aphrodite cabin headcanons

a/n: i know that the cabins are in order based on where each olympian sits on the olympian council but i find it funny that aphrodite is #10. get it? because she's a 10. i'll stop. 😔
children of aphrodite
• they're the most diverse cabin at camp.
• they're kind of like a cult.
• mean girls quotes. all day. everyday.
• they have loads of spare clothes that they lend out to new campers that arrive with nothing.
• they actually wear the least amount of makeup out of all the campers because they have the gift of natural beauty.
• they help kids work out their sexualities and make sure they're confident and okay with them.
• they are physically incapable of misgendering people.
• trans aphrodite kids can change their appearance at will.
• they know the basics of every romance language.
• they do couples counseling.
• camp matchmakers.
• they're the camp hairdressers and they also run a secret piercing parlor.
• sucker for romance movies.
• they have the most creative ways of swearing ("you impractical second hand prada bag").
• aphrodite gives them charmed bags that can hold ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.
• they're particularly fond of sweet foods. like they need a little sweet treat after every meal.
• they keep a running list of the best make out and date spots at camp.
• they're always that person that has a tampon or pad if you need one.
• they're the type of people that will chop off their hair if it doesn't match their outfit.
• the cabin hosts regular beauty and self-care nights, where campers can relax and pamper themselves with facials, manicures, and other treatments.
• they are huge advocates of self love and self care. they do everything in their power to teach every single camper to love themselves.
• they are the most lgbtqia+ supportive cabin, as they are also very diverse in the terms of sexuality: imagine a ton of pansexuals, demisexuals, bisexuals, flirty gays/lesbians, a few aro/ace chilling in the background- everyone is represented.

cabin exterior
• instead of being a life size barbie dreamhouse like it's described in the books, its very subtle, and natural, and soft.
• the outside is pink, but such a pale pink that it looks white unless the right light is hitting it.
• there is natural ivy growing on each wall and onto the roof. It wraps around shutters and the frames of the doors.
• it almost looks like a small manor and like it should have been built on some far off hill that is surrounded by flower fields for miles.

cabin interior
• the inside is very warm and welcoming.
• there are so many pictures, posters, mirrors, and shelves that you can barely see the paint.
• lowkey feels like you're walking into a bath & body works.
• their cabin is filled with scented candles.
• pop music constantly plays in the background and everything in there is expensive as hell.
• their beds are tailored to each camper's exact taste. so it's a bizarre mix of furniture from a fluffy bed with 16 pillows to a bed that looks like it belongs in a prison.
• aphrodite charmed it so that it is bigger on the inside.
• there is a walk-in, expanding, closet where you put old clothes you don't want anymore and other siblings can come and get some new clothes if they need them (other campers are welcome whenever invited. it happens more often than it should).
cabin traditions
• at the beginning of every summer, everyone (if they feel comfortable) gets in front of the rest of the cabin and gives names, pronouns, and sexuality.
• there is an item from every sibling that has lived in the cabin somewhere on the walls. all of the pictures, posters, things on the shelves are placed there by a past sibling.
• there's a hook where, if your jewelry breaks in the cabin, you tie it off and hang it there. there is a necklace made of leather with a hundred year old stone heart on the hook.

OK, LET ME SHARE MY OPINION ON THIS.
Yes, it did really start as codependency, Yes, it really is kind of unhealthy, However, at this point in the mangá, it's pretty much A CRIME saying they're not in love and they just need eachother for their own traumatic reasons.
REASON NUMBER ONE

THAT'S LITERALLY NOT HIKARU TO HIM ANYMORE TRY TO READ.
All of the story on this comic is about Yoshiki realizing he is a monster, and then realizing he is deeply in love with this monster in a way something so superficial like "his crush is in love with him now" does NOT explain it anymore.
This is NOT Hikaru, he stabilishes many times that as much as he needs him in his life, the more he looks to him, the more he understands both are completely different.
REASON NUMBER TWO

