for april book club (his picks) we read: a song for lya (just the novella not the whole collection named after it) by grrm and invisible cities by italo calvino. both gave us plenty to discuss. i think i'm a little too stupid for invisible cities, i still need to read someone else's analysis of it.

bf bought me house of leaves, it's on his to-read list but he hasn't read it either, he just got it for me because it's on my list. i finally started it today, i'm having fun so far. it's hard to remember that the navidson record isn't real, at least according to johnny. to read it while having in mind that zampanò is making this up for who knows what reason. i'm on like numbered page 13 after the introduction.

i don't even have anything else specific to say, really. this felt like a bunch of half-baked songs churned out to keep attention on her. i understand that this album was supposed to be the chronicle of her recent love life but it's too much on the same topic!!! it's BEEN too much on the same topic, if i were tswizzle i would be writing songs about so many other things. other rich people i've met who are certified freaks. family drama. being stalked. how it feels to be an industry and have other people's livelihoods tethered to my ability to produce and my popularity. there has to be so much more going on in her world than the narrow set of topics she always returns to, it's like she can't write about the REAL real shit because the music is the vehicle for romanticizing her life. and also there's the brand she wants to maintain and lacking talent and imagination and whatever else. the most interesting song on the album was definitely i can do it with a broken heart, she should do more songs about performing and/or wanting to be dead. i need her to reach depths of misery she has heretofore never conceived of.
