Mini Task 1 - Antonia Guzmán and Josefa Mella - Section 3

She is Ahn Hye Jin also known as Hwasa, she is a korean singer from the girl group Mamamoo. Today she is one of the most popular and talented singers in the Korean industry but she was discriminated by her looks since her pre-debut days till now.

To be a singer in Korea you have to go through auditions to be accepted in a company. Hwasa was rejected by many companies and their excuses were “you are really unique and sing very well, but you’re fat and not pretty”, after that she found support in Beyoncé. She admired her, so after seeing a video of her performing she said “I want to be like her and I will be like her”. After working really hard she was able to make her debut and since then she encouraged her fans to love themselves and not change for anyone. She is now known as one of the idols with the most powerful stage presence, demonstrating that you don’t need to fit in the model to feel good with yourself. We can have this kind of conversation in the classroom, her story can encourage teenagers who are trying to fit in the different standards made by society to find inspiration and change their goals. Being able to love yourself ignoring what others have to say about you. They will learn how your life can get better when you start focusing on yourself and your own well being.

These types of activities can have a positive impact, by knowing these types of realities they can feel familiar with the problem. It helps them understand that the insecurities they have are just a social construction, made by false stereotypes and that no matter what others or society says, they can be successful just as they are.

My Process of Critical thinking has improved a lot thanks to university, before this I could not consider myself as one hundred percent critical thinker. As I said before university has been a very good support and complement to my learning process of Critical thinking. For example, last week we were able to learn, read and discuss in class about our process of CT, also the activities were a very useful tool. I created a Venn diagram that helps me to understand and compare the different models of CT, so this definitely helped me to acquire knowledge and understand more about this framework of CT.

Each one of these things helped me a lot to increase my knowledge and finally, as a challenge regarding my development process as a critical thinker, I have to be more self-confident and understand that I am going to learn step by step. With all this knowledge that I have acquired this last week now I know that I'm a little bit more prepared to go through the process of CT.

If you asked me a month ago if I considered myself a critical thinker I would definitely say no, but now I feel more confident about my processing skills and my ability to create my own insights and opinion. During this last month I’ve been learning a lot of things about critical thinking, for example I discussed with my classmates about what it means to be a critical thinker. I also made a mind map with the differences between Magolda and Mabor’s model, that helped me a lot to understand the stages of critical thinking. In addition I listened to a podcast and learned about the benefits of using critical thinking. In conclusion, I think that I improved a lot in terms of being more critical, but still I need to be capable of using critical thinking in every aspect of my life and not only when someone asks me to.

Hi, I am Antonia and I am a student of pedagogy in English, which has helped me a lot to develop and increase my knowledge and together with this my development as a critical thinker, I believe that I am in the process of being a CT, because this is an entire and complex process, where we have to analyze and collect information to later have a good synthesis of the subject and many times this is affected by the instantaneous thoughts that we have and also when we think we can have two options, immediate answers or we can begin to develop critical thinking. There are still situations in which I can’t reason and analyze everything quickly and calmly, on the other hand, my partner is capable of reasoning and acting more calmly in certain situations, so she does consider herself a CT,so for this reason I cannot consider myself one hundred percent CT, I still have spontaneous thoughts,in some situations, or some specific context where I do not reason or analyze so much. This is why I think I am on my way to being a critical thinker . . .

Hello, my name is Josefa Mella Cifuentes and I have been learning about Critical Thinking during this last week and with all the knowledge that I already have I can say that I don't consider myself as a fully critical thinker. The first reason is because critical thinkers are faster when it comes to identified the problem and in my case is really difficult to organize my ideas, another reason it is that critical thinkers’s process skills are more developed than mine and lastly, my partner said in her audio that critical thinkers tend to think more calmly most of the time in order to have a logical and stable process of thinking and I definitely need to incorporate that ability when it comes to think in a critical way. In conclusion, I don’t consider myself a critical thinker yet, I have a lot to improve (starting with my processing skills) and I need to practice more so I can call myself a critical thinker in the future.
