Me rambling under the cut

Primarily, this is another CaitVi fic. Light cannon is included, and though they’re not the stars of the show, they do play an important role in the story.

This fic was created under the following premises:

The easiest way to construct a CaitVi fic is (1) give Vi Issues and (2) let Caitlyn help. Because she likes helping lol

Vi and Jinx are similar in many ways, but deal with attachment insecurity differently. In the show, Jinx is seen readily reaching for attachment with Vi and Silco and lashing out when she feels slighted, whereas Vi simply pushes Caitlyn away or runs when she doesn’t see their relationship possible

Because of that, I think that in a modern au, where Jinx and Vi are still somewhat close (and they are a lot less traumatized), Jinx would be more likely find and attempt a romantic relationship simply because she wouldn’t avoid it altogether

The conflict in this fic is Jinx/Vi’s shared cynical outlook on life, and how they navigate it now that they're presented with people who could make it different. For Jinx, this means finding someone who won't abandon her, and for Vi, this means finding anyone at all.  Jinx somehow ends up in some insane, fun relationship with Lux, and when Vi sees them, she suddenly realizes that perhaps there is a future where she doesn’t end up alone, Caitlyn willing. (She is more than willing.) The question is how she’s supposed to pursue a relationship with Caitlyn without her own cynicism getting in the way and despite Cait’s plans for law school.

This fic has been floating around abstractly in my head since sometime last year, when I was doing really bad during finals lol. I started off by writing the scene where Vi finally tells Caitlyn that she loves her in the third chapter under the premise - Vi probably wouldn't have the balls to tell Caitlyn she loved her unless she was kinda drunk and everyone was doing bad huh - and worked my way both backward and forward from there. The opening bridge scene was written, then Powder asking Vi why they didn't have parents, and I progressed forward thinking, "ugh this is too depressing manic lesbians Jinx and Lux come save me." The rest kind of wrote itself if I'm being honest. The story continuously weaves through themes of cynicism, the future, being alone, hope, and home. By the end of it, we see Vi on a bridge yet again, this time with Caitlyn, because I'm a fucking loser for parallelism.

Thanks for reading the fic and this long-ass post! I still have ideas in the back of my head. A friend and I have been talking about our shared transmasc experiences and how we’d want it adapted into CaitVi fic, so there’s that on the radar. I’m also wanting more horny cringe-fail transfemme Caitlyn in the universe, so I kind of want to write that because I think it'd be funny and I'm tired of writing angst. Timebomb has also been grabbing my attention lately, which seems like a good way to dive further into Jinx’s head.
