"Stupid Dog!"

introducing my newest proudest creation!

this painting was an exercise of patience. i began painting it on 04/30 and finished it on cinco de mayo :) it started as just random swirls of color.

my intention was to just start painting: make it exist, make it better later. once i got the colors down, i thought some eyes in the middle would do. the eyes and the colors made me think of the hyper realistic backgrounds in the very cartoonish courage the cowardly dog episodes, so i decided that's what this would be!

painting named by my fiancé

there is a square patch of white dandelions next to my neighbor's house, and it is visible when sunbathing in our back yard. my partner and i had the pleasure of spotting a strange furry friend roaming about within the dandelion patch. we named her dandelion. 🌼 this painting is inspired by that first sighting, and it was finished over a few glasses of wine from a local winery. :)

our sweet autumn loves people, and loves attention even more. this morning, she crawled all the way up to my chest and perched, erupting in purrs before even setting a paw upon me. all that could be seen of autumn, beneath my chin, was a sea of peachy cream fur!

i have the coolest models. 🙂‍↔️ where my orange kitty lovers at?

i realize i have been neglecting this account LOL i painted this like last year

here's a pet portrait i made of my friend's kitty, television dinner. telly is a sweet yet spicy feline leukemia positive baby. we found her in my partner's place of work. she had snuck her way in and successfully hidden for a while, but she's kind of noisy, so it didn't take them long to realize she was there.

eventually, his employer trapped her, and my partner and i couldn't let her go. we brought her into our home, ensured our pets' vaccinations were up to date (and got them boosters just in case)!

television dinner currently lives a happy healthy life with her mom, and we miss her sassy personality around this house. don't be afraid to take these sweeties in! most feLV cats live happy lives, and truly, they deserve homes just like all the other cool cats out there. <3

Genuinely think the only way to approach art is to like the things you like instead of tearing down what other people like.

"You should read classics because those are real literature unlike that TikTok garbage." Bad. Turns people away from reading the classics because it makes them sound stuffy and boring and makes you sound like a snob.

"You should read classics because this book is amazing! I love the characters and the story, and it's so cool to read a story that uses different techniques than modern fiction does." Good. Makes people want to read the classic. Suggests there's something good in this story instead of just suggesting that other stuff is worse.

"You don't like the modern art? That's because you're an unwashed plebeian who only likes what's pretty." Bad. Puts down the person and makes them even less likely to be interested in this type of art.

"Wow, I love this painting! Look at the technique! I love the message behind it!" Good. Helps the person to appreciate what might not be obvious at first glance, instead of shaming them for not automatically knowing this.

"You should watch this show because it's so much better than that other garbage show." Antagonizes people who like the garbage show and makes them less likely to feel positively toward the show you like.

"You should watch this show because it has great writing/characters/plot etc." Good! Tells people what makes this show appealing and makes them want to try it.

"I listen to this music because it's real art and not that manufactured pop garbage." Bad. Makes your genre seem like an exclusive club of snobs that I don't want to join.

"I listen to this music because I like the sound. Here, listen to this song." Good! Shows me something good within the genre and may encourage me to explore further.

There's a place for criticism. You don't have to like or approve of everything. But it's not a great technique for getting people to like art. Hating on the things that are bad just drives people away. If you want to draw people toward something, you have to help them to appreciate what's good.

today, my friends came over for our bi-weekly bestie night. i printed off a list of words and cut them up individually, then we all drew one word from the bag. we each had 5 minutes to get inspiration, then 15 to paint. (we may have extended the timer a few rounds 🙂‍↔️) each painting is named after the words we each drew.

I started with this one, and it is called Butterfly Garden Rose Bloom. I will be adding more to this over time!

My partner made one too, but he is currently still finishing his up. :) I will post it here whenever he is done. I drew a REALLY good word for his, I look forward to sharing. 😂

this is my recreation of my very first painting. the first photo being the original (immature form) and the second photo being the recreation (adult form). I named it "Metamorphosis" because it symbolizes the transformation of my artistic abilities over time. :) 10/11/2020

Gir on Piggy, and Spyro the Dragon

Fraternal twins born within the same week, Gir on Piggy came to life early in the morning on 12/29/2016. I loved the show Invader Zim growing up, and I was feeling a little nostalgic at the time.

This was followed immediately by Spyro the Dragon, which was completed on 01/02/2016. This was another ode to nostalgia, as I used to play the trilogy on my elder cousin's PlayStation 2 as a kid. :)

Posting all of these paintings together because they give the same vibe to me I refuse to elaborate. <3
