i was expecting the graphic novel to be like a basic episode, but as a comic, just with Vlad and Dan shoehorned in as phandom pleasers and nothing else, but instead it's like. 'You remember every episode from 15 years ago, right? good because we're picking up right were we left off and we're barely going to explain anything or introduce the characters to any potential new readers. also obsessions are canon now and we retconned the finale ✌️ have fun'

Danny Phantom is the only fandom I’m really invested in, so I’m a little ignorant, but are there any other fandoms like this?

In my mind the Danny Phantom fandom is unique for a few reasons:

1) Fans thoroughly reject parts of the canon and the creator but still love the core material. They don’t just criticize the later seasons like Game of Thrones fans do, it’s common to literally reject pieces of canon completely. The rejection of canon actually fuels creativity.

2) Danny Phantom is a three season children’s cartoon from 2004. But the fandom is still active. There wasn’t a reboot besides the comic, so the fandom survives purely through fan led reinterpretation. Not marketing. Literally I think some fans have never even watched the show. Danny Phantom is one of the most popular categories on FanFiction.net, ahead of mainstream IPs with bigger budgets like Avatar and Harry Potter

3) The reboot, A Glitch in Time, is written by a fan. Not the creator, and not even one of the original writers. I don’t know of any other IPs where this happened and the fandom actively cheered for it. Like, begged for the creator to not be involved. I know some fans for other shows might want that, but I’ve never seen the network actually greenlight it.

4) The fandom itself is very self aware and tight knit. They have their own recurring jokes, fan made episodes, collaborative projects, events. Maybe other fandoms like Firefly or Homestuck are similar. But Danny Phantom again is based on a mainstream children’s show. The fandom itself is pretty subcultural

5) the fandom survived through various platforms. Usually a fandom dies with a platform but this fandom existed on livejournal and fan fiction in the early 2000s, tumblr in the 2010s, and now TikTok and Ao3

Is there any other fandom like this? I think it’s unique, but again, I’m a Danny Phantom girlie, so maybe there’s some underground Jimmy Neutron or My life as a teenage robot fandom that I’m not aware of lol. Even shows like Teen Titans, She-Ra, Clone Wars don’t seem to match it.

What i actually wanted to see from Danny phantom season three:

Basically I just want the Marmellian plan so unfortunately even the fun episodes have to be scrapped. They can come back later in S4 or Butch’s YouTube channel.

I'd keep Eye for an Eye and put something like D-stabilized somewhere in the middle of the season, then have a finale with Dan.

In the early episodes Vlad builds distrust in ghosts through smear campaigns and framing. Jazz, Sam, and Tucker would have to feel challenged in some way about helping Danny. There could be an episode specifically focused on Sam and they could have fleshed out Danny and Sam's relationship there without the stalking or fighting or weird blushing.

Valerie is officially backed by Mayor Masters for the first half of the season, something like D-stabilized happens and she and Danielle join team Phantom.

Throughout the season there would be some looming threat of Vlad continuing to experiment with clones and somehow that leads to Dan. Maybe Vlad successfully creates the perfect clone who people now see is associated with Vlad. Maybe that clone becomes evil because it was born into a world where everyone hates him, then becomes second version of Dan by fusing with Vlad. Vlad's human half is either killed or goes to jail later idk. Then Danny would have to fight Dan, redeem himself, Vlad's ghost half dies with the clone, and everyone lives happily ever after and I won't have to sit in my bed angry Lisa Simpson style for years being pissed off that Butch sabotaged his own show

Butch Hartman gets a lot of (justified) morally outraged critiques like for tracing fan art, supporting autism speaks, evangelical proselytizing, etc. But if I’m being completely honest I personally just don’t want him anywhere near the Danny phantom IP because he ruined the shows momentum by prioritizing marketability and zany ideas, pushed out the writers who cared about building a good story, then took all the credit for a show that was propped up by the talent around him.

Then he complains about the same thing happening to Star Wars, when George Lucas got full control and was surrounded by yes men.
