“Hi, how are ya?” Meet the turtle frog (Myobatrachus gouldii)! While this critter is all frog, it gets its name for resembling a turtle with no shell. Besides its peculiar looks, it’s also unique for being one of the few frog species to skip the tadpole stage. Embryos fully develop in the egg and hatch as frogs! The Japanese emperor or great purple emperor (Sasakia charonda), is a species of butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, northern Taiwan and northern Vietnam. The caterpillar of the species (above) feed on hackberries.  (x x x)

Why do honey bee dicks explode, also do any other hymenopterans do this thing?

The endophallus and the tests of drones explode due to the force of the ejaculation. Once a drone has inserted the endophallus into the queen, it ejaculates which is explosive, so that the semen is propelled up the queen and into the oviduct. The force generated as the drone ejaculates causes their testes and endophallus to rupture, the force is large that the human ear can actually hear it (it sounds like a small pop!). The endophallus therefore disconnects, leaving the drone to fall from the sky and die shortly after.

This allows for the bulb of the endophallus to stay in the queen and acts as a plug to keep the semen inside, it doesn’t however prevent other drones from mating with the queen.

The egg is so large that in the last few days before laying it there is no space left inside the mother for food. She is forced to fast.
