With Jacob there were expectations. A silent, obedient wife who will not be the last one for her husband to take. A mother of many, born dead or alive, that would fill her womb with every passing season.
The expectations had been branded into her skin until they welted up red. They had been carved deep into her bones, poisoning the marrow and hollowing her out. Laying heavy upon her shoulders during the day and deep within her heart at night. That became routine, became her life, until she felt as if she had drowned. As if Jacob had consumed her the moment she said, "I do." . . . . Or the story in which Abish and Red Feather live

Ataraxia - Chapter 11 Snippet
"No one can take me from you. No one." She vows. The cut on her throat is proof enough.
The tension in his shoulders eases, his fingers trailing down to the ties of her dress.
"Dɨmbe Hɨvii." He speaks her name, asking for permission.
There is none to give—none that he doesn't already have.

Obsessed with relationships where the two characters have very different types of compassion
Character A is compassionate in a soft way. Almost naive in ways, they're trusting and gentle and they've been through a lot but they always had someone to fall back on; some kind of support system. They're selfless to a fault and work themselves to the bone to make everyone else happy because they want to give back the kindness they've been shown in their life despite their pain.
Character B is compassionate in a hard way. They've suffered and nobody was there to bail them out when they got in trouble. Maybe they used to be like Character A, but they never got anything back for their selflessness and the world has hardened them. Letting down their walls and allowing people to see their compassion is tough for them but those closest will always see the cracks in their composure.
They become close and buffer each other's compassion; A will remind B not to completely cover themself in that hard shell and B will remind A that not everyone wants the best for them and it's not selfish to take care of themself first. They're a perfect pair.

Vampires is different, maybe the worst kind. But they live on, even if the one that made them is killed. They gotta be killed, one by one.

“Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.”
— Vincent Van Gogh

Sejanus Plinth helping you take care of your curly hair
Sejanus standing outside of your shower while you hold your hand out. “Shampoo!” “Conditioner!”
Sejanus dividing your hair in sections to apply the curl cream then the gel cast
If you finger curl, he takes over because he does it so quickly and precisely.
Admiring your hair and calling you pretty when he sees the curls bounce
Comparing hair care routines with him and sharing advice
If you guys have similar patterns, then you share products
If a product you want is too expensive, you find it the next day on your nightstand, courtesy of your observant boyfriend
Giving him a heart attack when he sees your newly straightened hair

Academy Award Winners for Best Cinematography: 1998 — Russell Carpenter, ASC Titanic (1997) Directed by James Cameron Aspect Ratio: 2.39 : 1
Outlining his general lighting approach on the film, Carpenter says, "Early on, Jim [Cameron], production designer Peter Lamont and costume designer Debra Scott made decisions in regard to the period style, but there really aren't any set rules about what kind of lighting is or is not appropriate for a period film. Titanic will bear the stamp of Jim Cameron's very blue night lighting. But there's also a lot of amber in this picture, which is quite a departure. With the warmer tones, we sometimes added a bit of a sepia feeling to some of the light." Carpenter had considered the cinematographic approaches of several other period films, including Howard's End, Heaven's Gate and The Natural. Other influences included paintings by John Singer Sargent and Caravaggio. — American Cinematographer, December 1997

HEY GUYS
Who wants to help ruin Trump's birthday?
Yup you heard that right. On June 14, Trump is planning on having a pretty big military parade to be all like "I'm such a powerful king" and in response there's going to be HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of protests against his regime telling him to sit his ass back down.
The link below has more information and a map of currently planned protests. There's options in every single state. Even if you can't go, share this information, and consider reaching out to organizers of local protests to see if they need any logistical help. Chances are, they'll appreciate it.

Naru and Sarii (fan art)
Tumblr media
A quick sketch of Amber Midthunder's character from the 2022 movie Prey (plus her dog), that I did on a lazy Sunday night after binging a bunch of online content related to the Predator franchise.
It may be a prequel installment for an action-horror-scifi franchise, but Prey has some really darn good representation of Comanche culture, and I was particular enthralled by effort and attention-to-detail that was highlighted in interviews and behind-the-scenes videos I was consuming on YouTube. Producer Jhane Myers put a lot of creative work in to get things right, and I think it's great seeing that indigenous persons were for once exercising creative control of a movie about them.
Btw, I definitely dig Sarii the dog too :)

I'm so proud of this episode recorded with Mike of Thunderquack podcast! If you enjoyed Prey (I mean, who didn't?) or just like mythic/feminist stories in general, please check it out! We cover all kinds of topics, including how this tale reflects star stories of Indigenous Americans:

I'd love to share a lot more of my thoughts about this movie some day! Such an unexpectedly gorgeous film!

I'm surprised I never see any love for the Canadian supernatural drama Lost Girl on here. Did people just not see it? Because uh.
Tumblr media
That wasn't queer baiting. The main character (center) was a succubus and had real, serious, complex on-screen romantic and sexual relationships with both those people. It was Very Gay, created and produced by women, and highly entertaining. And packed with pretty people.
One of the main and most powerful characters was played by a very short man with brittle bone disease (Rick Howland), and he was always shot in a way that gave him equal power in the frame with the other actors. It was really impressive honestly, and skilled and wonderful.
The show got wacky sometimes, and very funny sometimes. It got muddy sometimes, too, as supernatural shows are wont to do, but mostly it was a ton of fun and also, I mean,
