Agent Elvis
By far the best part of the series is McConaughey as Elvis because he just oozes charisma and it’s near impossible to look away. 5/10 (Let down by weirdly immature writing)
I don’t really know where to start with Agent Elvis, the new Netflix animated series created by Priscilla Presley and John Eddie. For the first few episodes my feelings were almost overwhelmingly positive, Matthew McConaughey kills it as Elvis and the opening sequence alone is worth watching for. The show manages to capture the style of the sixties really well whilst still retaining a modern and…

QuANTuMANia
I’m not sure what is was about Quantumania that made me dislike it so much. Perhaps it was the flat staging, dull colour palette or the poorly realised characters but most likely it was all three. I quite enjoyed the previous Ant-Man films as breezy, light hearted romps – the shrinking/growing gimmick  led to some interesting fight sequences and Scott Lang was probably one of the most fully…

Lockwood and Co
Lockwood and Co is great. Let’s start with that, I can’t recommend it enough, please watch it because I’d love a second series!
Lockwood and Co is great. Let’s start with that, I know some people won’t read past the first paragraph so I want to make that clear. Joe Cornish returns after a four year hiatus do deliver a stand out series that teens and adults alike can enjoy. From the opening moments the audience is drawn in with little to no time devoted to exposition we are thrown into an action sequence which explains…

The Fabelmans
A joyously uplifting film that made me laugh, cry and crucially think hard about my future. Anyone unsure of what they want to do with their life should watch it. 9/10
The Fabelmans is the latest film from acclaimed director Steven Spielberg, it’s a semi-autobiographical account of his early life and stars Paul Dano, Michelle Williams and Gabriel LaBelle. It isn’t often that a film makes me cry, the last time it happened was Paddington 2. I take it to be a mark of quality if a film can evoke that kind of emotion in me. I think this film spoke to me in a number…

This Book Kills
The murder mystery genre seems to be having quite the resurgence in both books and film. And This Book Kills is a worthy addition to the pantheon of modern whodunnits.
Jess Choudhary is a pupil at Heybuckle, the most exclusive private school in England. Ex- Alumni have gone on to be significant politicians and journalists. Then a pupil is murdered, and Jess finds herself at the heart of the investigation. The death of a pupil at such a well renowned  school obviously has consequences; especially if, like Jess, your prestigious scholarship is threatened by a…

Tár
I really enjoyed Tár for the first two hours, partly because it sounds incredible – for me Blanchett's performance is deserving of all the awards possible but because of it’s botched ending I can’t call it a masterpiece. 6/10
Tár is a snapshot of the life of conductor Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett). It’s slow, contemplative and haunting until it isn’t. At close to three hours long it is an intense watch. Tár isn’t a nice person and at times being in her company is very difficult. There are a lot of lingering shots and close ups of Blanchett who delivers a performance that is nuanced and realistic without ever falling into…

Oscar Bait: The Movie
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a film trying harder to win Oscars than this one, Olivia Colman is “acting” by which I mean she’s being very loud, then very quiet and then a little bit unhinged before returning to comedy.
Empire of Light is the latest film from Writer/Director Sam Mendes (1917, Skyfall) it stars Olivia Colman, Toby Jones, Colin Firth and Bafta Rising Star Michael Ward. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a film trying harder to win Oscars than this one, Olivia Colman is “acting” by which I mean she’s being very loud, then very quiet and then a little bit unhinged before returning to comedy – Don’t get…

Our Flag Means Death
The “Gay Pirate Show” finally arrived on our shores on Wednesday! (BBC Iplayer) I would genuinely recommend it to everyone as it’s absolutely perfect, I don’t think there’s one bad episode.
The “Gay Pirate Show” finally arrived on our shores on Wednesday, months after it’s US release. It had proven to be a massive hit in the US – primarily because of its positive representations of sexuality which set the internet alight. But characterising this show purely as the “Gay Pirate” one is reductive. It has a lot of merit beyond its popular  LGBTQ+ characters. The show is funny, very…

