If you were raised in a climate of trauma and depression, be careful not to internalize your symptoms as personality traits. For most of my life, I thought that I was an angry and sad person who was introverted and independent. Wrong! I was angry because of my circumstances, sad because of my circumstances, isolated from love, and forced to be independent because I was parentified at a young age and it was a method of survival. It turns out I'm actually extroverted, clingy, joyful, and mellow when I'm not in a hostile environment. I don't mean to invalidate where you are on your journey, but you may not even know your true self yet if you've only known trauma.

it can be really tough when you are progressing through a difficult lesson in your life and you might already know that you need to accept a certain hard pill logically but there's a little child inside that screams "this is so unfair! everything is unfair!! i hate this i hate this i don't want to go through all this please just make this stop!" that makes it unbearable to move through. it is exhausting my love, and i hope you give grace and warmth to all the parts of you which is fighting for your survival through this difficulty. every emotion, feeling and frustration is here to make you a better person—maybe that's the last thing you want to hear right now when the weight of everything seems unbearable. seek out comfort—both from your support system and within yourself. rock the little upset child to sleep slowly, everything will be alright. the sun is so bright on the other side my love. i hope you choose to keep going ♡

some of you need to understand that some mentally ill people will be mean or violent or abusive or act irrationally or out of the ordinary. It’s not ableist or anti recovery to acknowledge that some people are like that. If anything, it’s ableist to not acknowledge it considering a large amount of mentally ill people are not the people pleasing, sad and small infantilising idea you have of us. Anxiety and depression is not the default mental illness. It’s not *the* mental illness. Funny posts, memes, jokes and so on about mental illness is *not* mental illness. Mental illness is scary and mean and harsh and competitive and it *can* make you a bad person sometimes. That’s just the horrible, awful reality of it. No amount of funny posts or infographics can change that. There’s still hope for the angry, violent, mean and maybe even abusive people. There’s always hope. But hope begins with acknowledgment
