During the last 6 months i have created dozens of new images but this is not one of them. The new work has been sitting in my hard drive. I have lacked the desire to review it for printing or posting it, and I have lacked the desire to transform it into mixed media art. I think seeing so much tragedy in the real world has made me feel like we don’t need any more drama through art. But my art has drama. Even my cityscapes have it and I feel like i need a brake from it. Whatever dark or disruptive force was coming through my art is on hold. Like many other things are on hold right now. So I have been focusing my energy on different creative projects, but they are not art. I don’t know when I will feel like working again or showing the work i made. For as long as people think they do not have to wear a mask, keep their distance, stop hanging out with friends, the virus will continue to infect and kill more people. This is not about politics, it’s about everyone’s life and livelihood. The more people get sick the less chances there will be for the economy to get back to normal. Let’s face it and do our part. “We Will Prevail” Most of my women images are created through a process of paper collage and photomontage. I never start with a specific idea, I simply set things up so that interesting “accidents” and combinations can happen. This piece came together with several other about 6 weeks ago, when the reality of Corona Virus kicked in, as we were asked to stay home. . I saved it but did not want to share it because of its dramatic undertone. I thought I should try to make more uplifting art instead. But uplifting does not mean happy-looking, I am not inspired to make happy-looking art. My art is about resilience, overcoming obstacles and this is exactly how this piece makes me feel.
