Prompt # 2 - Forced to go to school/work while sick Summary: TK convinces Carlos to call in sick when he's running a fever and Carlos is all set to.... until Campbell texts him that he has a family emergency and isn't coming in.

“You’re staying in there until all your labs are clear,” Owen insists, his voice growing firmer. “The nurse will leave an old pager for you. If you feel like you’re going to drop, you need to page one of us right away. You know how to do that using voice-to-text, right?

“I’m not an idiot.”

“April Marie…”

“Yes, Dad. I know, okay? I know.”

The nurse exits through the bubble, locking it behind her. April glares at the stupid door.

“What? I’m a caged animal now or something?”

“It’s protocol for everyone, Bumblebee,” Owen says once the nurse exits. “You’re going to be fine. There are books and magazines, enough to keep you preoccupied while we wait this out. The nurses will bring you food. And I’ll come visit you as much as I can.”

His pager goes off, and he checks it.

“I’ll be back in a little bit. Just sit tight.”

April glares at him. “I don’t have much of a choice, do I?”

“Not really. Hang in there, Bumblebee.”

April waits until he’s successfully exited the room to mumble “bite me”.

Jonah stopped and started over. “Hi, [redacted]. I’m your brother.” She wasn’t crying anymore, but she was just… looking at him. She didn’t blink. Were babies supposed to blink their eyes? “I’m Jonah,” Jonah said, turning around, his back to the door. “You knew that. You might hear me call the guys who are your dads… not Dad. And I want you to know, it’s not a mean thing. It’s not like when my friend Charlie and I were at the trampoline park, and Uncle Judd said it was time to go, and Charlie said, ‘Don’t tell me what to do, Juddy!’ Boy, did that make him mad.” Baby [redacted] was still just looking up at Jonah, listening intently. “TK is your dad,” Jonah told her. “But he’s my big brother. I have a dad. He doesn’t live here. He lives in jail, in New York. We go see him on my spring break every year. And in the summer. I miss him. But we talk on the phone. And Papa Carlos… I call him Papa or Abba. He answers to either one. They’re good dads. They won’t give you your own phone when you ask. Even if you ask nicely. Even if you say please. Even if everyone else in your class has a phone and you don’t…”
