I am writing these words after losing hope in everyone… except for you, my friends. Tumblr has a very large number of users, estimated in the millions . That’s an enormous number! But imagine, with all those of people, how would you feel if people saw you and ignored you? You’d feel deeply disappointed, right? Or maybe you’d even wish for death.

Have you ever wished for death? For me, I feel like I’d rather die than be ignored by everyone. If I wasn’t in desperate need of help, I wouldn’t ask anyone for it. I really need help.

Imagine for a moment that you have a small child you love dearly, and you’re forced to watch her suffer in front of your eyes. This isn’t just an imagination for me; it’s my reality. My family and I live this pain every day.

I do wanna address what's happening right now outside of the building. There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military forces to stop a protest — and I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that? People are being swept up and torn from their families. I feel it's my responsibility, as an artist, to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people, For Black people, for Latino people, for trans people, for the people in Gaza. We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear. I hope that we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate and we protest against it.

props to Jessica Williams for making the distinction about the hardships in the business still being so present for women, but especially for black women (and in general non-white actresses in comedy)... even though no one in this room could echoes her thoughts. that and the point about having "comedy teachers" set on destroying you instead of lifting you up. there's so many parts of her experience i actually heard on these kind of roundtables for the first time. I mean, it's not that "new" as talks, I just could imagine myself in those kind of setting and the way I would rarely put myself out there or try to share my piece because it often feels wasted on them. Anyway anyway, I love Jessica Williams.
