hey!! so i'm sorry if this is weird or anything but i'm obsessed with your concept of matthew finding an elly down the line and i was wondering if you'd be okay with others drawing fanart of that / coming up with a design based on what you established (with full credit of course)! totally fine if not i just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask :]

(also while i'm here i just want to say those doodles you did of nikol and glimmer's dynamic are very special to me i think about them a lot i just can't find them on tumblr 😔 HOWEVER they're wonderful and i wanted to let you know)

yesss i would love to see it :)!! in my head i think i pictured elly as having a core crystal but perhaps to make it more of a star crossed lovers situation she should be human/come from keves. though keves could be a reference to kislev xenogears which elly is working against…. So maybe it doesn’t fit. I do think she should at least not be a cat person just to switch it up with matthew being one. hmmmm i gotta draw this more now.

i wanted them to have unique designs. they deserve it (individual + notes under the cut!)

Linka:

It was honestly really hard to figure out how to balance both Zeke and Pandoria in this one given how much she just resembles Pandoria over him period but ultimately I just leaned more into that anyways

I wanted the shape of her sleeves to be kinda? like Pandoria's shoulders and I decided to add the heart details and the star chain + make those same stars present elsewhere too

However the fact is she presents as Much more levelheaded than both of them so I wanted that to be clear as well with a less showy design than her parents, and as she was raised by Rex I gave her whatever hip thing Rex has going on just to include some of her will to emulate him

Her belt I took some vague inspiration from Zeke for the shapes and it let me add a bit more of the green to counter all of the sort of Pandoria pink

I think she deserves sparkly freckles and a good place to put Turters (who is definitely there with her I will take no criticism there) on her shoulder in the raised collar

I'm probably forgetting some things. ultimately the shapes came more from Rex even outside of the wrap thing but the colors from her parents

Panacea:

Like Linka she does show more influence from her mother than her father so I kept that consistent with the shape of her boots and top and gloves and belt things

She's always very like conscious of how best to help people though so I wanted her to have plenty of room in her pockets for first aid type things and maybe emergency rations, hence why I also gave her a pouch instead of making it symmetrical there

Like both of her parents she gets to have her midriff out. good for her i think she deserves to show off a little personally. and honestly the only Clear influence I took from Reyn otherwise is the shape on her left leg's belt being from his outfit but she's not a very Showy person otherwise so the colors are all pretty consistent and not very bold

Obviously looks up to Shulk Immensely considering he raised her and she really does care to follow in his footsteps, so I gave her a cape to mirror his :]

My biggest thing was making sure she looks like she belongs next to Linka though since they are in similar positions and were raised together, I feel like they compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses well and even outside of their respective mentors they probably did learn more than they'd show from the others; for Panacea, Rex's training habits and harsher demeanor covering up a truly caring and gentle side, and for Linka, Shulk's penchant for research and habit of presenting more calculating if not a bit cold to make sure they're not worried about

I'm also probably forgetting some things with this one but. man they should've at LEAST gotten unique designs if not more screentime and a more productive role in the story 😭 I loved the cutscene in the beginning of chapter 3 where they took down W with their mentors and Matthew they should've gotten to do more outside of optional sidequests after that I think