He cares for the monster at the point he asks him to run away with him so they can both be themselves in their own weird ways
Now putting all the metaphors aside, that quite literally means he wants to spend the rest of his with this thing, regardless of how much he thinks he might be selfish or blame himself for treating it like something human, they share a precious relationship
STOP THIS MADNESS LET HIM BE HAPPY WITH HIS MONSTER BOYFRIEND

Hikaru and Yoshiki are a perfect example of toxic codependency. Yoshiki needs Hikaru to withstand the grief of losing his best friend/unrequited love and Hikaru just needs Yoshiki because he literally became his reason to live. As much as I love them, they are not good for eachother.

Up until here anyways. "Hikaru" realizes he is only harming Yoshiki by staying with him. Yoshiki is still grieving and so that's why he reacts like this, and "hikaru" realizes this. He says that he wants Yoshiki to properly move on from Hikaru's death because what they have ISNT healthy. Long story short, this story is so well written.

Hi overthinkers :D
After a really messy gap of three years, I finally red "Boy meets Maria" and I'll never be able to express how much this short story made my heart ache and melt. I can't believe I took so long because it's pure genius how it's written, and it's so SO sad we won't get anymore of it.
Anyways, let me yap a bit about it because I got SO MUCH to say, especially towards Arima's gender. I'll try to be as respectful as I can and use they/them referring to them regardless of the conclusion I take.
⚘️ spoilers ahead ⚘️

Both of the main characters are SO WELL WRITTEN in a way I've rarely seen in media these days!
"Boy meets maria" is a comic novel that makes us question so many things we have barely thought about in modern society, being them specially gender roles and norms, or how abuse comes in all sizes, shapes and colors.
Let's start with Taiga!
In a way, Taiga is the "least complex" character in this mangá. His concept is simple; he lost his mom when he was very young, his dad was irresponsible taking care of a child and drowning on his drinking addiction, and after growing up with all that, Taiga decides he wants to be a hero.
The meaning of a hero to Taiga is, simply explained, to be this great GREAT person. He wants to be a famous actor, succeed in life, and have this beautiful girlfriend to "save".
To be short, Taiga decides he doesn't want to be like his dad. His bright personality is basically his way of getting better, of being happy, and most important of all, of helping people.
I guess we can say Taiga is a very deeply conflicted character. looking for his way to the top on theater, I'd say this is him leaving his past behind and looking ou to show the world he is worth something, looking for something that may bring back to him the feeling of control contrasting how much he couldn't help but just watch his mother slowly die, and how weak he felt not knowing she was already being hurt by his father all along.
Let's say that the reason he's looking for a perfect girl for him to act like this perfect hero also has to do with the passing of his mom and the absence of his father, because to him, this is one unconscious second chance of treating a girl right and having a happy ending.
Then things don't go exactly as planned, and he meets Arima 😍

You see, Arima is a BIG part of Taiga's reality check because boy is completely HEAD OVER HEALS. Mind you, i saw some people saying they kind of cringed because of the way he acted and that he was unrealistic or a "manic pixie boy," and I totally disagree, I disagree even harder because I do know boys like him in real life and I can assure sometimes this big extroverted person is nothing more than a nod to the neglected child they were on the past.
So, yeah, when he chases Arima through the hall, this is basically him saying "don't say no to me, because I need this 😃 um excuse me, 😀 I need to be happy 🙂 dont say no" , and it's so persistent Arima ACTUALLY has to show him their genitals...so...uh...kinda crazy, huh?
But surprisingly, this is not a big deal to them if not for the inconvenience, and I'll say more, They lost all their notion of decency way before their childhood Trauma
Let's talk about Maria...No! Sorry, I mean...
Let's talk about Arima

