okay so like i know the infamous “thanks to you, i am saddled with unnecessary feelings” line made us collectively lose our minds but it takes a WHOLE other meaning when you think about it that way:

miles, at this point, is still pretty much two entirely separate identities: the demon prosecutor, a carefully crafted persona, proud and cold and impersonal, and miles edgeworth, a scared and lonely boy whose heart is still stuck in the elevator of a district court.

and thats when he meets phoenix, again, bright and bold and kind phoenix, who contains so much brightness in his heart it spills at the seams, who literally wears his heart on his chest and cares so fucking much. phoenix, who is, right then and there, the only person who has known miles.

but miles is more von karma than edgeworth then, considering the courthouse as his own battlefield, regarding every feeling as useless because he only ever cares about winning… and phoenix forcefully scratches his way back into his life only to make his world crumble? and miles, probably unconsciously, has to think about how maybe… maybe… phoenix, in believing in the truth, is the correct one.

i know that from a romantic perspective, the “unnecessary feelings” line really feels like a declaration, but from miles’s perspective…? imagine meeting what was probably your only friend after years of radio silence, and then discovering they became what you always wanted to be, but ultimately succeeded where you failed?

id get unnecessary feelings too
