A swing that I made for story2tell.nl
The seat is made from a recycled timber post that was taken out of a water canal in Utrecht. Hung on a thick hemp fiber rope.

#3
For the past month or so I’ve been working on and off on a design experiment. I thought of this particular tripod construction and became a bit obsessed, struggling in my head, to find a purpose for it.
I got to work and made some quick scale models. I immediately turned in the direction of making a chair from it, however putting any kind of seat on top just broke the elegance of the shape itself. At the same time, without a seat, it will never be comfortable enough to be called a chair.
For now I settled on just making a life-size prototype of the construction, with hopes, that I can evolve it into something i the future.
Making it robust (if I ever happen to sit on it) requires some strong joinery to be used.
Finger joints at the outer corners
Loose plywood tenon + drawboring = strong connection, that clamps itself.
It was a fun and challenging little project and it's not as bad sitting on it as I thought. Also it sparked a few ideas for future exploration.
