Aphrodite Antheia translates to Friend of Flowers, referencing the goddess Antheia, (Antheia, was as well an attendee of Aphrodite.) Then there is Aphrodite Cepois, Aphrodite of the gardens. Now, these can be honoured in many ways, even day to day life, and I am here to tell you how. 💐

Heres a few, fine ways on how to worship these lovely epithets of hers 🦢

Personally, I get her roses, or peonies when in bloom as an offering. Too, devotionally, I wear a veil with flower patterns. And, I occasionally get my vase and water flowers outside. 🦢

𝑯𝒆𝒃𝒆, 𝑮𝒐𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 🪞

Hebe, goddess of youth, believe it or not, is a close associate of Aphrodite! Hebe is believed to deliver ambrosia to the Gods and help with things such as getting them into chariots. She is an attendant of Aphrodite!

𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒍

While Chamomile is not directly associated to Aphrodite in Greek mythology, it is believed to have been used in oil recipes for Aphrodite, and so is it in modern times for not only devotional oils but also teas. — Basil is believed to be a herb of beauty, used in rituals dedicated to Aphrodite. Herb of beauty, hence, a symbol of Aphrodite!

𝑱𝒂𝒔𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒏𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔

Jasmine is strongly connected to Aphrodite, as its attributes are: Love, beauty, purity. It is also an aphrodisiac, and many things that are an aphrodisiac have ties to have been used in rituals dedicated to Aphrodite. As for Anemones, it is simple! These beautiful flowers sprung from the ground where Aphrodite wept when Adonis took his last breath.

𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏 & 𝑪𝒐𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒓 🌊

Carnelian is believed to carry the power to couple lovers, as well as to strengthen relationships. If you are praying to Aphrodite for love or strengthening your connection to a certain someone, you can definitely use carnelian! As for copper, copper was used on the island of Cyprus (Where Aphrodite was born) in mirror making. Mirrors are a symbol of Aphrodite! And, Cyprus was and is rich in copper.

1. 𝑨𝒑𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒆, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒓 𝒈𝒐𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒔.

Aphrodite is often referred to as a love goddess, but the Spartans viewed her the armed, with a spear, warlike love goddess. Areia, Enchois, and Hoplisleme. Aphrodite Areia is a very complex epithet of hers indeed. A belief has been sparked. Inanna, Middle East goddess of war and love, someone thought war and sex go together. Inanna is a close ancestor to Aphrodite, so it does make sense, yes? Love is a never ending war. If Aphrodite bestows love, so quickly she can take it away.

2. 𝐇𝗼𝐰 𝐝𝗼 𝐢 𝐡𝗼𝐧𝗼𝐮𝐫 𝐚��𝐡𝐫𝗼𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝗼𝐟 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬?

Okay. See what I did there? The areia epithet was also believed to be “Of Ares.” Not to get more off track, let’s dive into it. She was honoured in battlefields and by warriors in Sparta, but how do I honour this heavy epithet of Aphrodite? Well, firstly…

Hymns, yes. Pray to her as a war goddess! Dress up with confidence and dedicate the outfit to her. Work on yourself, feel GOOD about yourself. Dance in her honour, put the WORK into it. Pray for confidence! Drown yourself in perfume that screams “Mistress”. Aphrodite is not all gentle and sweet treats, (even though I love that side of her), but a confident, leader goddess in war. Random small thoughts: Get her small trinket spears! She was honoured Aphrodite with a spear, afterall, no? Get her some red poppies, considered a flower of the ones whom lost their lives to war.

3. 𝐀 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝗼𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢 𝗺𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝗼𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐫 -- 𝐭𝗼 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐲𝗼𝐮 𝐢𝗺𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫!

1. 𝐈𝗺𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝗼𝐟 𝐩𝗼𝗺𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 & 𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚.

Pomegranates, Aphrodite, and inanna. As I’ve explained previously, the Pomegranate is a fruit of inanna, symbolising fertility as it does for Aphrodite. Inanna imagery is also included, as she’s believed to be a reason why Aphrodite exists as a war goddess. 🩸

2. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝗼𝗺𝐞𝐧

In honour of Aphrodite Enchois, Aphrodite with a spear, I believe it makes more than sense to involve imagery of spears and armour! As well, imagery of women, I’ve wanted to include for her connection to women, and how women were also sent to war. 🦢

3. 𝐑𝗼𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐞𝗺𝐬 𝗼𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝗼𝐫𝐧𝗺𝐞𝐧𝐭

I have included imagery of royalty in the collage as you can see. This is meant to represent power, leading, especially her epithet Hegomene, “Leader”! And, items of self adornment, of course, also meant to represent power. Courage, beauty, modern royalty. 💄

4. 𝐅𝐥𝗼𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝗼𝐫𝐬

As you can see, multiple flowers like Red Poppies and Roses are added on there! As I’ve stated, red poppies are the flower of warriors whom have lost their lives to war. I find this very fitting for the areia epithet of Aphrodite! And the imagery of warriors sets the theme just right. 🗡️

