How Dinah and Greaseball met :)

Format: Drabble (544 words)

Version: Wembley ; pre-canon

Warnings: mentions of injury (Gb scratches her knee)

Damn it! Greaseball had been on the training track for hours, yet she just couldn’t seem to beat her own time. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she took a corner too sharply, trying to save any time she could, and scraped her knee. How was she going to become a champion at this rate?

“Hey, I saw you fall just now..”

The voice snapped the diesel out of her thoughts, it wasn’t a voice she knew, but she was quick to assume it was another engine in training, coming to mock her and her fall. She already had a snarl on the tip of her tongue, more than ready to snap at whoever dared to try and talk down to her - only to forget it all when she saw the prettiest coach she had ever seen. She was stumped for a moment, to see the woman in front of her. The girl carried some bandages with her, so maybe an on site medic coach? Though the outfit said otherwise.

“…what’s it to you?” Greaseball prodded, trying to figure out what the other wanted and what she was feeling. “Well, I saw the fall, and it looked like you scrapped your knee… I’m no medic coach, but I thought these bandages could at least help a little!” The smile that accompanied the spoken words could blind greaseball if she wasn’t careful, the coach was simply radiant. “I’ve dealt with worse.” The engine responded plainly, she had a reputation to uphold, after all. And it seemed she now also had a coach to impress. Still, she grabbed the bandages, wrapping them around the wound - just because she’s tough doesn’t mean she had to always be a total idiot.

“I’m Dinah, by the way! Dinah the dining car!” A dining car, that fit the outfit more. “Greaseball, diesel engine.” “Nice to meet you, Greaseball!” The diesel didn’t respond at first, she wasn’t sure what to say. That was weird; usually she didn’t say anything because she didn’t want to, not because she didn’t know what. The coach had an effect on her, and whatever it did, she wanted more of it.

It was now or never, wasn’t it? Who knows if she sees her again if she doesn’t. “You know…” Greaseball started, just as Dinah was taking the long silence as a sign to leave, which quickly stopped her in her tracks. “…it would be good to practice with a coach sometimes, since I need to race with one in the race anyway, if you wanna go for a spin sometime?” Dinah seemed to only lighten up even more, and Greaseball didn’t know a smile could even get that big. “Sure! Let me give you my number, just call whenever you want to go!”

The diesel just nodded, taken the quickly scribbled down number from her, before two other coaches called out to the pair, Dinah’s friends if Greaseball had to guess. And just as quickly as the coach had approached, she now made her way over to the others, though she quickly shouted one last thing over her shoulder.

“it’s a date!”

Once she was gone, she looked at the note, smile on her face and wound completely forgotten, mumbling to herself “It’s a date…”

Dating headcanons

Characters: Greaseball

Format: Headcanons

Warnings: talk of arguments (nothing specific)

-She LOVES validation, especially from you, she will purposefully show of her muscles or go extra fast, in hopes of a compliment or even just a gasp from you. It feeds into her ego, a lot.

-A bit possessive and jealous. She hates it when someone else flirts with you, especially if it's another engine. She'll be there in seconds, cutting them down to size. She'll probably never admit it, but it's because deep down she's worried you'll leave her for someone gentler; someone better at loving you the way you deserve.

-However if she ever sees you defending yourself/cutting the flirt down to size yourself, before she can? She'd find that incredibly attractive! She'd be all smug about it too

-She sadly doesn't take well to critique. Communication isn't exactly her strong suit, so when you try to tell her that she did something wrong/made you uncomfortable, she'll usually just stare at nothing specific, crossing her arms; you won't get much more out of her than an occasional annoyed "mhm"

-It's not that she doesn't want to, she just doesn't know how to. Nonetheless, she carries your words around with her for a good while. She'll try to subtly change, but her ego tends to get in the way. She tries she really does, but she was never taught how.

