Fuu is a damsel in distress character done right. Like, I think the reason that damsel in distress characters can be so frustrating is that they very often have little agency of their own. Fuu always has agency, she's the one who ties the trio together, who pushes the plot forward, who gives Mugen and Jin reason to change. In a sense, she's the one who gives them their agency. Even the fact that she gets kidnapped nearly every episode is proof of her control. She knew her limits, that she couldn't find her father on her own, so she conned two of the strongest swordsmen she's ever seen into taking her to him. If I were to write a damsel in distress character, Fuu would be my inspiration.
