"if i was orpheus i would simply not turn around" yes you would. if you were orpheus and you loved eurydice, you would. to love someone is to turn around. to love someone is to look at them. whichever version of the myth — he hears her stumble, he can't hear her at all, he thinks he's been tricked — he turns around because he loves her. that's why it's a tragedy. because he loves her enough to save her. because he loves her so much he can't save her. because he will always, always turn around. "if i was orpheus i would simply —" you wouldn't be orpheus. you wouldn't be brave enough to walk into the underworld and save the person you love. be serious

i'm sorry i just saw a tweet of someone saying "jjk is the best shonen because characters actually face consequences for their bad decisions" in response to nobara's death and i'm flabbergasted. why is it heroic and admirable when every other (male) protagonist decides to risk their lives to keep fighting an opponent but when it's nobara it's "she fucked around and found out lol" and "it's so cool because the point of the show is that death is meaningless"....... huh????? what even is the point of jjk if it's not about the tragedy of sacrificing innocent lives in the process of saving others? don't we think of geto and sukuna as antagonists because they also see death as meaningless?? nobara's death (if she's actually dead) isn't edgy and philosophical -- it's just bad storytelling. she has unfinished business and the way she died was so sudden there was no emotional build-up, no narrative significance aside from shock value, no real impact on the other characters (whether characters actually have any space to mourn and grieve in jjk is whole other essay...)
i recognize that i'm merely facing the consequences for my bad decision of getting involved in anitwt but if i see another person sully nobara's good name with their piss poor takes i'm going to whip out the straw doll technique

i love calling literally any media that i dislike “masturbatory.” it just feels so scathing and satisfying. masturbatory, navel-gazing, self-indulgent, cloying, vapid, and hollow. an utterly pointless exercise in shock and spectacle from a spoiled, coked-up narcissist playing dress-up as an artist. god that felt good

yuzuru admitting that he has limits and that he feels he’s reached his peak as a competitive skater is such a huge indication of his maturity. “yuzuru hanyu” the persona bears the burden of ambition more than anything — he was never supposed to back down from a challenge, or admit the impossible wasn’t possible. but much of this persona was shaped by his worldview as a young man. the reality is he’s grown up since then, and at the end of his competitive career he can finally be honest about it.

About the Russian invasion - how is everyone feeling there? What can we do to help?
Thank you so much for asking!
A little bit of history: it's actually been 8 years since russia first invaded our country. But for the last years it was getting more and more quiet. And now BOOM again
Many people evacuated from the destroyed by war cities in 2014 and some still live there even though they support Ukraine. It's hard to leave your home. So it's emotionally different for everyone. There was a joke that people from Kyiv worry more than people from Eastern Ukraine. Because they have experienced a similar thing in 2014 and now they're more prepared than ever before.
Personally, I'm panicking from time to time, because, yup, it's stressful. Most people don't really speak about the war and evacuation because it's scary. But I feel like everyone's trying to be prepared for the evacuation or fighting. Every night does feel like a last one, after all.
Since the beginning of the war, our people have been giving money to military charity. One of the most famous military charities is "Return alive" (Povernysya zhivim). Many Ukrainians donate here every month. Here is a link for Facebook page of the charity, let me know if it translates to English or if i should make a post with translation:
There is also a charity that helps military. Yana Zinkevych, a Ukrainian politician and a commander of the Hospitallers Medical Battalion, leads this charity. In 2015 she was paralyzed during a mission and since then she has been using a wheelchair. She has personally saved more than 200 soldiers and she's awesome.
https://www.facebook.com/100020149602229/posts/914756185872693/
In her post here she makes a list of needed ammunition and the needed money.
I tried to write about the charities that Ukrainians trust in. They are famous, they have been trusted by people all these years, so as far as I am concerned, they can be trusted.
Here is a post by @everlasting-burnout who provided more links. They seem trustworthy.
Thank you so much for reading and I encourage to reblog. Just to remind you, I'm trying to tell about Ukrainian situation as objectively and as truthfully as I can

the whole situation is so sick….. i still remember the way evgenia’s face fell when she realized all of alina’s backloading gave her just enough to get ogm and now to hear sasha blame her coach essentially for planning an ogm-worthy program for her teammate but not for her; the kind of paranoia and pressure and toxicity that they must be plagued with everyday, training with each other, i shudder to think about it
also i hate that the media keeps referring to these girls as women’s skaters — they’re literally children

Please, please,
remember that Kamila Valieva is a CHILD. That girl is 15.
The likelihood she had any say in this with who her coaches and federation are is very, very low. Many people caught up in the big doping scandal in the 2010s said they had no clue they were doping. There are reports that athletes get sent these drugs as a packets of powders or capsules and didn't know what they were.
Shes been branded the olympic gold favourite and the greatest of all time, AT 15!!! Thats stressful enough. And now she's lost it and is going to be attacked because of something that likely wasn't in her control.
Blame the adults, eteri tudberidze and team, Russian figure skating federation, the International skating union for letting this go on and infact giving eteri awards. Do not blame the minor.

yuzuru’s coolheaded foresight about figure skating and where it’s headed as a sport has always amazed me — he was the first to say, loudly, that he can’t win without a bunch of quads and skating more than perfect next to nathan. people were doubtful but he was right, and you’ll never catch him complaining about it. i mean back in the day he surpassed patrick with his jumps; leaning into that tech component is a foundational part of yuzuru’s success and legacy. personally, i think i’m done with complaining or feeling bad about possible unfair scoring etc., because the process is always going to be unfair when humans are involved and sometimes it feels like an excuse to bash on skaters merely for doing what they can to win. yuzuru knows better than anyone that the scoring hurdle is a part of the game, but not the most important part, and that’s what matters.
