Agreed. Back before the internet, I was following the novel Dune in serialization in Analog magazine. Part one, Dune World, was published over three months, and I waited 10 months before part 2, The Prophet of Dune, was published. Of course, I didn't know that there was going to be a part 2 at the time. I must say that I waited impatiently for each new installment.
I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but more people should read incomplete/unfinished/in-progress fanfics.
I've noticed this huge trend where creators on tiktok and tumblr who will be explaining how to use Archive Of Our Own to new users and they always say "and make sure to scroll down and click completed only" or how people will go out of their way to mention they only read completed fics 'because they were traumatized when they forgot to check the dates and didn't realize this fic hadn't been updated since 2012'.
The thing is - I think by not engaging with and/or actively avoiding writer's WIPs readers are potentially adding to the aggregate of abandoned works. Now this obviously isn't the case for all abandoned fics, anything from major life events, to loss of interest, to getting busy can be a reason for a fic getting abandoned - but at least on some level I just know that writers are quitting while they're ahead when they aren't garnering any response or feedback because reading WIPs has become unpopular. If you're worried about reading something that hasn't been updated since 2012 then you can use the date updated function to sort out old fics.
Anyways, support your favorite fanfic writers by engaging with their WIPs.

Bear: To endure or carry (as in bear any burden). Or a large omnivorous mammal.
Bare: Uncovered (naked) or minimum (as in bare necessities).
So "grin and bear it" would mean to endure something with grace. If you grin and bare it, it could be fun or embarrassing, depending on the situation.
tricky words I always see misspelled in fics: a guide
Viscous/vicious – Viscous is generally used to describe the consistency of blood or other thick liquids. Vicious is used to describe something or someone who is violent.
Piqued/Peaked/Peeked – To pique someone’s interest is to catch or tease their attention. When something peaks, it reaches its total height or intensity. To peek (at) something is to look briefly, or glance.
Discrete/Discreet – this is a tough one. Discrete means to be separate, or distinct, i.e., two discrete theories. Conversely, when someone is discreet, they are being secretive or cautious to avoid attention.
Segue/Segway – one is a transition between things, the other is a thing you can ride at the park and definitely fall off of.
Conscious/Conscience/Conscientious – to be conscious is to be awake, i.e., not unconscious, or to be aware of something. Your conscience is the little voice in your head telling you not to eat the entire pint of ice cream. Finally, to be conscientious is to be good, to do things thoroughly, to be ruled by an inner moral code.
Hope this helped! Please add more if you think of them!

That is an amazing thunderhead. As a kid travelling with family in Texas, we watched an approaching storm for miles. The rain was so heavy when we finally were in it that we had to pull off the road. The wipers couldn't handle it, and visibility ended at the front of the car!

OK, these letter out signs are hilarious. And I've actually seen a hell station years ago. Infernal gasoline, run by the devil himself!

Then I must be a low probability event attractor, because I've encountered the Wienermobile several times!
They don’t tell you this but in the United States there is an extremely low chance to encounter a vehicle shaped like a hotdog