-however, usually a few hours or a few days after every argument, you'll find a small gift from her, or a bouquet of your favourite flowers waiting for you (either on your desk or your doorstep, depending on if you live together or not). Of course, it doesn't make up for everything, but it's a start

-She'd definitely want to race together with you if you aren't also an engine, no matter if carriage or freight. Racing is incredibly important to her, and she wants to share the experience with you

-She usually likes to show you off, always having a hand on your hip, or a small kiss on your head, just generally keeping you close. The one exception is when she's in an argument with someone, for example when Electra is once again egging her on before a big race, she doesn't respond well to anyone getting to close to her when that happens.

-Date nights are usually stay in movie nights, races, or simply whatever you two impulsively decide to do.

-She isn't big on fancy dates. You did go on quite a few ones when you first started dating, since she wanted to show off and impress you - but she seems to get pretty awkward during them. Not to mention that she doesn't like having to wait so long for food at the fancy restaurants.

-after a hard day at work, she loves coming home to you and fall asleep cuddling. She'd never admit it, of course, but getting to hold you is very comforting for her

Could you do a reader x Slick? The reader races with Rusty the first attempt of the race and gets seriously injured due to Slick’s actions? Slick didn’t intend such an injury, only attempting to keep Rusty from racing. Some hurt/comfort as she tries to make things better and help take care of the injured reader, please!

Whatever it takes

Hi!! I had lots of fun writing this; it’s been a while since I wrote a proper fic :p hope you enjoy!!

Slick accidentally severely injures Reader during the race, she didn’t intend for this.

Character: Slick

Format: One shot (1232 words)

Warnings: Mentions of crashing, injuries, and the hospital (referred to as a repairs shed since they’re trains)

Slick was surprised, to say the least, when she heard that Rusty already had a Race partner. It put a small dent in her plan, having planned to race with him and slam the brakes, but she managed. She hadn't bothered to find out who Rusty's Race partner is, instead focusing on coming up with a plan.

On the day of the race, she stood proud in the audience; everything was set up perfectly, oil on the Track Rusty planned to take, Electra and Greaseball had been informed where to stay clear, and both had already paid half up-front. Now she just needed to sit back and enjoy the action!...That was, until she saw who rolled up to the start line alongside Rusty. Panic crept in as she watched you get into starting position, this was not part of the plan, you were not meant to be anywhere near the tracks! 

She racks her brain in an attempt to find a way to stop this, but the oil is already spilled, and if she told the marshals she'd need an explanation as to how she knows - not to mention Greaseballs and Electras fury if she does. She barely registers the starting signal and the corresponding cheers around her, as she stands there with her face in her hands, trying not to let her panic show.

Rusty was known to be awfully kind, he'd probably uncouple you the moment he feels himself slip, and you'd be save. That is what she tells herself over and over as she watches the race, but she can't know that for sure, she could only pray to the starlight and watch.

It wasn't long till the moment came; Rusty took a turn on what he believed to be short cut, only to be met with unstable ground, making him loose his footing faster than he can react. Just as Slick had hoped, he uncoupled you as soon as he realised what was happening, but by then it was already too late. 

You two had been going faster than either of you was used to, and with the added oil, you weren't able to balance yourself in time. Slick could only watch as you fell of the Track onto the harsh ground a few meters below, Rusty following suit just shortly after . She wanted nothing more than to look away, to close her eyes and pretend that this was just a bad dream; but it seems her body doesn't want to listen, instead standing there as if frozen, as she watched the the crash displayed on the screen in front of her. Only after she watched you be brought away by the on-site repair trucks could she move again.

She pushed through the crowds of people, all who seemed to be talking  about the crash. She didn't bother to look where she was going, or who she was running into, just focused on making a beeline towards the repairs shed.

And here she is now, pacing in the waiting room as she had for at least an hour now. The repair trucks and anyone else working there must hate her by now, as she just kept asking them how you are over and over, not to mention her rambling away about her worries to anyone that would listen. It's unusual for the freight, known to be laid back, if not straight up mean at times, and most importantly: she was not usually one to talk about personal things, especially not feelings, and especially not to total strangers.

the cycle continues, until one of the doctors finally tells her that she can come see you now. She rushes into your assigned room faster than the engines cross the finish line, a chorus of sighs of reliefs follow behind her, from the exhausted staff who had to deal with her until now.

