It’s incredibly important to me that the anime decided to include this scene that wasn’t in the manga. In the manga, Maomao does pass out in Jinshi’s lap after saving him from what was obviously an assassination attempt.

HOWEVER, the manga cuts off at this point, keeping strictly in Maomao’s perspective, and cuts straight to when she regains consciousness in bed after being treated for her injuries. The manga doesn’t show how she got back. They SAY how, and she briefly mentions, “wow that must have been embarrassing; he carried me back,” but we don’t SEE it. We don’t get to feel the true impact of what that means. But the anime DID show us, and holy shit.

They SHOW us how taboo this is. They show Jinshi carrying her out of the temple, after a public attempt on his life.

They show us the shock and horror on Lakan’s face as Jinshi silently walks past him. Horror at the state his daughter is in, horror at another man—a man with a status he could never dare to question—staking such a public claim over his child, horror at the fact that he could never have this level of closeness with her (as Maomao would never allow it).

Everyone hides their gazes, as is their custom when someone of his rank passes by, but the air is different this time. Jinshi is furious, he’s terrified, and he could not give a single shit about how inappropriate it looks to these palace officials.

The shot that slowly follows her trail of blood—even though it’s a small detail—that in particular leaves such a intense impression of how poignant this is for him.

Maomao talked about this scene in the manga like it was nothing to her. She did what she set out to do: she saved the person who was targeted by the attack. She didn’t even know the target would be someone she knew. But she has no idea that this happened afterwards as a result of her bravery. To her, it likely wasn’t even an act of bravery at all. She acted on impulse; she did what she knew was the right thing to do.

The anime didn’t need to include this, because the manga didn’t show it. But damn, I’m so glad they did.

Apothecary diaries with jinshi's smart sly 14 year old sister-

He's so easy to read which really helps with bullying the shit outta him

He gets so mad when you start flexing the fact that maomao like you better than him

He often asks you to help him with paper work and it makes everything so much easier for him he even finishes his work early

Every time he starts slacking off and running to maomao you have to do his work for him which you get payback for by making him buy you stuff

Sometimes jinshi gets a little careless and gets himself into some trouble. In comes you! You get him out of all sorts of trouble by using your wit and cunningness

You've been regarded as a gifted child for as long as you can remember

No one can top you when it comes to general knowledge hell even obscure stuff too!

You let out a long sigh,Looking over at your good for nothing brother with only his looks to pride himself on.

"Seriously, if you don't straighten up your act onenof these days it's gonna come back to bite you in the ass"

"Ughhhhhhh" your older brother, jinshi groaned he's slumped over his desk just yapping on and on about maomao going home.

In your opinion you think he's being dumb. It's so painfully obvious that whatever he thinks is happening isn't happening.you let out another sigh as you walk behind his desk and sit on it.

"You're so hopeless, seriously just get your work done" you poke his head over and over"but maomao.." he whines "I promise you that maomao isn't doing what you think she is"

"How do you know that.." he replies turning his he'd to look at you, resting his cheek on the table. "I know cause I'm way more well acquainted with her than you" you say poking fun at him,while you smirk mischievously.

He turns his head to look at you, seemingly frustrated by what you said. But it's not like your lying, despite the fact the jinshi has a crush on maomao he really doesn't know much about her.

But it the opposite for you as maomao had warmed up to you and told you a lot about herself, sometimes you guys even gang up on jinshi in bullying him(all in good fun).

"Ugh whatever"he says bitterly and turns his head back round. At this point you were getting angry as much as it it fun teasing him you two have work to do and he has to finish all his paper work so you can finally got to bed.

You, with the goal of sleeping a full 8 hours tonight, smack your older brother as hard a you can on the back of his head"stop being a whiny little shit and move your hands!" you say loudly

"Ow! What was that for" he says sitting up straight and holding his head in pain"ya keep whining and groaning about maomao leaving when you need to get your damn work done! You good for nothing brother"

You are thankful to say that made him finish all of his work a few minutes before 10 pm

As an anime fan I am ashamed to have only just realized this.

The entire time I was watching Apothecary diaries I loved Maomao and Jinshi both. I kept wondering who they reminded me of until...

He's just like Tamaki for Ouran hshc!!!!

Also Maomao is very similar to haruhi. Gosh I forgot how much I loved this anime.