𝑰𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏…

Aphrodite was venerated in battle fields by the Spartans. Worshipped as Aphrodite the war-like (Areia), Aphrodite with a spear, (Enchois) and Armed Aphrodite (Hoplisleme) and Aphrodite of the army (Strateia). The areia epithet is believed to also translate to “Of Ares.” Most likely, the reason Aphrodite is venerated a war goddess is due to her connections to the Middle East goddesses inanna, Ishtar, and Astarte — including watery births and pomegranate. Today, you can worship her for courage and confidence, or for protection if you have a loved one on the battlefield. Hail Her. 💄

This is a devotional collage to Aphrodite anadyomene, Aphrogeneia, and Cypris. A few sneaky additions I’ve added are the figs, known an Aphrodisiac and a fruit of hers, divine themes, and flowers that are less commonly associated with Her! Many devotees have specific days, weeks, or months that they honour Aphrodite on. I have my own weekly calendar of rituals! Here’s a little list.

many people celebrate Venus day! Though, does that mean you can’t make your own special rituals? No! Take me as an example. Here, a small idea I’ve thought of — Worship Aphrodite for her Areia epithet on Tuesday, or Aphrodite and ares on Tuesday.

2 -- 𝐇𝐲𝗺𝐧𝐬 & 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 🪞

Okay, so! For the Orphic hymns, I either listen to them while I cook up offerings for Aphrodite or sing them. Or just listen to them in my free time. I pray the Orphic hymn too! singing and dancing can be a greatttt devotional act to any Deity, actually. Zeus, Dionysus, Aphrodite, you name it!

3 --𝐀𝐫𝐭 & 𝐀𝐩𝐡𝐫𝗼𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐞

Arts and crafts, yes! Art can be a beautiful way to sugar up your practice. And crafts which make offerings, Aphrodite (or any deity in general) will love it! Here’s a few ways I incorporate art into my practice!

Alright! For the candles one, I take a tea candle and customise it to my liking. Putting cinnamon powder on it, carving “Aphrodite” into the wax, etc! i like to paint Aphrodite too. You can paint digitally if you do not have access to supplies like paint!

Food Offerings;

Apples with Cinnamon Apples with cinnamon can be a great offering to Aphrodite. But how exactly do I prepare this? Okay. Firstly, get yourself a bowl or a plate. Cut your apple into slices and get your cinnamon powder — if you’re feeling extra, put a stick of cinnamon or sugar cinnamon on top. Or, cinnamon sugar can actually replace the whole cinnamon thing powder!

Honeyed orange Slices This is very simple as well! Okay. Repeat, get your plate/bowl and cut up orange slices. Now you’re gonna take a knife, dip it into honey, and spread it over the exposed slices, not the skin. Makes it easier to handle!

Sugared Strawberries Again, yes. Do the first previous step, and get your strawberries! You’re gonna want to cut off the stems, and sprinkle sugar over them. Oh, and, you can just give the strawberries to Aphrodite with a small bowl of sugar and say “Sugar them as you’d like”!

Any kinds of chocolate 💞! even simpler. You can place the chocolate on her altar, and let it be, or you can go fancier and place it on a small plate! Maybe decorate as well. With some rose petals!

Figs — those lovely fruits. Yes, figs! Now, you can either serve her a whole one or the insides. Anything like that works, they are a natural aphrodisiac thus a symbolism of her.

Aphrodite — Baking, Cooking 🍓

Okay, firstly. Women in Ancient Greece were not known to invoke Aphrodite when it came to cooking, neither was Aphrodite herself associated with cooking. Hestia was the woman for that — but does that mean YOU can’t invoke Aphrodite when it comes to this? a of course not! So… I’m here to show you how 🍓

When it comes to Cooking 🧑‍🍳 You can include Aphrodite in your cooking by playing soothing music like Orphic hymn to Aphrodite, Queenie or Lana Del Rey. Or just…any romantic, gentle music you’d like. Light some incense, love is in the air! O, and, perhaps share some of the food! okay, now, into the COOKING part. Serve oysters — they are believed an aphrodisiac and have been for years. Also raw or not! Use cinnamon and vanilla in your cooking however you’d like. Oh and perhaps, even sugar! Or honey, somehow. Use a fig in your cooking however you’d like to!

When it comes to Baking 🍒. Okay! Here comes the fun part~! Baked goods, jams, honey, cakes, honey cakes, cookies, YES! Venusian energy! Okay… when it comes to baked goods, make SURE to use honey, cinnamon sugar, cinnamon powder, and vanilla. Serve with cherries, figs, or strawberries. Apple pies — yes, yes. Apples are believed a fruit of love, dedicated to Aphrodite. Jams — make sure to use mentioned fruits. Whole list of these are: figs, strawberries, cherries, red currants, apples. Use rose petals to decorate your goods!

