In the middle of meal prepping for the week I said fluff it imma make some cinnamon rolls- from scratch. We’re in the middle of a big deadline and comfort food is calling my name 24/7. So what do you do when you’re craving something that you know is not the best for your body? You make it from scratch, it takes longer but you will be able to choose the best ingredients for your recipe. Store bought goodies are packed with ingredients that are hard to pronounce and we have no idea where they come from. Good food takes work but it’s SO worth it. And- here comes the most important part . . Make sure you share it with friends/ family/ neighbors/ lovers because you know, the chances of you eating the whole pan are really high 😉 . . I remember going to my osteopath because I was in a very sad place and he said, Anja you just need to play, being an adult can be fun as too- never heard wiser words. . . We grow up and we are inundated with tons of responsibilities, some you might not even signed up for- ehmmmm laundry, I’m talking to you- And in the midst of figuring life out, we forget how to play. Many mamas may relate with me when I say that sometimes we don’t even have time to play with our kids and that’s because we are not playing at all in life. Here are my thoughts on smoothies & smoothie bowls 🥥 I absolutely #love them but, there always a but right? They are packed with sugar, and as you guys know... to much sugar 💀 Here are my 5 tips for happy smoothieng-I love to invent words- . . ✖️Make them yourself, store bought one have sneaky ingredientes and sometimes they even add sugar. ✖️Add veggies such as Kale, spinach, carrots, cucumbers. ✖️Coconut water is awesome, make sure it has no added sugar or fruit juice. Unsweetened nut milks are the jam. ✖️If you add protein powders, make sure that they’re low in sugar- 2g per serving is ideal. I prefer unsweetened ones because they taste of alternative sugar is just not pleasant for me. ✖️Choose 1 or 2 fruits low in sugar, don’t got rainbow fruit on your smoothie because you’ll easily add up to 50gr of sugar per serving and that my friend it’s a crime, well not really but you get my point. So you get an idea, a single banana 🍌 can have up-to 25gr of sugar and a cup of mangoes 🥭 22gr. . . Many fruitarians will read this and say, girl you know nothing and I respect their point of view. Am I against sugar? Nope, not at all but I’m aware that your body doesn’t need industrial amounts of sugar in order to thrive, in fact, rather the opposite. . . Sourdough English muffins 🍞 . . Remember that I told you that you can do amazing things with your sourdough starter? . . Ok, let me back up a little because I can easily see how this can become quite overwhelming. But it’s not, bare with me darling. . . Each time you’re feeding your starter (which is homemade yeast) you have to discard a cup before feeding it because it will overflow your jar and it will be a mess, trust me, I’ve been there. Instead of discarding the cup of starter, you can use it to make English muffins, waffles, pancakes, banana bread. You name it. . . Who wants the recipe of these G L O R I O U S muffins ❓ . . Life is not a straight path to be walked and even health coaches struggle with having consistent healthy habits. This pic was taken when my heart was aching in a way I never thought possible. Healthy eating was not a priority. I didn’t want structure and I was desperate to have some sense of freedom. I allowed this to happen, I gave space to my feelings and hugged my heart as hard as I could. However I chose not to go down the rabbit hole, I chose to start fueling my body with nutrients that would nourish and heal. What I’m trying to say here, it’s that is ok to let go sometimes, it’s ok not to eat healthy all the time but this is not a green flag to make it a lifestyle because in the long run your body will start aching as much as your heart does at the moment. If I had to make an analogy it would be that life it’s like making sourdough. At first it may seem daunting, you might not have all the tools they say you need and one recipe won’t get you to your final product but when you realize that it’s all up to you, that you’re creative enough to figure sh**t out, when failing the first few times doesn’t discourage you then you will get where you want to go. It’s all about cultivating an growth mindset and, this is a big one, wait for it...... . . Have patience because there’s not such thing as overnight success. . . The recipe, I cannot give credit to one person because I watched countless of YouTube videos and read at least 40 blogs. So I thank everyone who made this amazing bread possible. . . ✖️3/4 cup of sourdough starter ✖️2 1/2- 3 cups of flour ✖️1 cup of lukewarm water ✖️1 tsp of Himalayan salt ✖️Mix all the wet ingredients, sift the flour, if you don’t have a sifter use a fine strainer. Knead the dough for a few minutes (it will be sticky, don’t add extra flour) I have to mention that I’m doing a lazy version. Oil a bowl and let the dough rest in a warm spot for 3-4 hours covered with plastic wrap and a towel on top. Shape your dough and put it in a glass casserole,with parchment paper, top with flour, cover and let it rest for 2-4 hours. Slice the top of the dough with a sharp knife. Preheat oven 450F bake covered for 20min, uncover and bake for extra 30min. If you want to add extra moisture, place a tray in the oven with water. . . . My sourdough starter was 2 weeks old, feeding it every 12-24hr hours with 1/2 cup of flour and 3/8 cup of warm water. Remember to discard 1 cup of starter every time you feed it. In the process of self discovery and finding what feels good I experimented with different types of nutritional approaches. My favorite by far is plant based but we’re not exclusive. When I eat meat, I make sure that I eat high quality, grass/vegetarian fed, organic,wild caught and local. One of the most popular saying goes “You are what you eat” but I believe that we are what we can digest and what the animal ate. Meat is a rare staple at our house but these lamb burgers are a hit. Cheat meal? No, I don’t believe in those. I have a love affair with food but don’t see it as a punishment nor a reward. We’ve been taught since we were little: “If you finish all your food you can have sweets” “If you do all your homework you can have cake” and that’s when our relationship with food goes sideways. ✖️Food is fuel. Period. ✖️If you have an expensive car would you use cheap gas ? ✖️It’s all about the quality of the ingredients ✖️It’s about the people who you share your food with. Kid you not, there’s scientific proof that when people eat Mc Donald’s with people they care about, the overall inflammation response in the body is lower than if they eat it by themselves. Should we all eat Mc all the time? Probably not, remember cheap fuel. Your body is a freakin Ferrari.
