I have this headcanon that Madeline and Helen have the upmost joint mental breakdown that made them stay in the mansion holed up together for like a month while their bodies adjusted and their minds cleared and after that they just went manic at the same time.

Helen began to write again and contacted her agent to connect with more publishers for new ideas she had for books, she even pivoted to do some screenwriting and even got to try her hand at graphic novels adaptations of her own books and some of the classics.

Madeleine fired her old team and with a lot of convincing managed to put build a new one under Viola’s people. Chagall becoming her agent and that man got her booked and busy just as she wanted. He even convinced her to be more authentic on interviews and with her online presence.

When the manic episode began to slow down and everything settle for the both of them it’s when they finally had a long overdue conversation and finally admitted to all of their baggage and feelings. Couple’s therapy was considered but at the end they hated it.

They went public at a publishing event Helen was attending, it was a quiet and soft launch. For the first time Madeline didn’t want all the attention as it was Helen’s night so Chagall took care of it all and released a generic statement on behalf of the both of them. Helen kept writing under different pen names. Madeline would sneakily promote her new books to her audience. She had become a mysterious author that never showed her face, Viola had gotten her a trusted and immortal agent, Lisle.

The following years in the spotlight Madeline never remarried or had any fling that could be attached to her. Madeline Ashton was an eternal widow, always wearing her engagement and wedding ring, she had added an eternal ‘H’ pendant to her wardrobe and would always talk about her beloved wife whenever it was possible.

Madeline faked her death around the 5th anniversary of Helen’s passing. They were called tragic lovers by their followers.