Aphrodite — Her history, equivalents, and connections. 🗡️🍒

Intro So, as we all know, the goddess Aphrodite, ruling over domains of love and beauty, has many connections to other goddesses, explaining her symbols or even domains. 

- Middle East goddesses 

Firstly, where does this idea of her being a love-war goddess come from? well, lets go back to the Middle East. There, lay 3 goddess, Ishtar, Astarte, and Inanna. The love war goddesses of the Middle East. As Bethany Hughes once quoted, “Someone back then thought sex and violence went together.” 

Ishtar, Astarte, and Inanna were told to be young beauties, seducing many. Inanna is the one whom comes closest to Aphrodite in terms of connection and similarity! You see, inanna rules over fertility, love, and war. All align with Aphrodite. The others, ishtar and Astarte, align — with domains like sexuality coming into play. Sumerian goddesses, may have been seen as singular, (due to their very similar domains and powers), also had political power, like how Aphrodite does. Oh, and, inanna is associated with Venus!

Roman Counterpart

| Venus, the Roman counterpart of the greek Aphrodite is often mixed up with her. They are both very similar goddesses, but not one. What makes em different, you might ask? Well, Venus had more motherly attributes. While Aphrodite has the epithet of Nikephoros (triumph-bringing), Venus holds even more power over victory and battle. Venus is heavily inspired off of Aphrodite, (I don’t want to say copied,) and so was her famous myth of Aphrodite and Adonis. The Greek tale of the two lovers, became a part of Venus’s mythology too. Venus and Adonis. Genius, am I right?

Lady of Lemba

| Lady of Lemba, (or, Lemba lady, Venus of Lemba) is a Cyprian… statue? Or a goddess? Spirit of fertility? Well, let’s break it down. Lady of Lemba is a statue, (approximately 36 cm) found in Cyprus. She has over exaggerated hips, breasts, and in some tells she is said to be pregnant. As well, we know that pregnant, over exaggerated features were produces in tons here. Well, fertility & pregnancy as a domain, check. We don’t KNOW if she’s a goddess or a spirit. So, statue of feminine power — yes, safe term, a goddess — a hypothetical term, a spirit — Sure, we can call her that. In summary, we know… She’s a symbol of pregnancy, birth, and fertility. She MAY have been used in rituals, like a deity of those domains listed above. Her statue is made out of limestone and was found on Cyprus. Her names are: Lemba Lady, Lady of Lemba, Venus of Lemba. She is a symbol of Cyprus. She was discovered laying on her back with other, smaller statues. In early maternity wards, shaded by olive trees, it’s very likely statues of her laid there.

“but… how is she tied to Aphrodite ?”

Taking the domains of fertility and motherhood, (as well as those beautiful features), many call her an ancestor of Aphrodite. It is very likely, as well as how they were both found in Cyprus. Aphrodite — Food offerings 🍒

🪞 Introduction. In Ancient Greece, Food offerings to deities and Aphrodite specifically were a must. To her, specifically, treats that resonated with her domains were most offered. What do these include, specifically? Glad you asked! Here’s a few, with meanings.

Apples ~ apples are known the fruit of Aphrodite, ripe ones symbolising love. The Greeks devoted it to her, explaining why it’s the apple of Aphrodite, Venus, and love.

Chocolates ~ Sweet treats were a very usual offering to gods like Aphrodite, Venus, Eros, persephone, etc. In Aphrodites case, it aligns with her domains. Also, she’s said to have a sweet tooth!

honey ~ Greeks told the goddess a sweet one, and so is honey! Actually, I have a small amount of honey on my own altar. It’s a simple, lovely offerings.

Fruits like strawberries, pomegranates, and cherries ~ We all know pomegranates are a fruit of Persephone, but it’s a fruit of fertility, so an amazing offering to Aphrodite. Or Venus, if that’s whom you worship. Cherries, personally in my practice I involve them with her too! Strawberries are a common offerings, as they’re sweet.

Now, a note — please check on your food offerings. Letting them mold can be seen as disrespectful! 💞

🦢 Libations. libations were a big part of Hellenic polytheism and still are! Drinks like tea, coffee (to some) and sweet drinks are perfect! For Aphrodite, here’s a small list!

