Andrew wrapped his arms around her. The news rampant with news of a pandemic. “Don’t worry, Mum, I won’t let anything happen to us.” It was a promise he couldn’t keep, even if he meant it with all his heart. Things went quiet, he went back to his cabin and his school ritual. People started getting sick on campus and he decided to head back home again, but it was too late. No amount of military training could prepare him for Kerrera being gone. Nothing could prepare him for a lifetime of uncertainty when he’d killed every walker and not come across a single family member. The weight of it would be carried with him every second of the rest of his life. Every decision he would make would be an attempt at making things right, of finding them. Dead or alive.
