ayyy honestly this month wasn’t great, but it’s been getting better. i’m kind of sad it hasn’t been going great because last june was so good (or am i romanticizing the past?!) but alas. i’ve been procrastinating a lot (it’s not my fault that hundred line actually has a fandom that actively produces fanworks on a daily basis) but i still don’t really feel well rested? i’m not too sure what to do. i’ve also had a lot of fun connecting with some old friends by meeting up during the summer, i sort of realized that we’re all so busy that if i don’t schedule something now, we might just not meet again- and that would just be sad. i’ve also had a lot of fun experiencing nature and buying lots of desserts lmao. i also realized i’m super paranoid (well, i sort of already knew but), and for a long time i thought it was i who had to change my perspective, that there was nothing others could do for me. but… i guess i am wrong. maybe others trying to accomodate would be alright, actually? and i also learned that… there’s not much point in lying, is there.

---nephrite of deshret - hoyo-mix erm… yes i started playing genshin again because i love albedo and mondstadt. and that means listening to the music. i was not expecting candace’s to slap so hard. and it’s super short so it’s easy to loop. i really appreciate the triplets, it makes the melody feel like it’s speeding up, picking up, i’m not sure how to describe it. picking up into the next phrase super smoothly. also i think the song’s emphasis on two big beats (idk if it’s compound or simple duple but i LOVE IT)

---loveit - biz, ZERA, LOLUET because of zeno daily life…. i got back into zeno. i think it was right after finals week because my god i relapsed harder than tsugino after being bitten by ushirono. tbh i didn’t love this song before but as i was scrambling for zeno content i, of course, had to watch THE zeno love it animatic, and i sort of fell in love. the “ahaha”s and well… it’s a very tsugino song and i love tsugino. the singer also has a very specific tone inflection i love in like “lovely puppet” and “love it? lali”. i really want to get into the story behind the song but brother i am confused lmao. anyways i also love the jubyphonic cover she does a really good job with the creepiness and such.

---merry bad end - mafumafu uh yes… i did check this out because of that one eitaku animatic on youtube. sorry. anyways, i always wanted to like this song because “merry bad end” is a sick title and mafumafu is awesome but i never got into it? also i found out “merry bad end” is an actual term used to describe bad endings where the characters are happy. that is so awesome. also this song does a lot of that double clap single clap jpop thing which i love. 

---angel with a shotgun - the cab so i met up with my friend from middle school and we reminiscenced about old gacha songs…. yeah, this is a classic. the premise of the song, contrasting something pure like an angel with dark things like guns and wars is awesome. my favorite part is definitely the outro, the “if love is what you need, a soldier i will be”. they do a slight variation to the melody, and it sounds so sweet. also i thought it was “i’ll throw away my fake faith” not “i’ll throw away my faith, babe” wtf. 

---life - milgram jesus christ this song is insane, probably my favorite yuno song? i was worried that the rap sections (which make up the majority of the song) would get boring after a while, but i feel like it works super well here. the chorus itself is devastating, and i especially like how it goes into the interlude. i also really appreciate the yorushika vibes (maybe i’m delusional). i predicted that this song would be on the chiller side- and i was right!!! i have to give props to the animation team, her expressions are absolutely brutal, and i love how all the… well, not gore, but the fetus and stuff are such a dark, horrific contrast. 

---third eye blind, green green - kurage-p the more i listen to kurage-p the more i think all his songs sound the same but that’s okay because that just means ALL HIS SONGS SLAP.

---deep sea city underground - tanaka B kind of sounds… tokyo teddy bear like. and well, i love tokyo teddy bear, so no complaints 

---otsukare summer - halcali  i… have no idea why this song blew up on tiktok but i was very attracted to the sad and sort of defeated tone of the singer. yeah, the post-chorus is great and all “it’s no big deal, i’m not hurt/going to cry” but like the rest of the song is so… melancholic yet upbeat? i feel like it conveys summer so well, and if there’s anything i like it’s songs about summer. “the girl with a faint dream is crying in secret”. i also highly appreciate the brass and percussion, it really elevates the the vibes.