Avatar: The Way of Water - Stunningly Beautiful but not what I wanted
My main takeaway from the film was that if Blue Planet had been released in 3D on IMAX screens, then it would’ve elicited the same feelings of awe and wonder that the first half of Avatar 2 provided. But without the sloppy final act.
I like Avatar. I’ve always liked Avatar. I was swept away by the visual splendour of Pandora, it’s fair to say that the plot is utterly meaningless when it comes to an enjoyment of the film. The appeal of Avatar is that it’s visually stunning, it’s world and creatures are incredibly well thought out and it utilizes its visual effects to create something truly out of this world. If you haven’t…

Glass Onion: A mysterious Masterpiece
I’ve been sitting on this review for over a month because I don’t want you to forget that it’s coming out. Although given that its on the side of literally every bus that would be a hard task.
Let me set the scene, it’s November 23rd, 2022, I’m writing this sitting in Screen 1, its four thirty and the screen is empty. There’s just 10 minutes to go until the film starts and “Let it go” is playing. The situation is oddly similar to the last time I saw a Ryan Johnson film. Same screen, same feeling of trepidation and excitement at seeing an original murder mystery story with an all-star…

Love Actually is an Overstuffed Mess
Love Actually is a divisive film, some people quite like it, I'm not one of those people. It's a mess and it should've been a TV Show! Merry Christmas
Love Actually is a staple of the British Christmas. It was released 18 years ago, I’ve been avoiding it ever since. This year, I decided to bite the bullet and sit down and watch this Richard Curtis classic. It’s not very good; that isn’t to say I didn’t find some things to enjoy but personally I found it to be overstuffed and underdeveloped. I’m not alone in this thinking but I wanted to put my…

Wednesday
I don’t think #Wednesday is perfect, but it is quite enjoyable and looks stunning. If, like me, you wanted a little more bite from Enola Holmes then I’d recommend you watch Wednesday. It offers all the teenage Sherlock vibes plus some real panache.
The power that Tim Burton had in the nineties and early two-thousands is something he’s been chasing for quite a while. I don’t think Wednesday is anywhere near as good as Edward Scissorhands or Mars Attacks! but Burton’s aesthetic is the backbone of the series. I can’t say I know anyone who was clamouring for a Wednesday Addams spinoff set during her teenage years. Yes, Christina Ricci’s…

The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself is Half Good
The plot is predictable, and the central character is quite bland, but everything around that is pretty good. 6/10
There’s a plethora of content released on Netflix every month and as aresult it is becoming harder and harder to decide what to watch. But I willalways find time for new British productions. Partly because I want to supportmore British content and partly because a lot of the best Netflix shows comeout of Britain; Sex Education and The Sandman to name but afew. The Bastard Son and The Devil…

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
9/10 - Good Sequel with unnecessary sub-plots
Four years on from the cultural juggernaut that was Black Panther writer director Ryan Coogler undertakes the mammoth task of not only creating a sequel to the most critically acclaimed Marvel Superhero film to date, but also honouring the legacy of Chadwick Boseman whose death from Colon Cancer at just 29 rocked the world. I, like many others, felt sure that a Black Panther sequel would be…

Enola Holmes: The Sequel
It's been over 2 years since I started writing reviews regularly. I've chnaged a lot since then so with the release of Enola Holmes 2 I thought I'd revisit an old review and update it with new knowledge. This is a review of both films in the series.
One of the first things I wrote when I started reviewing regularly was about Enola Holmes. I was 14 years old and a passionate Sherlock fan. At the time I was still under the misguided impression that Series 4 of that show was of a similar quality to the first two series. Enola Holmes rocked up and stripped me of the one piece of autistic representation I had. For a long time, I identified with…

She-Hulk and Modern Feminist Media - The Unnecessary Male Opinion
She-Hulk and Modern Feminist Media – The Unnecessary Male Opinion
When I first considered writing this my opinion was very, very different. It was a very closed-minded view that expressed a complete dislike of the show and its characters. I refused to give the show the time of day because upon first viewing it seemed to be extremely anti-men. The show follows Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who is accidentally infected with the blood of her cousin Bruce Banner (the…