Arima is a complex character that I appreciate so much due to never seeing a representation like them in media before.
I'd like to say that I'll not get into the sexual abuse too much because this may get too long, and it's sort of a sensitive topic for me, but I might mention it later if I feel like it.
Arima, since very little, was forced to be perceived as a girl by his mom, a type of abuse called forced feminization, where, well, you force a vulnerable individual to use exaggerated accessories that would match better a woman according to the known gender norm.
It was clear, However, that Arima never had a normal childhood being perceived as a girl, since none of what they had was granted because they wished, it was what their mom wished to fullfill HER wishes, and so on Arima felt like a boy but had to keep the image of being a girl solid and intact, after all, it was all they knew.
This is really big on their relationship with Taiga, since they basically reverse roles when they mature

This pannel, for example, is screaming gender roles, with Arima being stuck to pink and girl toys while Taiga is surrounded by all types of boy toys. This pannel has, also, big foreshadowing for their image of a hero when they were little. While Taiga thinks he can be this awesome image of a savior he wished to become, Arima holds on to a hero, shyly showing that not only they need to be who they truly are, since this is also the only toy on the picture that they hold on and that they're trully interested, but they also look for a saviour, someone who could take them out of the feeling of not belonging, someone who could understand what they need. The only thing also separating both of them is a flower, which is much symbolical to their different perspective growing up and the curious impact of Taiga's dad in their lives.

The cover for this mangá is the paralel we get from the back, and honestly, it's so beautiful how it doesn't necessarily mean it is about Arima detaching from their feminity, Rather just how much Taiga helped them realize they don't need to look feminine to be accepted and fullfill anyone's wishes.
To me, at the end of chapter 6, it's most likely that yes, Arima might be a boy suffering from detachment of something that they knew since they were very little, the role of a girl; AND HEAR ME OUT! THE THEATHER CONTEXT WAS GENIOUS!!!
Arima, their whole life, were assigned as this little girl, that deep down, was unhappy with their identity.
Then they go through this horrible fucking abuse and they feel vulnerable and weak, and they say, well, I'm a boy. That's it, that's who I always was.
And then, they go to their first play and they play as a boy, and they act (literally) as a boy, but the second their abuser is there to see them, (motherfucker) they lose it.
They lose it because, in the first place, all that happened to them was because of the rumor they weren't really a girl, and concluding that, they run away from their real them to avoid facing their trauma and their identity.
So Arima only acts as a girl on plays (literally) despite acting so well as a male character, hiding their talent and their feelings from everyone.
Until Taiga appears and never give up on them, which is beautiful.
And then, in the end, we understand that maybe they are not a boy, maybe they are not a girl, maybe they are both, maybe they are neither, but;
1. Their gender is not defined by what they look like
2. It's nobody's business

I can't put into words how well written this whole scene is. The way they mimick how the abuse was, the way they're scared of getting attached to someone again, the way they're mentally destroyed by the doubt and the feeling of weakness and how none of this matters because Taiga love's them.
No matter the gender, Taiga fell in love with Yuu.
And then they feel comfortable again, which seals pretty much this comic.
No matter which role (gender or theather lol) Yuu chooses, they'll always be Yuu Arima, and they'll always be special.

THAT'S IT OH MY GOD, I MIGHT HAVE FORGOTTEN SOMETHING, THIS TOOK ME SO LONG, ANYWAYS LOVE THEM SO SAD IT'S NOT A BIG SERIES BECAUSE IT WAS SO GOOD WTFF 🥹
#boy meets maria#yaoi bl#tw abuse#literally everything would be solved if this fucking woman adopted a girl to be Arima's sister but whatever i guess#forced feminized#Taiga hirasawa#Yuu Arima#happy ending#gay#yaoi

HI SO THE SUMMER HIKARU DIED IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MANGAS I'VE RED THIS YEAR, I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER :D
I wanted to yap a bit about how i think it's pretty much important seeing it also as a BL and how so many people are misunderstanding the beautiful relationship between Yoshiki and Hikaru but specially 'Hikaru', who he later on falls deeply in love, HEAR ME OUT OK?
🍉 This contain spoilers 🍉