A wave of relief washes over her when she sees you, awake in your assigned bed. Though the feeling of relief is gone just as fast as it came, being replaced by the same guilt she felt when she watched the crash. You're wrapped in bandages, and hooked up to some of the machines. And it's her fault. 

She just stood there for a moment. All that pacing around, but now that she was actually confronted with you, all movement seemed impossible. Only after you weakly smile at her does she slowly approach you and sit down next to you.

She wanted to say something, anything, but she didn't know where to start. In the end, you beat her to it. "I know you caused the crash, Rusty told me." She froze, the, by now familiar, panic setting in again; do you hate her? she couldn't blame you if you did, but the thought still stung. "I just want to know why." The tone of your voice nearly killed her. You sounded sad and almost betrayed, rather than angry or enraged. How in Starlights name was she going to explain that?

She might as well say it as is, you were going to find out sooner than later anyways. "...It wasn't meant to get this out of hand, it was just meant to discourage Rusty from racing." She looked at the ground next to the bed, unable to look you in the eye, but she knew that didn't explain why she did it. "I was offered a lot of money, and the freight part of the yard has been getting budget cuts, and I-" The tanker was stumbling over her words, she had never been good at this kind of thing. She took a deep breath before continuing, "neither of you were meant to get hurt that badly, especially not you." 

If she could disappear, she would. She could only imagine what you must think of her - "I don't forgive you." - and that confirmed her worries. you didn't forgive her, why would you? She let her head drop. She was about to get up and give you the space you deserve, when you continued; "but i also don't hate you." 

What? She had to be dreaming, or maybe maybe she misheard you? It was clear you knew what she was thinking, though she didn't exactly attempt to hide it as she looked at you in shock. "I don't forgive you, but i also don't hate you," you repeated. "I don't fully understand it, and never will, but you had your reasons. But you have a lot to make up for. Both to me and to Rusty."

It took her a moment to truly comprehend what you said, nodding along as you talk. She could feel a small smile creeping onto her face alongside tears. She doesn't even remember the last time she cried, but so much had happened in such a short, it was nothing if not overwhelming. "whatever it takes." A promise that she planned to keep.

And she did. She, begrudgingly apologised to Rusty, under your watch to make sure she wasn't mean about, and then barely left your side during your recovery. You needed something? she was on it. Felt stiff? she may not be good at massages, but she was sure as hell going to try! i believe you can see where this is going - she planned to keep her promise and do whatever it takes to make it up to you. She got far to close to loosing you.

I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.

Greaseball

-It was a spur of the moment thing, most likely after a winning a race together

-One moment you're relishing in the applause and celebrating your victory, the next there's suddenly a pair of Lips on yours

-I feel like she'd kiss you first, mostly because she wouldn't hesitate to. If she wants to kiss you, and you don't say no, she's gonna kiss you - who cares who's watching, or that it's your first kiss!

-I don't think she'd wait that long to kiss you, maybe a few weeks into your relationship, at most a month 

-I'd say she's a pretty good kisser, seeing how the show makes her seem like a bit of player, so I do think she has at least some experience 

-A bit rough, but honestly really passionate! As nonchalant as she may act at times, she truly does care about you about you, and it shines through in moments like this

-Definitely not a short kiss - not quite making out, but it does last longer than just a few seconds

-Despite all her big talk, she's smiling like an idiot after, and there's a slight blush coating her cheeks 

The audience erupts into cheers and applause, as the two of you cross the finish Line. but what else did you expect, when racing with the champion? The two of you come to a stop, as you take it all in, looking around at all people celebrating you two, not noticing Greaseball looking at you instead. Before you even realise it, there is suddenly a pair of hands on your hips, and the Engine you've come to love mere inches from your face. When you don't pull away, or look uncomfortable, she goes for it, and finally kisses you! Her lips were a bit rough, and perhaps a bit callous - she never did seem like one for skincare. But in that moment you didn't care, because as imperfect as either of you may be, this moment was all you could ever dream of. And despite the cheers only growing louder, as you close your eyes and wrap your arms around her, everything else seems to just disappear. 

