The 2025 Gender Census is now open!

The 12th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 30th August 2025. It's for people whose genders (or lack thereof) defy or transcend the restrictive male/female binary.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

We're about a third of the way through the survey month and there are an incredible 30,000 respondents internationally so far from word-of-mouth alone - but the majority are from the USA, referred by Tumblr, and/or under 30! Can you help get the word out to more people?

The survey URL is https://survey.gendercensus.com and it's especially helpful if you can share it with your local LGBTQ+ support group(s) online or in person.

We also have some flyers / leaflets / tiny posters, which you can print out and stick up anywhere, and we have a press release pack with some helpful text and illustrations you can use freely.

the beauty of the world is that there are people out there having basically indistiguishable gender and sexuality experiences and one has several microlabels and an army of pride flags, one says "idk i guess im nonbinary or something" and the other is comfortably cis with a little flexibility. and all of them are correct because your identity is whatever you make of it.

This happened to me multiple times... First time in elementary school, an "anonymous" love letter saying to meet up in the schoolyard after school, I was left there alone for hours. Or in middle school when boys would fake ask me out in front of their friends, snickering about how ugly I was and how I had no friends. didn't happen at all in high school only because I didn't dare stand out or make any friends because all the other types of bullying I experienced the eariler years... Years later it still effects me as the idea of "I am ugly, strange and repulsive, I will never truly be loved" is rooted deep...
