when writing a relationship it is important to know what each character ultimately wants, or needs, because that will inform their reactions to events
also important to remember that those reactions can be contradicted by prior negative experiences and that in and of itself will generate inner conflict for the character, wether this is exteriorized blatantly or not.
it is a good way to create tension if introduced with subtlety

When building up tension on a story, it is important to maintain the limited perception of your character while also giving the reader enough context clues to figure out what your character is missing, or unable to notice.
i.e. -having your character notice a change in expression on another but disregard it completely.
-making a description of something or someone clear enough that it is noticeable to have some meaning, but also would fall into something your character would think about casually.
Always making sure that the bare minimum information is there for someone to be able to realize something on their own without outright telling it, or having the character become frustrating for not realizing it.

NOTICE: As more and more fanfic writers are using generative AI for their works (you uncreative dweebs), I hereby swear on everything I hold dear that I have not and will NEVER use generative AI in ANY of my written work. Everything I post will be organically and creatively my own.

"If you use em dash in your works, it makes them look AI generated. No real human uses em dash."
Imaging thinking actual human writers are Not Real because they use... professional writing in their works.
Imagine thinking millions of people who have been using em dash way before AI becomes a thing are all robots.

Give me a fanfiction trope and I’ll grade it:
A: Love it. Spend my time combing AO3 for it.
B: Like it. Not one of my bigger cravings, but it can scratch a certain itch if I’m in the right mood.
C: Neutral. A good author might be able to sell it, but a bad one will kill it deader than dead.
D: Not my favorite. I avoid it if I can, but it won’t necessarily put me off reading something.
F: Hate it. Will immediately make me nope out of a fic.

few things more humbling than the realization that you really do write the same fic(s) over and over again

does anyone know if there is a fic or something where Lin Qiushi dies, and what happens to Ruan Nanzhu after?

i have general questions about comments on fics. Is it customary for authors to answer comments? Some never do, is that because they want their comment count to remain true? I find it confusing how there can be such a big difference. Is it different in different fandoms maybe?
Hi! Thanks for asking!
Some do and some don’t, it really varies from person-to-person!

Hey everyone, I know it's going to be a busy day for a lot of people, but Google enrolled everyone over 18 into their AI program automatically.
If you have a google account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off.
Then you need to go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini and turn off all Gemini activity tracking. You do have to do them in that order to make sure it works.
Honestly, I'm not sure how long this will last, but this should keep Gemini off your projects for a bit.
I saw this over on bluesky and figured it would be good to spread on here. It only takes a few minutes to do.

One of the great things about fandom is that sooner or later you will think to yourself: I would never write/read x kind of story, I would never ship x kind of pairing, I would never do whatever fandom thing, and then, if you stick around long enough, you will 100% become a clown of your own making. It’s inevitable and I love it.