Electra

-I feel like it could be either of you initiating the first kiss, really just depends on how forward of a person you are

-I mentioned in a previous post, that I think of Electra as more of a private person, so it probably happened while cuddling, a stay in date, or while somewhere where no one else is (Like while stargazing on an empty field, or taking a walk (a skate?) through a less travelled by area!

-I don't think that they wait a specific amount of time for the first kiss, instead just waiting for the right moment, so it could take anything from 2 weeks to 2 months till it happens 

-While they are a at least a decent kisser, i actually don't think they have much experience (unless you view them and the components as a polycule ofc), and that inexperience does shine through a bit

-It would be a soft kiss, them being slightly hesitant, but a very loving one 

-as for how long the kiss lasts, that's entirely on you - they're not pulling away until you are :)

-Bit of a basic headcanon, but they might accidentally shock you while kissing; not the type to actually hurt you, it just makes you feel a bit tingly for a moment! It's a good thing, though, that's them letting their guard down around you

It's a quiet night, for once, with you and Electra cuddled up on the couch. Only starlight knows where the components ran off to, and even the freight crew seemed to be asleep for once, and Electra couldn't imagine something more blissful. Their eyes wandered from the window to you, laying on their shoulder, in peaceful silence. They always find you beautiful, but today the light seemed to fall on you perfectly, making you seemingly glow. "what?" you question with a soft smile, now staring back at them. They open their mouth to answer, but instead their eyes wander to your lips, and before they realise it, they kiss you. It is as gentle as the night, and if they could, they'd make this moment last forever  

Rusty

-you'd definitely have to be the one to initiate, even if he wants to, he'd get to flustered and chicken out 

-That also means you're in charge of how long into you're relationship until the kiss! Tough I don't think he's the type to rush things, so maybe wait at least a few weeks ;) 

-Most likely while out on a date - I can see you two on a spontaneous date, stargazing somewhere (can you tell that i like stargazing?), and he's rambling on about constellations and maybe the starlight express, while you're just thinking about how pretty he looks in the moonlight, before you simply decide to kiss him

-He'd be so shocked at first, he completely freezes for a moment. He has no idea what to do.

-I don't think he has much experience. Honestly? You're probably his first kiss ever, so even after finally realising that he should probably kiss you back, he'd still be a bit awkward - He's absolutely giving it his all, tough :) 

-There is so much love in this one kiss, it's unbelievable! While he may not know what he's doing, it's still a very soft kiss

-He'd be blushing like Crazy after, and is more likely than not to flustered to look you in the eyes, it's cute, really 

Both of you had looked forward to this day for a while now: you're shared day off! You've just been running around the yard together, doing whatever came to mind; neither of you had planned anything specific. And now, to end the day, the two of you had settled on a patch of grass, near the tracks, watching the stars!... Or rather, you're meant to be looking at the stars, but instead your eyes settled on the Steamer next to you. On your Steamer. He was talking about one of the constellations, tough you've stopped listening to the specifics a while ago. Not because you don't want to, but rather because it's hard to focus with how sweet he looks when exited. He eventually halts his talking, when he finally notices you staring at him, as a light blush appears on his cheeks, followed by a nervous smile - but before he can question you're gaze, you're lips are on his, and he freezes. He's tought about what your first kiss would be like quite a few times now, planned his reaction even, and yet it's as if he's forgotten every though he ever had. He smiles as he eases into the kiss, sure it might not be perfect, but it's better than everything he#s ever dreamed off.