---heat abnormal - iyowa  again, i’m sorry, i literally started listening to this again because of this one eito fanart i saw. honestly iyowa has a very interesting style (mixing and tuning) and while it doesn’t always hit for me, i’m a huge fan of the vibes in general. honestly i’m super confused on what heat abnormal is about (outside of… the world ending/global warming sort of thing) but the lyrics are immaculate and the chorus is actually insane, jumping octaves goes crazy. i'm also really surprised this song is so popular because it's just so quirky lmao

This month has honestly been so much testing it’s been ridiculous. Ap tests the first two weeks, then my makeup Ap exam the week after, and then finals (which i just finished yesterday). I think I’ve definitely become more reclusive from other people, I don’t really want to talk to them. I do feel kind of bad for snapping at them/being cold but I genuinely can't do anything else and it's better than the alternative which is blowing up. I’ve started to dread going to lunch because I don’t want to talk to people, but it always turns out better than I expect, so idk what's up with that. I also went to prom and it was kind of meh, way too expensive for limited activities. Though, I personally think the experience is important so I’ll go anyways. Anyways I’m so excited for summer, last summer was so nostalgic, and I need some time alone (there’s nothing wrong with them, honestly I think there’s something wrong with me, but I just can’t talk with others anymore)

---Community Gardens - The Scary Jokes, Louie Zong  So I was first recommended this song back in like 2020 because the opening bit “full disclosure, I am a monster, a creature of despair” was really popular. I listened to the whole thing and didn’t particularly care for it. Fast forward to now I was rewatching milgram animatics on youtube because I miss milgram. Then that one shidou community gardens animatic shows up, and when watching it I FELT this song in my soul. I really love this indie vibe, it reminds me of penelope scott to be honest. My favorite part is “there's no more community gardens / so I guess I'll have to settle for you”. That quiet resignation, with the voice trailing off. It reminds me of the outro of Born2Run. Also the guitar is so… the word isn’t nasally, but something like that. My guitar terminology is severely lacking, but it feels so overwhelming (in a good way).

--- I/Me/Myself - Will Wood I was searching up some 2020 nostalgia playlist, and this popped up! I’ve always heard of this guy, but never really listened to him before. He pleasantly reminds me of lemon demon and other indie bands. His lyrics about gender and stuff are so interesting and somehow relatable?? I don’t know how to put it, but trust the lyrics are great. Am I pretty enough to love back? No, not yet… I see why he was popular during 2020 lmao. Anyways it’s incredibly catchy, awesome saxophone and piano, I really love the descending portion of the chord progression. 

--- Anti-You - Chinozo    God bless spotify’s random song adding into playlists feature, this song is so good. There’s so many distinct sections, the mama mia, the chorus, instrumental break, etc. They all sound super distinct/different, I’m surprised Chinozo made it work, but it WORKS so WELL. I was really surprised to find out this was a pjsk commission, like god damn. Also the inclusion of english words into some of the lyrics makes it really catchy, and helps it rhyme so well. 

--- Adventure Is Out There - AJR  Math teacher told me this was his favorite AJR song. It’s quite good. It reminds me to go outside which tbh i struggle with. Whenever I feel hopeless, I’d like this song to be a reminder to tell me to go outside and experience this world that I barely know anything about. “A house where I can’t show my face” has a really interesting chord progression, go look into that. I think they change chords every 2 or 4 beats, but this one changes every beat and sort of speeds it up, I like. 

--- MeltyLandNightmare - Harumakigohan So when I got into empurple last summer, I really tried to get into this too because it’s like… THE harumakigohan song, but I just couldn’t. Well I suddenly had the urge to listen to it for some reason, and I love it now. I have no idea what it’s about but the visuals are so cute, I love the aesthetic, “welcome to the melty land” is so good. His tuning is also so distinctive, I love the style.

--- They Might As Well Be Dead, ...con lentitud poderosa, Coalescence - Chris Christodoulou Listen I don’t even go here but this guy is an amazing composer. I know I just listed like all his most popular tracks (sorry I’m basic, but I guess they are popular for a good reason, right). So my friend first told me to listen to these for a school project, they were alr but I didn’t get to really listen to them because we were outside. Then con lentitud poderosa shows up in my Youtube fyp at home, I believe, and I listen to it again and it’s beautiful. The buildup is slow but not boring, and it pays off so well when the beat drops and that lead guitar comes in. Jesus that guitar, the melody is so heart wrenching, it doesn’t get old because I believe it’s through composed. I can only imagine what it feels like to hear this for the first time when you’re on the moon. It realy fits its title, “with powerful slowness”. It’s slow but every beat feels so heavy and intentional. And the soft outro with echos of the beginning ideas. Honestly I wonder if this track loops (I think it does) because I feel like it loses a bit of power if you reach the build up again, or several times after that. also I think coalescence is connected with the rain formely known as purple, but I swear it’s also connected to this track. Same motif brother same motif. 

I checked out Coalescence because it’s one of his most popular, and well… #yumakokohead or something. It’s pretty good, I was surprised to hear straight up alberti bass lmao. The melody sort of repeats but with different instruments which works super well. This guy really likes his synths and man it works super well. Oh yeah also I really love the drumset because honestly I haven’t listened to a lot of video game music with drums, so I was surprised to see how well it worked with purely instrumental tracks. I think it makes a huge difference, especially in this one. 