Aphrodite — a devotional outfit 🌊

An outfit dedicated to Aphrodite can be an amazing way to devote yourself to Her and show it as well! Here’s ways to do so 🏹

🦢 Veiling. veiling can be an AMAZING way to devote yourself to Aphrodite, or any divine in the Greek pantheon in general! But, should you aim for a specific veil that screams her? You can, but it’s not a necessity! anything should do. A bandana, a cap, a veil! I personally wear a beige veil with flowers, and drape it over my head & shoulders. I also use headpins to secure it. 🙌

💄 Perfume & Makeup. Hey, Aphrodite is the goddess of beauty! But, does that mean you HAVE to wear make-up for her? No! no! (She doesn’t make you beautiful, she makes you feel beautiful.) it’s a thing you choose. Personally I wear lipgloss for her! And onto the perfume, for me, it’s an everyday thing showing my devotion. But if you can’t afford it, or just can’t for some reason, you don’t have to! 🫶

🕊️ Hairstyles. Aphrodite is often portrayed with multiple, and very unique hairstyles! Either let your hair loose and feel the freedom, feel absolutely adorned with a novel bun, or royal with braid(s)!

🍒 Jewels. Jewels. Which Aphrodite is adorned with! The Horae did so for her when preparing her for the throne of Olympus. Honour Aphrodite by perhaps wearing antique earrings, or a handmade rose quartz bracelet, or a beautiful necklace you bought in her honour, or oh, an anklet !

🌊 Lastly….

Just feel pretty.

Aphrodite; Lovers and Children of Hers 🦢 101

This post will cover all about her sons, daughters , husband(s), lovers, etc! Dive in ❤️

Lovers. Aphrodite, goddess of love of all kinds, obviously has a list of lovers. This includes immortals and mortals. From Adonis to Ares, here’s a small list of divine lovers.

Ares. Ares is the god of war, and the lover of Aphrodite. At the time when they united, Aphrodite was still married to Hephaestus. Ares is known as Aphrodites one and true love.

Hermes. hermes, the god of speed and travel, also had a thing with Aphrodite. They’re not a very popular pair, though.

Dionysus. Aphrodite also had a brief affair with the god of wine. Hera, angered by her many lovers, (as a goddess of marriage), cursed her and Dionysus with an ugly child.

While we are on the section of lovers, let me tell you about her husband(s)!

Husband. Aphrodite only had one, (unfortunate, as the myth states) husband, whom is Hephaestus. She was often unfaithful to him, with her new found love ares. The two never actually had children, most likely due to their unhappy marriage — Hephaestus divorced her after he caught her with ares.

Mortal Lovers. Now, let’s talk about the multiple mortal lovers Aphrodite has had held a relationship with.

Adonis. Many know they myth of Aphrodite and Adonis — where they’re a heart felt couple, until a boar (said to be ares) attacked Adonis brutally. Aphrodite ran to him, cutting her beautiful legs in the process. They both bled out onto the quartz below, forming rose quartz! That’s why it’s the stone of love <3

Anchises. Anchises is also one of Aphrodites mortal lovers. In some versions, Zeus cursed Aphrodite to fall in love with a mortal (As, said, Anchises) since she made too many gods fall in love. Aphrodite fell in love with him, deeply! They slept together, and had a son, Aeneas. Though, Anchises feared the wrath of the gods. Mortals were punished when having slept with the divine…

Little things to do in order to honour Aphrodite 🦢

Make a love candle

This is a very simple one! Some ingredients you might want to use are: Cinnamon, (in a powder form), vanilla, (same as cinnamon), rose quartz chips, petals from flowers like daisies, roses, etc, wax/oil (if you want it to stick) , and a tea light. Here are the instructions!

Grab your tealight and coat it lightly in oil.

Coat it in wax (if you want to.)

First, add cinnamon/vanilla powder on top.

Optional, but grab your rose quartz chips and add a few.

Last up, sprinkle some herbs, or petals onto it. You’ve got yourself a nice, devotional candle!

A cup of tea

Now hey, it doesn’t have to be all boring! Here’s a small guide on how to make a nice, cozy, whimsical cup of tea in honour of the goddess 🤲🏼🍵

First, boil your water.

Add your cinnamon/vanilla powder to the water and stir. (If the cinnamon doesn’t completely dissolve at first, that’s fine! It’ll do so when it boils!)

Add a few petals of either rose or other sensual flowers associated with her. (But, don’t add in randomly plucked petals from the outside — make sure they’re safe to use.)

When you pour, make sure you grab a nice, divine teabag. Flavours i recommend; Cherry, Strawberry, Fig, and cranberry.

For the witchy Hellenic polytheists — you can stir clockwise with intention of attracting love, healing, happiness, and more aligning with those.

I personally drink my devotional tea either when reading about Aphrodite, infront of my altar, or also infront of my altar but actively speaking to Aphrodite. It can be done in silence if you wish.

Writing Letters

Writing letters, either to yourself, Her, or a crush — it counts. All you need, is a piece of paper, and ink. But, you may wanna make this process a little more whimsical… 🩷 here are ways to do so!

writing under a pretty tree, or near a bush, allowing yourself to bask in Her glory.

With the letter, comes a flower.

Kiss it.

Pour your heart into it!