Dinah

-Another one where it could be either of you

-if she's the one to initiate, she probably wouldn't wait all that long, but would want to do it during a particularly sweet moment 

-I can imagine you two baking or cooking together (or her baking/cooking while you occasionally help, if you don't like baking/cooking) and it ends in a small flour fight, and that somehow ends in you two kissing (I think in this one you'd be the one initiating) 

-Or, referencing a previous post of mine, you doing well in a race and while celebrating together (or rather her tackling you immediately after), with everything just feeling perfect, when one of you finally makes the move (In this one it would probably be her initiating)

-I do think that she has some experience, not a crazy lot, but a bit, she knows what she's doing 

-The kiss is as energetic as her, with as much love as a train can give! It's still sweet sweet, not the most gentle, but definitely sweet

-she'd be giggling after, with her forehead against you, all the stereotypical sweet stuff, and if it's in a more private setting, she'd steal a second kiss a few seconds after, if you let her :)

With a local festival coming up, Dinah had volunteered to bake cupcakes, and as her loving partner, she invited you over to help! You had the shed to yourself, the other coaches all being busy with preparations themselves. It started out as any other time, laying out the ingredients, the occasional laugh, pre-heating the oven, before ending in the unavoidable flour fight. And now here you are, covered on flour, giggling, while simply enjoying each others presence. Though you can't help but just admire her for a second, the way the white flour looks almost like highlights in her hair, the wide smile on her face, as her laugh echos around the room. As you move to ruffle some flour out of her hair, your eyes wander to her lips, and after one quick look to wordlessly ask for consent, your lips are on hers, the cupcakes completely forgotten

Greaseball

-Refuses to be the small spoon, thinks it would make her seem weak

-Likes to just hold you, really. Her personal favourite is the two of you laying down somewhere, you laying on her chest with her arms around you!  Basic, but good :) plus, this way she gets to use you as a weighted blanket; something she didn't know she needed

-Falls asleep pretty fast. The moment you two lay/sit down, and you're comfortably in her arms, she's out like a light. 

-She always claims that she's just tired after a day of hard work, but really she finds cuddling with you oddly comforting, like she can just escape her busy schedule for a bit

-Has a death grip on you, once she's asleep, you aren't going anywhere. I also believe her to be a deep sleeper, so waking her up isn't easy either (she'd also be moody if woken up)

-Despite that, if you do manage to escape her grip, for whatever reason, she is up within the minute, and she is not happy. Will hunt you down, especially if it's already late out, and drag you back to your cuddle spot, probably while grumbling something incohesive

-Another type of cuddle she likes is to just come up behind you randomly throughout the day, wrap her arms around you, and not let go till she has to go back to work

-Doesn't care if you're in a conversation with someone, you're her partner! She doesn't even pretend to care about the conversation; if the other person asks what she's doing or tries to include her in the conversation, she will just stare them down

-You'd have to be the one to tell her you don't want to cuddle at the moment, she'd act annoyed and grumble about it, but ultimately respect your wishes

--she just really enjoys holding you, it makes her feel like your protector :)

Electra

-While they're more reserved in public, in private they're as affectionate as can be!

-Always has to be touching you in some way when it's just you two, or when the only ones around are their components, so they're always happy to cuddle 

-While they don't mind being the little spoon, they prefer to be the big spoon - they enjoy holding you a lot, it makes them feel important. It also shows them that you have a certain level of trust in them :) 

-I don't think they're the type to fall asleep while cuddling, they much prefer to give their attention to you; talking about nothing in specific, maybe discussing the newest gossip, simply relaxing in each others arms..

