Digital literacy Driven by Youth Power
Are you the one?
Today’s youth live, eat and sleep with technology right from waking up to the bedtime. Thanks to the wonder gadgets and technology advancement. They are more active, interactive on smart phones accessing media whenever they want. A charge of Instant texting to photo sharing, video streaming to social networking are new ways of engaging online led by them.
So are they really called digital literate yet?? Not at all until they start using technology in a responsible way to use, create and share the information or skills for domestic, social and cultural empowerment.
One of the responsibilities for understanding digital literacy is to assist and guide the older citizens who only got access to technology in their mid years of life. They are supposed to be the late adopters of technology whereas younger generations are called the “natives” of digital technology. We see elders struggle or shy away from technology not because they cannot equip themselves digitally but a mind block which has risen out of fear of impatience and rejection from busy lifestyle of younger family members at home. All is needed from these youngsters is to give them reasonable time during leisure hours to sit beside them and hand hold them to learn which is said to be the most effective form of influencing or training others.
apptrainer is a new initiative encouraging digital India to become app smart. In this time of demonetization and moving towards cashless transaction has paved way for digital empowerment of the elders and app trainers personally assist and teach the discouraged and untapped communities how to choose useful apps for their lifestyle and use them effectively.
Why older citizens need to digitally equip themselves?
· Busy lifestyle of younger people in the family to be at their disposal for assistance.
· Save time and effort
· Can access for quick help in emergency situation.
How can Youth Digitally Drive in Elders?
1. Firstly a young trainer needs to understand what is stopping them from using certain technology. What experience they have had before which makes it complicated to use and adapt.
2. A trainer need to get familiar with the elder’s lifestyle and recommend useful techno applications based on a learner’s interest.
3. They also need to spread awareness with the benefits of using a certain technology.
4. Help them overcome apprehension and inhibitions and trust the techno system. Youngsters need to make them aware of online safety, system crash and other small technical issues.
5. Lastly, if you are the youth of today and have enthusiasm towards making India digital, then you can help India get app smart with app**trainer **and at the same time earn part time money by teaching and spreading awareness to people to use apps.
To conclude, Youth are the face of today’s digital India. A little time and enthusiasm to share knowledge is all it needs to be really called a digital literate. You be the one. Register and join army of app trainers and earn @http://www.apptrainer.in/want-to-be-a-trainer/

Word of Mouth – A Powerful Tool for App Promotion
Tell a Story to Impress!
How many times have I downloaded an app just because I saw, heard from friends the coolest way to either shop, communicate, travel or pass time at leisure. My friend sees my makeover display picture on whats app with golden hair gown, catty eyes and wonders for a second whether it’s really me. The comments keep flowing until I disclose it’s a makeover app! Then she downloads the makeover app and then boom! I am unable to recognize her with blue streaky hair, snaky eyes and eventually whole lot of all my contact list’s display pictures going insane with this app. That’s the power of word of mouth impressed upon people which spreads like a wild fire.
With so many apps mushrooming in the app store, every app wants to catch the eye of the user with helpful reviews helping the user .So again word of mouth plays an important role for a user to choose and use apps wisely. It is very interesting to find in our internal research that majority of the app discovery happens through references. A user gets influenced to install and use a new app primarily through friends and family recommendations and stories about their experience with the particular app. The rest of promotion platforms like play store, search engines & offline media fall only after this direct word of mouth.
‘People’ love to spread the word
A human, being social animal love to be heard talked about and reciprocated with desired actions. Thanks to social media for creating a platform for the same. They are not isolated but live with interactive emotions, experiences and shared knowledge. Impressing a story on the user can lead to trustworthy information flow to the masses, sentimental trigger which can make the news go insanely viral, makes it unbiased opinion. This blind folded trust can go into clusters of users and information can explode triggering instant actions and reactions. That is how word of mouth can create wild fire spreading like crazy.
Whats app makes a solid example that proves our saying to be correct. It happened to be that whats app attributed its success to word of mouth marketing, when it reached the milestone of 400 million monthly active users in recent times. No wonder people were overwhelmed with the amount of ease with which they were able to utilize this messaging app and stay connected, that eventually instigated them to refer the app to more and more people.
According to Nielsen research, 92 percent of people trust recommendations from friends and family more than all other forms of marketing.
Approximately 77% of consumers are more likely to download and use an app when learning about it from friends or family.
So finally how does an app developer change the rules of the game?
· Get hooked on to social media network with user interaction and reviews. An app has to build a relationship between the brand and the user.
· Incentive referral is an attractive way to jump start generating more leads.
· Contextually disruptive yet keeping the core values of the app through guerilla marketing can make the promo go viral. There should be element of surprise, target oriented and relevant.
To conclude buzz builds business better. apptrainer as a new initiative offers app awareness and personalized app training to smart phone users across India .It can be a simple recommendation, storytelling to gossip or rumor!!But everything triggers the emotion and sentiment of an individual to various degrees of heights ultimately into some action. With the army of app trainers spreading word of mouth I can confidently say that grapevines do not always have to sour but soar high taking the app image as well as revenue to scale up tremendously at very less time.

DIGITAL INDIA…. Another OPERATION FLOOD?
Remember OPERATION FLOOD? It was the program that powered the “White Revolution” of the 1970’s. The goal of this Revolution was to achieve self-sufficiency in milk production within India.
Not only was this the largest operation that the world had ever seen in the area of dairy development, it also morphed the chronic shortage of milk into abundance, making available twice the recommended quantity for everyday consumption by each and every person. Besides, it showcased dairy farming as a sustainable commercial operation that created more jobs.
The success of Operation Flood which was driven relentlessly by Dr. Kurien reinforced that an idea becomes implementable when its time has come. It calls for a will to surmount all odds, and a constant everyday push to take the idea one step closer to the ultimate vision. Once the concept gains momentum, the movement grows quickly and takes everyone along with it.
Something similar is being witnessed today in the case of DIGITAL INDIA, a movement initiated by the Government to reach most of its services to the common man directly through the electronic mode. This will be achieved both by strengthening the infrastructure and by improving net connectivity to the extent that every individual is empowered digitally in one form or the other. Mobile telephony, internet through mobile phones and popularizing the use of Apps
The timing is appropriate as well: India gave a bye to the pager and invented the ‘missed call’ on the mobile. Before the local languages could be built in, English became the medium for a local conversation! By the time smart phones made an explosive entry, e-commerce and other convenient services had become popular, thanks to the internet. DIGITAL INDIA came into being just as the common man’s comfort level with the hand phone peaked.
On their part, mobile service operators have had to accept the inevitability of making it a numbers game rather than choosing to serve a niche clientele. They have been innovating upon their offers to try and include more new users every day. App developers too have been introducing exciting applications constantly.
It is interesting to see how quickly the Indian population adapts to a digital India. Will it require a helping hand to chart unfamiliar territory?
Can apptrainer help this movement reach the intensity of a Revolution?