In one of the first scenes of this series, we can understand perfectly what's happening to both of the main characters. Hikaru is gone, and Yoshiki has to deal with his loss even tho his friend is still there, but oops 😬 it's not really him. It's some kind of weird monster he has never heard before. It's clear that Yoshiki's mental health is taking a deep dive, NOT ONLY because he saw the corpse of his dead friend and has to live with whatever this identity is, but because apparently, Hikaru had a strong impact in his life, considering the divorce of his parents and the feeling of loneliness he felt for being "diferent" (queer in a small town). It's somehow acceptable that whatever he felt about his dead best friend is insignificant in this situation, 'cause no matter what he did, accepting reality meant losing Hikaru forever, and he decides that it's such a ubereable feeling that he wants, no he NEEDS this Hikaru around.
In conclusion, Yoshiki has to deal with grief, the loneliness of the bigotry, the loss of his childhood and the acceptance of his trauma and issues.
And 'Hikaru' is now free. He could destroy most of the village and the people living on it; but he decides he won't, because he loves, OH he loves Yoshiki. To the point He gives part of himself to this boy just to make sure he's safe. It makes sense the original Hikaru had this feelings burried inside him already but it's also clear to me that this thing, this monster experiences feelings for the first time and he can't help but feel everything in a way more intense level. So Basically, his undying love for Yoshiki is the chain keeping him on the ground when he should be this destruction and murder machine.
Do i believe 'Hikaru' and Yoshiki could be lovers?
Absolutely.
Everything on this manga is ahead of what we see, for example, when Hikaru loses his control all of sudden and turns back to his real form

Have you ever felt something so fiercely you felt like pouring your soul, or screaming off the top of your lungs?
Well, the monster revealing himself is a way to let clear how much 'Hikaru' (or rather just queer people) repress their own feelings to "fit in".
It's very meaningful how 'Hikaru' is so open and expressive (especially in a physical way) about how he feels and who he is, and Yoshiki is more of a "quiet gloomy boy" who has the deep desire of hiding himself for who he is truly (the way he keeps his bangs long is probably a manifestation of hiding away, which really makes sense)
So, yeah, Hikaru dying and coming back is this big allegory of how once you're becoming who you really truly are, and bigotry is all around, people are gonna notice something is wrong and when you come out, suddenly you are a monster.

The "old lady" interacting with both of them and specially saying to Yoshiki to "be careful not to get mixed up with him" as if it was, maybe, some kind of disease is craazy, because out of context it really matches well all of the big metaphor of "being queer in secret at a small traditional village".
Also! I wanted to point the BIGGEST allegory in this whole series.
The "Hand in the hole"

I've even seen people compare it to abuse, which honestly seems to me not only untrue, but, as someone with het comp, kind of offensive?
But yeah, that's definitely a metaphor for gay sex or at least same sex intimacy.
The catch is, Yoshiki does seem uncomfortable because, like the insides of a monster, same sex relationships are "unnatural". It gets really easy figuring out he actually likes the feeling of being one with 'Hikaru' since the second time he does it, he keeps telling himself how wrong it is, how he shouldn't be doing it, and then he forgets it, because he likes it. It feels good; However, once it starts "sticking to him" (obvious alegory for feeling guilty or dirty, like he sinned) He gets scared and runs away.
I feel that, at first Yoshiki mourns Hikaru, he Mourns their old relationship of a comfortable friendship and he doesn't understand why did his best friend had to die and become a monster, something so weird, so unnatural; but later on, they learn to accept themselves for who they are, even if they feel different in their own ways and come to terms of accepting the unconditional love they feel for eachother.
ANYWAYS, I LOVE THEM THEY LOVE EACHOTHER, IT'S UNHEALTHY, IT'S DOOMED BY THE NARRATIVE AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL

I hope everything goes right for them, or else I'll have one more year of therapy over sad doomed yaoi 😞🩷

HEY,so...
Talking about Hachi's relationship towards my favourite character on the whole NANA anime series, Shin;

Hachi and Shin's relationship is so special in a way maybe only a woman could portray, a relationship between a mother and a son.
Its important to let it clear that not only Shin is in dependence and devotion of this relationship but hachi, specially and mostly because of her feelings towards men.
To get it better, we do have to quickly dive into her character,
But specifically into the intimacy her character shares with men.

