If I stare for long enough though, they appear in the corners. Shapes and patterns spelling out an imaginary future where you stay forever. We all stay here forever. Time not stopped but stilted. I get to see you grow just a little older.

I usually fall asleep head up, arm aching and dream of a mountain higher than the sun.

I see you begin to fall from the top. A leap of faith into the endless sky. Falling, falling.

Sometimes, a dream ends where you feel further and further as you pass the clouds falling back to earth. Sometimes, a dream ends where you grow wings and fly towards Canis Major. Befriend the great dog. Most times though I turn away. I know I can’t stop you. At least I never try in my dreams. I can’t bear the fear of you leaving. I can’t bear the thought of how I follow.

Either way, even when we get bored of the mountain just know that I tucked my love for you in your back pocket. It shouldn’t fall out. It should follow like a shadow. Always there even when you can’t see it.
