So... I know primaries are aspirational, I’ve heard that a lot. But I’ve been a bit confused on secondaries- are they aspirational too? What if, for example, someone likes one sec, but another comes more easily to them? Thanks!
I know what people mean when they say “aspirational,” but I also think it’s a word that confuses more than it illuminates.
A lot of people who write in with testimonials have burned primaries or secondaries (which makes sense, it’s a lot harder to ID your primary/secondary by yourself when it’s burnt.) And from that perspective, if you’re in a place where you think you shouldn’t use your primary/secondary and are carving yourself into ribbons trying to fit into into some “aspirational” shape... sure that technically counts, but it’s no way to identify yourself.
People get confused trying to find their secondary, because they throw too many pieces of data into the pot. The questions to ask yourself are:
How do I solve problems? (Lay out your strategies, think of times when you had to learn something, figure something out, get out of a jam, etc.)
What problem solving methods feel good/not stressful? (Because that’s a key part of this system. Solving problems using your secondary should feel good.*)
If it’s a method you use to solve problems that makes you feel stressed, tired, and miserable? That’s a model.
If it’s a method to solve problems that you consciously built because it was useful and/or fun? That’a also a model.
* A big part of the reason people write in with burnt secondaries is because a burnt secondary is this complicated exception that was fun at one point, but isn’t anymore. And that can be because you’ve got guilt or trauma attached to your secondary, it isn’t appropriate to your current situation, or you’ve burned it out from overuse/some issue with your primary.