The intimacy hachi shares with shoji (kinda disgusting saying his name, i know babes) is pretty much confused. She needs his affection, she needs someone to be strong for her and to take care of her. It's pretty much all that society says and specially the patriarchy stabilishes. This is shown since the beginning when they meet at the art school; Hachi needs a perfect life, a perfect job, a perfect house, perfect friends and most important of all, Hachi NEEDS a perfect boyfriend. An enchanted prince, her allmighty savior.

This is very much explicit when nana (her ideal pair) (that she's compulsivelly trying to ignore its her ideal pair) (she's the biggest comp het in the country) IS getting depicted as said "prince charming" on a oficial doodle

Its also very clear when she HERSELF depicts her as this traditional girlish house wife.
So we can conclude that
1. She doesnt wanna be alone in the future and its pretty explicit that her traditional beliefs coming from a small town taught her that the only way for her to have the perfect life and have someone by her side is being loved and cherished by a man
2. She HAS to offer something for a guy to like her, otherwise she sees no point on him loving her. This certainly means she has no confidence in herself as a woman, or at least, no good self steam.
3. She's comp het and wants a woman but doesnt know how to ask.
So, uh, that pretty much explains everything in the show, so its clear she NEEDS a man to fullfill her wishes,
This is very clearly presented in (ew) Shoji's relationship with her and subtle as an elephant in her relationship with (AAEHAGWW) Takumi

The intimacy they share is very desperate and the secomd she feels like maybe her friends left her behind, she goes to him, showing again how she needs this validation, how much she depends on this small amount of love that is offered to her when suddenly is convenient.
Talking about Nobu, the only man that let space for her to be herself, it's pretty explicit how much he loves her to the point she's able to take the lead of their relationship

Most hugs between both of them (if not for ALL the hugs they share) are from the side, with Hachi willingly hugging his arm, but having the total freedom of letting go if she wants. For the first time, she gets in a relationship with a man that does not have the urge to be dominant and treat her like an object, an accessory or an animal; putting aside all the pain she has to carry of the role model of a perfect idealized woman.
It's, however, never enough for her. In many words i could describe why all these relationships are not changing anything for Hachi as a person, even if they bring happiness with them. It's pretty much easier to say, Hachi is not being true to herself, but that's not tottaly it, because to herself, she is nothing but a prize for men, an object, and even so learning that she actually is her own person and that she is much more than someone who needs desperately to be loved, it's clear that when the love she needs doesnt meet her she freaks out, the girl breaks BREAKS down.
And that's how important shin is to her.

When they meet and Hachi suddenly discovers he's just a 15 year old trying to fit in something, it gets pretty obvious her urge to protect and take care of him much like the role she signs up for her whole life, a mother.
For as long as their relationship grows, Shin has shown Hachi kindness in a way she has never experienced from a man before, in a way that Shin never experienced from a woman. Fraternal love. A type of love so strong that bonds two people with no second intention.
Shin states he's been used and desired by women his whole life to survive, Hachi states that she cannot imagine a man loving her for who she is if not for one idea of her.
The night she comes back after sleepin with Takumi she states that she can't see herself as loved.
And in the same night Shin shows intimacy for her in a way no man in those pictures did before.

HE is desperate to see HER.
Their bond is so special that after having to look for someone to meet her needs, right after HE went to look for HER because HE needs HER.
Many other scenes could prove how much they both love eachother but i like to think it's such a strong bond that not even I could yap about them enough.

Thats it 😭😭😭😭 i hope i didnt sound crazy or sum