-Don't worry about falling asleep yourself, though! again, to them it simply shows how much trust you have in them! They also adore how peaceful you look asleep - simply adorable in their opinion

-They'd admire your sleeping form, perhaps run a hand through your hair.. and while they won't fall asleep themself, they'll use the moment to relax a bit, closing their eyes and just enjoying the peace and quiet - which seems to be something very rare in this chaos of a yard

-Starlight forbid someone tries to wake you up, though. They already hate it when others interrupt you two - but if they might wake you? Nothing a small electric shock, of varying strength depending on who it is, and a mean glare, can't fix though 

-The only time they'll fall asleep while cuddling, is if you're cuddling at night, and even then they're probably awake before you. Chances are, you won't ever see them sleep, unless you got a very messed up sleep schedule or get up before the crack of dawn

-If you're okay with it, the components may occasionally join your little cuddle sessions! Usually after a especially rough day, could range from just one or two, to all of you creating a straight up cuddle pile. But if you want it to just be you and Electra, they completely respect that

-The amount of cuddles would increase in the winter - especially if you aren't a electric, and therefore naturally produce warmth! Electrics don't produce any heat, so the winter is even crueler to them, than it is already are to everyone else; and cuddling, especially somewhere cozy, just happens to be a very nice way to warm up :)

-If you're a steam engine, or in other words literally run on fire, they would just not let go of you in the winter

-Literally the sweetest, will take any chance she can get to be affectionate with you! 

-Another one that doesn't care whether she is the little or the big spoon, though she is more used to being the little spoon

-I would recommend letting her, at least occasionally, be the big spoon, though! especially after a rough day, her hold is really comforting!

-But no matter how you two are cuddled up, it is always a really soft and sweet moment; you two are usually talking about whatever comes to mind - anything from a deep discussion about the state of the world, to planning your next date, nothings off the table :)

-While she claims not to have a favourite cuddle position, she adores it whenever you two are cuddled up on the couch, with a warm drink in hand, and her head on your shoulder. Bonus points if it's in the winter, and you two are quietly watching the snow fall

-doesn't really care if anyone walked in on you two cuddling, she's very open about her affection for you, and she would love it if you are two!

- She's the type to randomly just stare at you while cuddling, with nothing but love in her eyes - if you ask her why, she'll simply say that she's wondering how she got so lucky :)

-She would also randomly attack you with kisses - a bunch of small pecks wherever she can reach, before finishing with a final peck on the lips, and giggling about it; especially if you blush because of it, she loves making you blush!

-However, if you respond in kind she'll be redder than her hair! ;) 

-One of her dream dates would be the two of you watching stars together, while cuddling on a picnic blanket! Maybe you were watching the sunset together beforehand, maybe as a spontaneous idea.. all she really cares about is your time together 

-If you're a racer, she'll give you a hug before and after every race, that lasts long enough to might as well be considered cuddling! If you actually win a race, or even just place on the podium, she'll almost tackle you in the excitement! 

Rusty

- All you could ever wish for in the winter, and your worst nightmare in the summer

-Seriously, Steam engines run hot! it would be like sleeping right next to the fire place, or cuddling with a living, really warm, heating pad

-You'd probably end up still cuddling in the summer, because he loves being close to you, but it would be more you holding onto his arm - he wants to get closer, but understands you not wanting to overheat

-...also the first few nights, during your first summer together, he probably thought he did something to upset you, and that's why you don't want to cuddle, and you just couldn't stand that sad look of his 

-It's a whole different story during winter, though! You'd probably be the one holding onto him all day! and he wouldn't mind at all, were it not for work

-But the moment he's off the clock, he's speeding directly into your arms :)

- You guys would end up in all kinds of different cuddle positions, all your limbs usually tangled by the end of it

-I don't think he has a favourite position, nor does he care about being the big or the little spoon, he just wants to be as close as possible to you. He isn't exactly used to being this loved, so he'll take anything he can get

-continuing with my last point, when you guys cuddled for the first time, he was really awkward. He didn't know where to put his limbs, or how he should hold you - or if he should hold you at all!

-you'd have to have given him a lot of pointers, and take charge of getting comfortable for the first few times you guys cuddled. After he got the hang of it, though? Absolute cuddle bug, he never wants to let go of you

-If you cuddle at night, getting up in the morning would be really hard for him. Why should he get up and go to work, when he can stay here, cuddled up to you? He contemplates calling in sick every time

-Similarly, getting home from work and falling into your arms is like a reward, one that he looks forward to every day!

--He really just loves being close to you!
