…whatever one wants to do to achieve what they want to do with photography — whether it’s pinhole or a Leica or an 8x10 view camera or whatever. It’s your work. It’s like a poem. You put the poem on the table and you read it and no one is going to ask you if you typed it or wrote it out long hand. No one cares how long it took or how many re-drafts you did. How many pictures did you shoot? It doesn’t matter. The proof is the final print.

Night Market

It’s still festival season here.  Friday evening,  I discovered a pretty cool event that was a lot of fun.

The second Night Market, organized  by the North Limestone Cultural Development Corp (NoLi CDC), was Friday night, after being rained out the previous week.  It's described as a collaborative community pop-up event inspired by the concept of temporary urbanization.

What I found on the short stretch of road that had been made into a pedestrian-friendly and visually interesting midway was music (a live band, followed by a DJ), food vendors, artists, beverages, and lots of nice folks enjoying a super fall evening.  Even a ping-pong table that proved popular all evening.

There are plans to have Night Market events in October, November, and December as well.  I know I’ll be watching for them.

    Fresh Pork Rinds, Anyone? 

It's festival days in Kentucky.  That too-soon-gone time of the year when the weather is a little cooler, the air a little drier, the skies a little more blue, and it seems every town or group decides to throw an outside party.  Sometimes, so many choices that you have to make tough decisions as to which to attend.  Barbecue or Bourbon? Blues, Latino, Roots, or the variety that is Crave Lexington?  Usually, any choice is a good one.

For me, this time of year is always an unintentional time of reflection, of awareness of all that has been done, all that has passed by, and all those things yet to do.  Sometimes somber, sometimes wistful, sometimes fulfilled, but usually grateful and oddly energized in contemplative ways.  I get moody.  I get melancholy.  I get inspired.  This time of year always has that effect on me; I suppose it's my time to true the compass.

So as the days begin to quickly get shorter, the foliage less green, and the skies turn toward shades of grey instead of blue, after this summer I can say I'm glad for many things...among them, the ability to be torn by the decision of what festival to attend.  Sure, there are things that didn't get done, avenues to follow and expand.  But for now, I'm here and I'm going to make the most of the days.  And look for the next festival.
