▪️Power Animal with Runes▪️ In this case it is a wolf - symbolizing the ability to navigate through life with confidence and strength. It represents the wild, untamed spirit that lives within us all. The wolf reminds us to embrace our primal instincts and to trust our inner wisdom. (tree not by me).

Extremely Rare Viking Gilt Freya Mount, 9th-10th Century AD

A parcel-gilt silver plaque pendant with facing seated figure, probably the goddess Freya, modeled in the half-round; the hands raised to grip lateral ribbed strands of hair, the garment formed as two crossed bands on the chest, the knees prominent and feet placed together; emerging from each strand of hair a feline with curled tail, ribbed body, foreleg curled over the neck, notched fingers and triangular face with lappet and snubbed snout; loop above the head, three holes to the edges.

The figure represents a seated female accompanied by two cats. In the Icelandic poem Gylfaginning (The Deceiving of Gylfi), Freya is said to be seated in her chariot drawn by two cats. Her hall in heaven is called Sessrumnir, meaning “with room for many seats.” She is also associated with a high-seat from which prophecy is made, similar to that of Odin.

The Langobards

The Langobards/Lombards/Longobards are an Italic-Germanic tribe with origins in southern Scandinavia around the first centuries B.C. and A.D.

Their steady migration southward can be retraced by archaeological artifacts, which show their Scandinavian origin.

Their early connections to (the geographical city of) Rome made them very influential in the Western Roman world; on financial, military, religious but also law practice and kingship levels.

The Lombards were quickly christened and were the founding fathers of many religious institutions in northern Italy, ruled Italy, and adapted/adopted Roman Law, making for a culturally rich period. Their capital Pavia is located in the Italian province of Lombardy, named after, you guessed it.

It has to be said (it sounds like a fake fact but is not) that their name means “Long Beards”. In many European languages the descriptive name can be heard in “Langobard” also written as “Longobard”.

Nidhöggr - Yggdrasil project wip - In Norse mythology, Níðhöggr (Malice Striker, in Old Norse traditionally also spelled Níðhǫggr, often anglicized Nidhogg) is a dragon who gnaws at a root of the world tree, Yggdrasil. In historical Viking society, níð was a term for a social stigma, implying the loss of honor and the status of a villain.

▪️Protective Serpent▪️ The serpent is one of the oldest and most widespread mythological symbols. The word is derived from Latin serpens, a crawling animal or snake. Snakes have been associated with some of the oldest rituals known to humankind and represent dual expression of good and evil. It is also an animal and symbol of protection and connects with the earth.

▪️Hydnellum suaveolens▪️ Hydnellum suaveolens is an inedible fungus often found beneath conifers. It has a funnel-shaped cap that is typically between 5–15 cm (2–6 in) in diameter. As its name suggests, it has a strong odor of anise or peppermint. A common mushroom that grows mainly on forest soils. Its main season begins in June and ends in November.

Thor and the Mushrooms - Fungi and their mycelium connects everything in nature, you will find it everywhere. It regulates all life.

The runes are inspired by the inscription of the „Velanda Runestone (swedish: Velandasten)“ - written in runes of the younger futhark „þur : uiki“, which means something like „may Þórr hallow“.

We just finished this step of the Nordic Mythology Sleeve including Skadi, Thor, Jörmungandr, The Elder Futhark Runes, Naglfar, Viking warriors, Triquetra, a Stanze of the Hávamál in Old Norse and symbolic Runes incl. a ship for the Family.

This is an ode to @erikreime who was a big inspiration for me to get into nordic tattooing. I got my very first tattoo from him and he inspired me a lot. My client here came with an example of a dragon made by Erik, so I was honoured to make this Dragon Tattoo for her.
