able to articulate to Caitlyn the way her blood chilled each time someone delivered the news. It felt like a gut-punch. They’d searched for days, tearing the streets apart, the same answer chipping away at something within Vi’s head, like a dam about to break. Losing Powder was a thought she hadn’t been able to entertain for a moment. All those years of fighting, sleepless nights, of planning and trying to figure out the best way to apologise couldn’t be for nothing. 

The weight of Vander’s words clung more heavily than ever to Vi’s shoulders in those days, entrenching every moment in shame.  

“You’re the reason she’s still here, not the reason she was there.”

There was a lot of work to be done, but the urgency of finding both Powder and Ekko was gone. It was easier to be calm now. Steadier. 

“I owe that to you, Little Man.”