Okay last but certainly not least, they might as well be dead. I’m kinda getting too lazy to write out all my thoughts but this is probably my favorite one. First of all, the title immediately drew me in because they might as well be dead is a sick ass title. Like wow what do you mean it’s from a beatles song titled “rain”. I love his references so much he’s so good at naming tracks (I’m so used to like witch’s heart free music file track names, this was such a breath of fresh air). Okay then we start the song and there’s bongos. I noticed this guy does a lot of slow build ups, yet they’re all still really engaging. Did I mention there’s an awesome musescore transcription online that person is awesome. Anyways we get to the like the repetitive arpeggio section, and you know this shit is about to have the most awesome beat drop. The main motif is simple but amazing, the dotted eighth note is constantly emphasized but it doesn’t feel too heavy and doesn’t make the piece drag (which I find really annoying to listen to). Once he repeats it like 3 times he ends it and it seamlessly blends into the next segment. When he repeats the motif at a higher interval it doesn’t get old, it feels like he’s building up more. And then it falls into the triplets which really breaks the flow we’ve had from the dotted eighth notes, transitioning to the same motif as before but with higher intensity. Anyways I really need to finish watching his composer comments because it’s all super interesting.

While I don’t think Cirno’s perfect math academy is going to change my life like help me erin did, I still love the song and the remix.

I think this month started out really well, but then it really started going down hill. Aps and such, I want to die. I’ve realized that all I’ve been thinking about lately are the sad and unhappy things in my life. I really want to just do things I enjoy rather than mope over myself. But it’s easier to say than to do, y’know? Anyways, here’s to hoping things will change. I’m hoping that I can stop obsessing over people, I’m hoping I can let things go. Now that I’m writing this… I sort of realize I say this like every other month. JESUS THIS MONTH WAS INSANE. A few things that happened: my competition group went to our state comp! We did pretty well for a team of complete newbies, and I won 1st in music :D! the party afterwards was really fun and I enjoyed getting to know my teammates (they’re all so quirky). I was sad abt my shitty sat score lmao. I had many art performances (on the same day as well???). I got into saihate station (I love tatsunami so much. He’s so relatable). I might have a crush, but i think it's more of an obsession. I’ve been obsessing over people too much lately, and it really affects my mood. My coach is treating me pretty badly, and though I’ve always thought “i want these days to last forever”, I’m starting to think it might be ok to let some things end. for that sport, it’s terrible seeing how things have turned out this way- especially when freshman me could love nothing else but it.

AHHHHH I suppose kairiki bear does deserve some of the hype he gets. He is really good. I love the little “my love!” And “I love!”. Using all the Pokemon moves in the lyrics is so cool and creates really cool particular diction. And well, I love songs about obsessive love lmao. The “suki de suki de” is so catchy too… The whole song feels fast- almost rushed. Falling too quickly into love… spiraling into obsession.

---Monitoring, Zombie, Telepathy - Deco*27 

When I first listened to monitoring, I thought it was honestly better than most of the recent deco releases- I could tell from the beginning it was “different” (no, this is not hindsight bias). And yeah, it blew up! I’m going to say it deserves it- it’s a pretty cool concept executed well, especially with the art style and all. Personally, it’s helping me cope. Seeing shion and ashe versions of it didn’t help lmao. I really like the “dissected heart” and the “XXX”-ing idea. I think the story might be that miku is normal, and the “speaker” is the one who’s out of their mind- which is pretty cool. Seeing it distort between normal/obsessed miku is awesome. 

Zombie is AWESOME. I really want mahiru to get a cover of it- it fits WAY too well lyrically. The bassline speaks to me, it’s so funky. The little “wa-ha!” Is so silly too. Though I really hate the giga remix, sorry.

Telepathy is honestly not that good of a song, but it’s one of the stronger recent deco releases. I think it blew up because it’s funny (I don’t particularly care for the humor), I just really like the chorus- it’s too catchy!? Especially when it drops down a half step or something.

I AM STILL INSANELY BUSY but... few things have happened this month: i studied very hard for and did pretty well in a team county competition (boosted self esteem! let's go!), now we're preparing for state competition, was incredibly burned out after that (fell into depressive slump.... return of anxiety and i felt sleepy/tired ALL the time it was kind of concerning) but felt better after hanging out with friends (turns out if you talk w/ppl and have fun life feels good), i dislike that my cousin has such a huge ego, may or may not have a crush (hopefully it will turn out better than last time), got back into milgram!!! yeah... that sounds about right.

---weiward romance, rawdog - flavor foley I GENUINELY LOVE FLAVOR FOLEY SO MUCH. I love their tuning style (it's SO clear. I've never heard such clarity on english vocaloids before.
